DAVAO City -- An incentivebased environmental program in Mindanao was featured as having one of the best practices for reducing emissions at a recently concluded international forum in Hanoi, Vietnam.

At the ASIA LEDS Forum 2016, a premier gathering of policymakers, donors, practitioners, and other experts involved in promoting Low Emission Development Strategies (LEDS) and climate-resilient development in Asia, the Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) in Mindanao was featured as a mechanism designed to maintain environmental integrity in the island-region.

HE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) set aside a total of P563.6 million in emergency loan for its active members and old-age pensioners in nine more areas in Mindanao that were affected by El Niño.

Eligible to apply for the loan until July 31, 2016 are qualified members and

pensioners in Iligan City in Lanao del Norte; Claveria in Misamis Oriental; Tudela and Bonifacio in Misamis O c c i d e nt a l ; Ka b a s a l an and Alicia in Zamboanga Sibugay; and Guipos and Kumalarang in Zamboanga del Sur. Those in El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental may avail of the loan until August 9, 2016.

A total of 17,597 active members are eligible to apply if they are working or residing in the calamitydeclared areas, are not on leave of absence without pay, and have no arrears in paying premium contributions in the last six months.

First-time borrowers may apply for a P20,000 emergency loan. Those who

have an existing emergency loan are entitled to P40,000, from which their outstanding loan balance will be deducted.

A total of 2,731 oldage pensioners residing in the said areas may borrow P20,000. If they are also active members for having been reemployed in the government service, they may borrow only once.

A notable presence today will be former President and now Pampanga Representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. Forced by circumstances to be absent during at least three sessions, she will not miss today’s opening of Congress for anything.

Why many do not hit the mark in launching a business

Made for Pleasure Think a minute…Sex was God’s idea. God created sex in marriage for pleasure.

The problem is that we have misused and twisted God’s plan for sex. We ruin this beautiful gift from God by using sex wrongly. So we actually hurt ourselves with wrong kinds of sex that were never intended for us. Sex is like our other appetites. Just like our appetite for food is to keep our body strong and healthy, sex has 2 main purposes: for PLEASURE and PROCREATION or having children. So we must use our sex drive in the right way for it to work best for us.

The only way sex can be fully enjoyed is in marriage.

It’s not lust and desire for anybody we want, so we can just use them to make us feel good for the moment. God designed us so that sex we have with anyone who is not our wife or husband is not pleasure that will keep satisfying us for a lifetime, because it’s not a permanent, secure relationship. What’s more, sex with others you do not know well is extremely dangerous because of AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases. Remember, you’re not only having sex with that one person, but you’re having sex with every other person they have ever had sex with!

If the inauguration of President Rody Duterte were any indication, the State of the Nation Address scheduled this afternoon will be a SONA like no other.

The usual glitter (translation: fashion show) will not be there. President Rody has signalled often enough that he wants it simple. Business att ire will do. The traditional formalities will not be there.

No need for the greetings of “His Excellency” and “Honorable” (for other public functionaries).

Just guessing. But the usual rallies might not even be there. After all, the militants already have direct access to the President.

I surmise that the address itself to both houses of Congresss, and the Filipino people, will be short and sweet. Just like his inaugural.

At its core will be the direction we are headed and how President Rody proposes to get us there.

If there is one main message that President Rody may want to focus on, then it should be an urgent call to amend the constitution via a constitutional convention.

And it should be now.

A cornerstone of his campaign – Federalism – can only be done via charter change. Morever, a review of economic provisions which are perceived to have hindered our national

In their time, people said humans will never fly because the idea was outside the box of their reality in that era. But that idea was not outside the realm of probability in the minds of the Wrights, so they soared.

In business, the analogy is the same: many people think that success is so elusive that upon pondering t he hig h prob abi lity of failure, they give up. This is

true especially if they come across stories of failures and what happens to most newbies. Only those who t hin k t he opp osite c an succeed.

Let us then compare how the losers and winners think. Their realities are defined by what they think is smart and what they think is uncertain. They are opposites: losers consider job security is smart, while bui lding business es is risky. Thos e w ho make no great shakes consider having a big house a bright move; on the other hand, business achievers rather build apartment houses b ecaus e for them a big house is risky. Brilliant entrepreneurs do not opt for m e re s av i ng s ; t h e y rather invest. Acers are generous while the tryinghards impugn the guilt of greed upon the rich.

The reason why many employees do not venture out in business: business is risky. This contradicts t he r ich p ers on’s v ie w : having a secure job is the one that is truly risky. I see the point: even in the US, someone who earns $80,000 annually will eventually retire with a minimum of $1,000 retirement pension a month.

An ordinary employee c an n ot s e e t h e r i s k i n ow ning a big hous e. If his lifestyle cannot match that property, he ends up broke with the bills payable and eventually mortgages t he prop er t y. The w is e entrepreneur thinks an apartment is better because it generates regular rentals and focuses on investment rather than liabilities.

