Oro water THE water supply in the city’s western district was back to normal, the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) here said on Tuesday. The water supply in most part of the city’s western district was cut off on Sunday at the height of tropical depression “Agaton” when the district’s major water bulk supplier went into preventive maintenance. Lydelle Salgado, the COWD spokesperson, said that the Rio Verde, water consortium that supply bulk water to COWD, announced the preventive maintenance as flood water swell in Kabula River, the main source of Rio Verde. She said the normal supply of water was restored Monday night in Barangay Carmen to Opol, Misamis Oriental and in the barangays of Bonbon, Bayabas, Kauswagan, Lumbia, Balulang, Canitoan and the “elevated portions” and multistory buildings here.
E-payment THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) introduces the electronic payment (e-payment) facility for business name registrations, to make it easier for entrepreneurs to start a business in the Philippines. “In assuring entrepreneurs of an enabling business environment, the government is gathering institutions and partners from the private sector to work on key reform areas in line with President Aquino’s policy thrust anchored on good governance and transparency,” DTI Secretary Gregory L. Domingo said in a statement. “The e-payment facility for business name registration is one of the projects that the DTI is implementing to simplify the process of dealing with the government as entrepreneurs start and run their businesses,” Domingo added. Domingo said that the DTI’s goal is to make the Philippines a favorable environment for both foreign and local businesses to flourish.

GROUP of electricity consumers in Mindanao is taking the cudgel to question the legitimacy of the Interim Mindanao Electricity Market (IMEM) before the high court.
“ We a r e p r e p a r i n g the appropriate legal charges to be filed at the Supreme C our t against the Philippine Electricity Market Corporation and the Department of Energy,” said Engr. David A. Tauli, president of the Mindanao Coalition of Power Consumers (MCPC). “Distribution utilities in Mindanao are not only being charged in excess of approved generation rates, they are also being charged for power supply that was not delivered.” In a letter to PEMC, a local utility said it has not

nominated or purchased any energy from IMEM and was protesting and rejecting the billing statement pending ratification from PEMC. Tauli said the power bills sent by the PEMC to the ECs makes it clear what the MCPC and others have been saying all along that: (1) the IMEM is pernicious to Mindanao power consumers (because the PEMC is making the consumers pa rates three times greater than ERC-
approved generation rates, for energy which wasn’t supplied or used); and (2) the IMEM cannot attain the purposes for which it was designed by the DOE, which is to enable embedded generators to supply power to the Grid in period of power shortages (none of the embedded generators injected power supply to the Grid during the November-December billing period). imem/PAGE 7
