Asean integration OROQUIETA City -- There is a need to harmonize our national and local laws and strengthen our competitive culture in preparation for the regional economic integration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). “These are only some of the things that need fixing before the integration takes effect in 2016, when products and services within the ASEAN can be freely traded without tariff or visa,” Linda O. Boniao, regional director of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), region 10, said. Meanwhile, Boniao said there is also a need to fix our industries to make it competitive with our ASEAN neighbors, citing as example the cost of Philippine sugar, which is high compared to those produced in Thailand.
No shortage BUTUAN City -- The local electricity provider – Agusan del Norte Electric Cooperative (ANECO) expressed high confidence that the city and Agusan del Norte will not experience power shortage this summer. During the consumer network (ConsumerNET) meeting attended by representatives of various government agencies and water, electricity and cable providers, ANECO Information Officer Danny dela Cena said that they continue to contract other power providers to be able to come up with the supply requirements of its consumers. Dela Cena also pointed out the noticeable reduction of electricity rates reflected in its latest billing saying this is due to the reduction in the generation charge. Dela Cena also revealed that, after a little delay to ensure no untoward incident will happen to its consumers, ANECO has put back the more than 100 posts downed by typhoon Seniang.