Robert Kiyosaki, a best-seller entrepreneurauthor, recalls the kind of savings his poor dad focuses on: going around supermarkets to find sales promo and buy pork butts that can be consumed for s i x m ont hs ! Kiyo s a k i’s r i ch d a d ( t he one w ho mentored him to become a good entrepreneur) exemplifies the opposite: he goes around looking for bonds or stocks to invest or new business to build.

Maybe a hindrance to winning is a sweeping judgment that the rich are close-fisted or exploiters.

Not really true all the time.

Ho w a b o u t B i l l G a t e s who built a foundation to i mprove t he qu a l it y of life of mankind? How about Mark Zuckerberg who just said he only needs to keep ten percent of his wealth and give 90 percent

Losers are average at best: they avoid losing and expect to win 100 percent of the time. Whereas, winners t a ke losing as t he p at h to winning. For instance, if they have $200,000 to spare, they allot $20,000 to play the market with.

But this amount goes to several trades where they have enough money to lose 19 out of 20 times. So even if t he y los e $14,000 on fourteen straight trades, they can suddenly make $50,000 on the next market move.

Improv i n g m i n d s e t s cannot come from mere educational pursuits. One needs to follow the paths of exemplars while embrace losing as an ingredient in his resume.

LOBE Telecom calls on Akamai to include the mobile internet results for the Philippines in its quarterly State of the Internet (SOI) report in reaction to the 1st Quarter results released recently where the country’s internet performance was once again benchmarked using fixed broadband internet.

Yoly Crisanto, Globe SVP for Corporate Communications said that similar to other countries, Akamai should include the PH in its report on mobile internet to provide the public with a complete picture on the country’s true state of internet speed. “By using the average speed for fixed broadband to represent the internet speed for the whole country is erroneous. It is not reflective of the true state of internet considering that majority of Filipinos are using mobile data to access the internet. In comparison with other countries, this will again put the Philippines in bad light and will be used as reference in many studies and reports,” Crisanto said.

In the latest SOI report of Akamai, the average internet speed in the Philippines for fixed broadband increased by 24% from 2.8Mbps in Q1 of 2015 to 3.5Mbps in Q1 of 2016. The peak speed also increased by 47% year on year from 20.3Mbps in Q1 2015 to 29.9Mbps this quarter. Due to a history of underinvestment in the area of fixed broadband, the telco industry is trying to catch up by addressing the huge infrastructure gaps in contrast with its Asian neighbors.

Crisanto added that the Akamai report is being used as reference by government agencies, media and special interest groups in creating their position on issues that affect the industry.

“Akamai must now realize the importance of their SOI report so they should prioritize the inclusion of the Philippines’ mobile internet in the next report,” Crisanto stressed.

Collateral-free loan available for SMEs PHILEXPORT: SME-friendly reforms to boost exports Small and medium enterprises (SME) exporters located in Metro Manila needing financing to expand their businesses can now avail of collateral-free loan.

The Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PHILEXPORT) recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with First Circle Growth Finance Inc. that would allow the finance company to provide short-term financing to P H I L E X P O RT a n d i t s members.

The finance firm offers

business growth finance from Php100,000 to Php500,000 bearing an interest rate of 3 percent per month. The loan term length is up to three months.

It also provides accounts receivable financing.

Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr., PHILEXPORT president, welcomes this partnership to help facilitate financing options for its members who may avail of special privileges.

Exporters are optimistic the new administration’s adoption of more micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs)-friendly reforms can enable the sector post mo dest growth despite sluggish global economy.

Philippine Exporters Confederation Inc. (PHILEXPORT) President Sergio R. Ortiz-Luis Jr. hoped that some pronouncements of President Rodrigo Duterte, particularly on streamlining business procedures and promoting transparency, can boost the growth of the export sector.

Jollibee to expand in Europe next year

OMEGROWN food giant Jollibee Foods C o r p. ( J F C ) i s looking to expand into new territories in Europe next year, as it embarks on an aggressive expansion both locally and internationally in a bid to increase sales from the overseas business over the next seven years.

“There are some markets (abroad that there are) OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) so we are also looking into that. We are thinking of getting into Italy probably not this year. It can be next year,” JFC chairman and chief executive officer Tony Tan Caktiong told reporters after the company’s stockholder’s meeting on Friday.

STEELASIA Manufacturing, Corp. is investing over half a billion dollars on expansion plans over the next four years as the company aims to reduce its dependence on imported plates and wire rods.

C omp a ny P re s i d e nt Benjamin O. Yao said at a media briefing held in the Dusit Thani Manila Hotel that $600 million has been allocated for its expansion in different regions of the country. The bullish investment comes as the company tries to address the industry’s lagging behind the country’s neighbors, as well as the need to seek new areas of development.

It’s also going to downstream from the wire rods. Now it’s something imported 100%.

It’s a question of how come nobody is doing it,” he said, referring to how there are no local suppliers for the steel product.

(PSC) intends to open 185 more 7-Eleven convenience stores in Mindanao within two years, with the new administration’s focus on developing the countryside expected to support the planned expansion.

The local licensee of the 7-Eleven chain has already opened 65 outlets in Mindanao since entering the territory in the latter part of last year, its President and Chief Executive Officer Victor C. Paterno told reporters during a briefing in Quezon City on Thursday.

