Briefly New Tandag bishop A CAGAYAN de Oro priest was appointed by Pope Francis as new bishop of Tandag in Surigao de Sur province. According to an article posted on the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) news website, Fr. Raul Dael will be the third bishop of the diocese and will succeed Bishop Nereo Odchimar, 77. He is from Jasa-an in Misamis Oriental. Prior to his appointment, the bishop-elect has been serving as the Vicar for the Clergy of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. Odchimar, former CBCP president, is set to retire having passed the age limit of 75. He has served the diocese for almost 17 years.

MID the failure of se veral insurance companies to maintain higher net worth requirement, an international insurance firm has assured that it is financially stable and capable of sustaining operations as it expands presence in Mindanao.

Good governance COTABATO City -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DILG-ARMM) handed over Friday a P2-million Performance Challenge Fund to 27 local government units across the region chosen as last year’s recipients of the Seal of Good Local Governance. The awardees were the local governments of Buldon, Barira, Matanog, Parang, Sultan Kudarat, Sultan Mastura, Mother Kabuntalan, Datu Paglas, Raja Buayan, Gen. SK Pendatun, Datu Abdullah Sangki and Upi in Maguindanao, Maluso, Sumisip and Lamitan City in Basilan, Jolo and Talipao in Sulu, Piagapo, Kapatagan and Calanogas in Lanao del Sur. The town executives ,who each received the P2 million cheque, said the award was clear proof that local government operations were moving according to national standards, as recognized by the DILG.

GO NEGOSYO veggie model farm reaps success

ARAWI City — To promote agripreneurship, the GO NEGOSYO model farm in Brgy. Linamon in the municipality of Ditsaan-Ramain, Lanao del Sur, held its first harvest festival dubbed “Pakaradian ko Ragonan” on 22 February 2018. Around 350 internallydisplaced persons (IDPs) and host farmers from the municipalities of DitsaanRamain and Bubong took part in the project. The GO NEGOSYO vegetable model farm was conceived to augment food supply and provide livelihood venture to IDPs and host farmers. It also served as a learning venue on the technology

of organic vegetable production. Ginggay HontiverosMalvar, GO NEGOSYO Project Head, along with officials from the Provincial Government, Local Government of Ditsaan-Ramain and Bubong, Department of Agriculture (DA) -Lanao del Sur Office, and other stakeholders attended the festival. The GO NEGOSYO Project Head is optimistic that the project can take farmers economically further as evidenced by their bountiful harvest of assorted vegetables like varied cucurbits (squash, melons, musk and honeydew), and lowland and upland vegetables.

During the ceremony, Mayor Saidamen Adiong, of Ditsaan-Ramain as well as other sectoral representatives, pledged their continuing support to the project. DA Provincial Agricultural Officer Pangalian Balindong, Jr., on the other hand, committed to extend all the needed technical assistance to the beneficiaries to sustain the gains they are currently reaping. With the success of the first run of the model farm, stakeholders are hopeful the project could become a springboard for agripreneurship among farmers in the province. (DA-LDS/PIA-10)

THE Department of Budget and Management Regional Office 10 conducted an orientation on the execution of the 2018 budget and the preparation of 2019 budget on February 26. DBM Regional Director Annabelle M. Atillo said the meeting was aimed to inform agency heads on budget reforms, particularly on the use of annual cash-based appropriations. The budget for 2019 will be cash-based as stipulated in the Budget Memorandum N0. 129

which means that agencies can only incur contractual obligations and disburse payments for goods delivered and services rendered and inspected within the fiscal year, with an extended payment period of three months. Thus, payments of obligations should be settled within the fiscal year of the budget. Contracts awarded at the end of the year can be paid during the three-month extended period. According to DBM-X, the shift will ensure that agencies focus on

implementing the budget of the current fiscal year instead of the prior years. It will also quicken program delivery and strengthen accountability of government as the target outputs of government programs are clearly linked to their appropriated budget. Director Atillo said the shift will further encourage agencies to strengthen their planning so that no residual projects will remain unimplemented at the end of the budget year. budget/PAGE 11

HE Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) sees no anticompetitive behavior in SMC Global Power Holdings, Inc.’s purchase of shares in MasinAES Pte. Ltd., AES Transpower Pte. Ltd., and AES Philippines, Inc. In a statement Monday, PCC said its Merger and Acquisition Office (MAO) has approved last Friday the acquisition deals made

by SMC Global. Under the transaction, SMC Global will hold 100-percent ownership in Masin-AES Phil, AES Transpower, and AES Philippines. “There remains sufficient competitive restraints from competitors in the relevant markets after the acquisition,” the PCC ruling read. “The transaction is not likely to substantially increase the likelihood

that the parties will engage in a coordinated behavior,” it noted. SMC Global portfolio in the relevant market include Sual Power Plant in Sual, Pangasinan; San Roque Hydroelectric Multipurpose Power Project in San Manuel, Pangasinan; Ilijan Power Plant in Ilijan, Batangas; Limay Greenfield Clean Coal Plant in Limay, Bataan; Angat Hydroelectric Power Plant in Angat, Bulacan; and

