BUTUAN City -- Amidst the increase of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices, the Department of Energy (DOE) assured that it is closely monitoring the local LPG market to make sure that only reasonably priced LPG products are being sold to consumers. “Our Oil Industry Management Bureau (OIMB) is closely assessing the global trend of supply and demand, while also taking into consideration other factors affecting the prices of LPG,” said Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi. He added that the DOE-OIMB reported that the root cause of the LPG price hike this month was due to the increased demand by the cold weather continents such as North America, Europe and even Northern Asia.
Ecozone summit DAVAO City – More than 200 key representatives from the government, private sector, and other institutions convened here on Thursday to finalize integral steps necessary in accelerating regional economic zone development initiatives in Mindanao. Dubbed as the “Mindanao Ecozone Summit,” the twoday event, held at the Grand Regal Hotel will highlight the collaboration between the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) through the signing of a memorandum of agreement that will encourage concerned agencies to participate in the promotion and development of ecozones within the islandregion. “MinDA sees ecozone development as an imperative measure that will bolster inclusive socioeconomic growth in the region,” said MinDA Chairman Secretary Datu Hj. PSA: Poverty incidents in ARMM drops COTABATO City -- Poverty incidence in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao has dropped based on the latest data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), ARMM officials said Friday. “Latest data from the PSA show poverty incidence in the ARMM in 2015 at 53.7 percent, or 2.1 percentage
points improvement from the 55.8 percent recorded in 2012,” Lisa Grace Bersales, PSA’s civil registrar general, told ARMM officials Friday. The PSA report provides estimates of poverty incidence using income data from the first and second visits under the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES)
conducted in July 2015 and January 2016. The province of TawiTawi recorded the lowest poverty incidence in the survey among 26 provinces in Mindanao posting 12.6 percent while Lanao del Sur has the highest at 71.9 percent. incidents/PAGE 11
