Briefly New Tandag bishop A CAGAYAN de Oro priest was appointed by Pope Francis as new bishop of Tandag in Surigao de Sur province. According to an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website, Fr. Raul Dael will be the third bishop of the diocese and will succeed Bishop Nereo Odchimar, 77. He is from Jasa-an in Misamis Oriental. Prior to his appointment, the bishop-elect has been serving as the Vicar for the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. Odchimar, former CBCP president, is set to retire having passed the age limit of 75. He has served the diocese for almost 17 years.

MID the failure of se veral insurance companies to maintain higher net worth requirement, an international insurance firm has assured that it is financially stable and capable of sustaining operations as it expands presence in Mindanao.

Good governance COTABATO City -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DILG-ARMM) handed over Friday a P2-million Performance Challenge Fund to 27 local government units across the region chosen as last year’s recipients of the Seal of Good Local Governance. The awardees were the local governments of Buldon, Barira, Matanog, Parang, Sultan Kudarat, Sultan Mastura, Mother Kabuntalan, Datu Paglas, Raja Buayan, Gen. SK Pendatun, Datu Abdullah Sangki and Upi in Maguindanao, Maluso, Sumisip and Lamitan City in Basilan, Jolo and Talipao in Sulu, Piagapo, Kapatagan and Calanogas in Lanao del Sur. The town executives ,who each received the P2 million cheque, said the award was clear proof that local government operations were moving according to national standards, as recognized by the DILG.