Greenfield Powerplants in Malita, Davao del Sur and Limay, Bataan. Under the Philippine Competition Act, business transactions hitting the PHP1-billion threshold shall notify the PCC of the deal. Alsons unit asks DoE chief to intervene as NGCP continues to ignore request A UNIT of the Alcantaraled Alsons Consolidated Resources, Inc. has asked the Department of Energy (DoE) secretary to intervene in its request to connect the second phase of its Sarangani power plant to the grid operator’s substation, in a move that it claims to have an impact on three million people in Mindanao. In a letter to Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi dated Feb. 20, 2018, the chief executive officer of Sarangani Energy Corp. (SEC) accused

privately owned National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) of abusing its position as system operator for not acting on the power developer’s request. “NGCP’s inaction on SEC’s request is an abuse of its position as the transmission grid operator and in violation of its mandate as a franchised public utility,” SEC CEO Tirso G. Santillan Jr. said in the letter. “SEC has been requesting NGCP… that it be allowed to install the

necessary facilities in the NGCP Klinan Substation to connect Phase II to the grid. Unfortunately, the request has been pending with NGCP for 15 months already. This has severe consequences not just on SEC but also on its customer distribution utilities who have considered the Phase II supply in their supply projections,” he added. NGCP did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the issue. SEC is currently

constructing the second 105-megawatt (MW) of its 210-MW circulating fluidized bed coal-fired power plant in Maasim, Sarangani province. It targets to start commercial operations by Jan. 15, 2019. “In order to meet its timetable, SEC has to ensure that every aspect of Phase II’s project is completed on time, including the completion of the connection to the grid,” Mr. Santillan said. The SEC official said the timely installation of

the necessary facilities at Klinan substation is needed in order to meet the deadline. He noted the necessary assets should be operational by May 15, 2018 to enable SEC to accomplish the commissioning stage of the second phase, including various commercial operation tests. Mr. Santillan said the request has not been granted “despite our compliance with all applicable rules and regulations and repeated requests for action on the

part of NGCP.” He warned SEC’s customers would suffer “considerable power shortages” if supply from the second unit is delayed. SEC is contracted to supply a total of 105 MW to Mindanao distribution utilities, namely: Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co., Inc.; Cotabato Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative, Inc.; Iligan Light and Power, Inc.; South Cotabato I Electric Cooperative, Inc.; and ngcp/PAGE 11

jhan tiafau hurst Think a minute…Did you know there are 2 days you never need to worry about? The first day is yesterday. It’s simply impossible to change the past. Yesterday is gone… forever. There is nothing any of us can do to bring it back, especially by worrying about it. So whatever mistakes, problems, or hurts we had yesterday, we’ve got to stop worrying about them. We cannot undo what’s already done, nor take back what we’ve already said, only ask forgiveness. Hopefully we learn our lessons from yesterday’s mistakes. But then, let it go! Life goes on, so we’d better go with it. The other day we never need to worr y about is tomorrow. None of us can control or know everything that might happen tomorrow. We don’t even know whether

or not we’ll still be here! What’s going to happen will happen whether we worry about it or not. So we’re left with only one day that we can actually do anything about: today. As the saying goes: “The past is history, tomorrow’s a mystery, so today is all we have. It’s a GIFT, that’s why it’s called the PRESENT.” All we have is right now, and today has enough problems, responsibilities, and worries of its own. The last thing we need is to pile up yesterday’s and tomorrow’s problems on top of today’s! No wonder some people are stressed out with even physical problems and sicknesses. Remember, if you don’t bury your worries, they could bury you! This is why Jesus Christ taught us not to worry about yesterday or tomorrow. Jesus said: “Who can add a single hour to his life by worrying! Don’t worry about tomorrow. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Live just one day at a time.” So all you have to do is take care of today. Make sure you’re doing your very best in your responsibilities and relationships: that your heart is right with your Maker and other people. Do all you can and then do a little hurst/PAGE 10