“From the 3,015 job applicants and with some 8,840 vacancies for both local and overseas, 946 applicants were Hired-On-The-Spot,” Valmores said.

A graduate of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Northern Bukidnon Community College, Asok was hired as a Trainee to be a Marketing Agent at ToyotaCagayan de Oro. “I am so overwhelmed to being accepted right away, being my first time to join a Job Fair activity. I feel so happy, that despite being a fresh graduate and no working experience yet, I was able to land job. I am grateful to this Job Fair. The Science behind Booming Cakeboom: Bukidnon’s Best Delicacy Producer CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The province of Bukidnon is considered to be the food basket of Mindanao. It is the major producer of rice, corn, bananas, sugarcane and pineapple. Almost all large corporate firms operating in the province are into production or processing of these agricultural products.

Richard and Golda Lim of Malaybalay City were employees of the one of the famous firm operating in the province. They left to start a business of their own. They started as sidewalk vendors of Filipino delicacies and cakes and distributed their products to some food outlets. They got a big break when they won the Malaybalay City Best Delicacy contest in 2008 for their Piñasitas, a pastry with pineapple

filling.

The product won again in the province wide contest of Bukidnon Best Delicacy in 2008.

Piñasitas gained attention not only in the region but in other parts of the Philippines as well through local and regional fairs. It is even made as pasalubong by Filipinos going abroad.

As their company Cakeboom and Party Flavors grew, the owner’s objective shifted from simple livelihood to helping its workers sustain their source of income and employment.

In 2009, Cakeboom developed a new line of healthy pasalubong products that would meet consumer demand for healthy and nutritious foods.

Piñakasi was named from Piña as Visayan term for pineapple and kasi is an acronym

for KalamunggaySquash. With growing recognition consumer demand for Piñasitas and Piñakasi was continually increasing but the company could only provide a limited volume to some of its customers.

To maintain the quality of its products and cope up with the increasing demand, the couple sought DOST’s intervention in 2012 through the upgrading of their production equipment such as cooker mixers and continuous band sealer for packaging.

Food safety handling protocol training was also undertaken as intervention for the firm’s staff and employees side from the owner.

In Cagayan de Oro, SteelAsia’s facility will produce steel section materials and plates which are also currently imported and used for different purposes such as shipbuilding and truck assembly.

The has six operational facilities spread across the country: two in Bulacan, and one each in Batangas, Cebu, Davao City, and Misamis Oriental. It is currently in talks with foreign companies planning to enter strategic partnerships in line with the planned expansions.

Within the past decade, SteelAsia has been dispersing its operations outside of Metro Manila. Its mill in Davao is the country’s largest and most modern.

To date, the listed company has 1,760 stores across the Philippines, mostly within the National Capital Region.

“We’re opening about a store a day -- a little over a store a day -- this year. Last year was almost a store a day, 337, most of them 330 were in Luzon, 76 stores in the Visayas and entered Mindanao for the first time through Davao and CDO,” Mr. Paterno said.

PSC is looking to expand its store network to 2,000 by the yearend. The company intends to add 250 stores during the second half in addition to the 148 stores launched from January to June.

“We want to increase the number of franchisees -- well, we are determined to grow the stores regardless if we find franchisees [or] not,” Mr. Paterno said, noting the company targets to operate 90% of the outlets under a franchising arrangement.

LOWER FRANCHISE PACKAGE As part of a strategy to increase its franchise business, PSC will pilot a program requiring an investment lower than the usual P3.5 million. Mr. Paterno said the company will still have to finalize the package that will require an investment of “well under P1 million.”

“The idea is to be able to widen the pool of applicants.

In the Philippines, the people with money don’t really want to work, the people willing to work don’t always have the money, so we have the money... We can attract people who are really willing to operate a store,” Mr. Paterno noted.

PSC has allocated P3.5 billion for capital expenditures this year to support its “accelerated” store expansion strategy, higher than the P3 billion invested in 2015.

The company netted P472.3 million during the first six months of the year, a 32.5% increase from the P356.5 million recorded a year earlier. It earned P290 million during the second quarter alone, following a 31.6% rise in system-wide sales to P8.11 billion.

“We are [32%] up versus last year, so if the trend continues we can reach P1.3 billion, probably less,” Mr. Paterno said, while noting the company does not give profit guidance as a policy.

The sheriff of this Honorable Court is hereby ordered to post copies of this Notice in three (3) conspicuous places, preferably in the Bulletin Board of this Court, the City Hall of Tangub City, and the Barangay Hall of Calaparan, Tangub City, Mis. Occ. Moreover, let a copy of this petition and notice be published once a week for three (3) consecutive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in the province of Misamis Occidental, all at the expense of the petitioner, for the information and guidance of all concerned.

Also, let a copy of this petition and notice be furnished the petitioner, the Office of the Solicitor General, and the Local Civil Registrar of Tangub City. Any person having or claiming any interest under the entry whose correction is sought may, within fifteen (15) days from notice of this petition, or from the last date of publication of such notice, file his opposition thereto.
