Briefly BBL draft ZAMBOANGA City -- The House of Representatives’ version of the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is now submitted and being deliberated in the joint congressional committees. This after the sub-committee meetings were conducted last week and it was presented as an urgent priority of the Committee on Local Government and Peace, Reconciliation and Unity to come up with the “draft bill,” which will be tackled for public consultation and finalization in the House plenary in due time. Rep. Celso Lobregat of this city’s first district on Wednesday said the BBL Sub-Committee, in which he was one of the three members, took the lead to harmonize its provisions as they had already discussed it provision by provision and “agreed to disagree” the constitutionality and partiality of it and taking into consideration the unconstitutional provisions, which needed to be discussed thoroughly.

Remittance centers SMALL Business (SB) Corp., the financing arm of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), wants to partner with more remittance centers in the country as it rolls out the Pondo sa Pagbabago at Pag-asenso or P3 Program in Marawi City. SB Corp. President and Chief Executive Officer Ma. Luna Cacanando said in a phone interview Tuesday that the government was open to partner with more remittance centers who would release the loans and would receive the payments from the borrowers. Cacanando said SB Corp. started this mechanism last December with its partnership with Cebuana Lhuillier. She said around P2.3 million was released in Marawi City to some 300 borrowers.

HE Phi lippine and Turkish governments have discussed a possible partnership to support the rehabilitation in Marawi City.

The discussion took place during the first Joint Committee on Trade, Economic, and Technical Cooperation (JCTEC) between the Philippines and Turkey in Ankara, Turkey. The JTEC meet was from Feb. 5 to 6. In a statement Wednesday, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said Turkey could assist the Philippines in efforts to revive the former war zone Marawi, as the majority of the population of Turkey are Muslims. Turkey can provide assistance on rolling out Islamic financing for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) affected by the clashes between government troops and terror group Maute.
