Briefly Power projects THE Department of Energy (DoE) said it has certified 149 energy projects of national significance (EPNS) to date, with the approved projects involving investment of P795.52 billion. An EPNS designation for major projects covering power generation, transmission or ancillary services entitles the proponent to expedited permits, having been deemed in line with the DoE’s objectives as set out in the Philippine Energy Plan. “Out of 399 received applications, 149 were certified as CEPNS while 35 applications are still under evaluation,” the DoE said on its website, citing developments as of Jan. 20.

Mining freeze PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte has ordered the suspension of all mining on an island in Tawi-Tawi, within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, a cabinet official said Tuesday. The President issued the order following reports that Tumbagaan Island in Lunguyan, Tawi-Tawi has been “completely devastated as a result of mining operations,” Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei B. Nograles said at a televised briefing. He said Mr. Duterte brought up the state of mining on the island, a source of nickel, during a Cabinet meeting on Monday night in Malacañang.

L A V E R I A , Misamis Oriental -- A Provincial Agriculture Development Complex in Barangay Ani-e here has been launched, January 22 to serve as a processing center of various agricultural products. The seven-hectare facility was acquired by the provincial government through a Deed of Grant of Usufructuary Rights from the Philip Morris Fortune Tobacco Corporation (PMFTC), Inc., which then served as tobacco plantation facility of the said company. As the facilities are now under the management of the provincial government of Misamis Oriental, it will now be used to process various agricultural products and this would help address th post-harvest loss and the value-adding needs of LAUNCHES/PAGE 11

Villar's plastics recycling plant serving schools all over Mindanao By MARK FRANCISCO

MORE than 2,000 classroom chairs made out of recycled plastic have been donated by the Villar Social Institute

for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG) in schools all over Mindanao. Since 2017, Villar SIPAG