Indeed, no tourist would dare come to the country and to that resort anymore after this! -ooo PEOPLE POWER GARBAGE, FEBRUARY 25, 2018: Did I hear it right that it was “people power revolution” that the critics of President Duterte tried to commemorate last Sunday, February 25, 2018? I ask because, to me, that gathering actually represented a big insult to the concept of true people’s movements, whose rightful intentions should be the welfare of the people and of the environment. Think about this: Duterte’s critics gathered at the EDSA People Power monument just for a few hours on Sunday but they s omehow m an age d to cough up tons and tons of trash and garbage, which now require cleaning for at least two days. Are t he s e t he p e opl e w ho claim that they are propeople, pro-God and proenvironment? The truth, if you ask me, is that, these people are tr uly the trash or garbage of Philippine society who must be washed down the drain! -ooo LESSON OF EDSA 1986: PERSONAL AND FAMILY INTERESTS ARE H IG H E R T HA N T H E PEOPLE’S INTERESTS: Again, if I were to be asked, the true lesson of EDSA 1986 is truly a simple one: personal and family interests are always put

above the greater interest of our countr ymen by people who become, by some quirk of treacherous fate, leaders of the Filipino nation. Just take a close look at the Constitution that EDSA 1986 gave birth to, for instance. Was it not a fact that the promised agrarian reform in that Charter was nothing but a fake reform? Was it not true that big estates, like the Hacienda Luisita landholding belonging to the family of Corazon and Noynoy Aquino, were exempted from land reform? And, was it not a fact also that the alleged ban in that Charter against political dynasties was similarly a fake prohibition because, in reality, there was no such ban in that Constitution? -ooo NOYNOY SHOULD BE THE ONE TO CLOSE HIS MOUTH: According to the Book of the Law, those who engage in wrongdoing or abuse against their fellow men insist on living their lives in darkness to prevent others from becoming aware of their misdeeds. This was how I viewed former President Noynoy Aquino’s appearance at the House of Representatives on Mond ay, Fe br u ar y 26, 2018, on the issue of Dengvaxia. He bemoaned his desire for a “loud forensic expert” to stop public discussions of the ill-effects of Dengvaxia of Sanofi (a French pharmaceutical firm), allegedly because

the expert was not qualified to talk about the matter. Well, is it not true that the expert had been talking merely about his findings in his examinations? It is Noynoy who should stop opening his lips, for he is not an expert in anyway on the dangers of Dengvaxia. -ooo PUBLIC APOLO GY FOR FOODSPHERE, INC.: I am confirming what I posted in my social networking accounts (Facebook, Twitter, and In s t a g r a m ) a b o ut t h e public apology in favor of CD O Foodsphere, Inc. In the 14 years that I was locked in various legal battles with it in connection with the 50 l i b e l c a s e s or s o t h at CDO filed against me, I saw that this experience I underwent with them was actually used by God for a beneficial purpose. The truth was that, during all the times that I tangled with CDO, it was then that the Children of God Blood Kin of the Christ Church (or the Simbahang Anak ng Diyos Kadugo Ni Kristo, AND KNK)---a fast-growing Christian Church preaching that Jesus is God and Savior, and is God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit---was fully established. From hindsight, I now believe that if I did not encounter this problem with CDO, AND KNK would not be put up and then flourish. Thank God in the Name of Jesus, and thank you, CDO Foodsphere, Inc.

Heroic sanctity hints and traces

roy cimagala Genuine sanctity, and not just the many forms of apparent and fake holiness sadly proliferating in the world today, will always require heroism. And it need not be lived and achieved in some extraordinar y situations. It can be attained even in the very ordinary things of our daily life, but pursued in utmost heroism in following God’s will and ways. In other words, it does not flaunt its performance and achievements. In fact, it likes to pass unnoticed. It’s never showy, although something in it will always attract the attention of those who have faith. Of course, it may turn off those who are hostile to the faith.

This is the sanctity that comes from Christ who, in spite of the many wonderful miracles he made, tried his best not to show off because of them. Rather, he preferred that people get attracted to him when he would already be on the cross, as testified by his words: “And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” (Jn 12,32) Genuine sanctity can never sit well with complacency, laziness, selfsatisfaction, the attitude that we can say enough in our self-giving and the like. It will always demand more and more from us, and we correspond to that demand with utmost freedom and love, never feeling pressured or coerced to do so. It is something done, developed and lived gratuitously, reflecting the very gratuitousness of the love of God for us. The dedication and devotion involved in sanctity is freely given, with no strings attached, even if we know that God will richly reward such self-giving.

And in situations where there can be many legitimate options, the one pursuing genuine sanctity will choose the worst option, that is, the one that give the most disadvantage to him, again without seeking any earthly reward. In that way, he gains more merit in the eyes of God since he would be approximating the example of Christ who chose, of all the options to redeem us, the one where he had to bear all our sins by offering his life on the cross. This way of behaving echoes what Christ himself said: “When you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you...” (Mt 6,3-4) In other words, we have to do things out of love for God only and for no other reason. We should avoid trying to fish for some human or worldly glory. The intention should be entirely pure, without any mixture of self-aggrandizement.

In fact, on the contrary, we will seek and choose what will keep us always humble, ref lecting the example of Christ himself and that of St. Paul, who said: “Whatever was an asset to me, I count as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord, for whom I have lost all things...” (Phil 3,7-8) This is the heroism involved in the pursuit of genuine sanctity. We need to train ourselves to develop this spirit and attitude that should inspire our every thought, word and deed. That is why we can never exaggerate the need to humble ourselves all the time, seeing to it that we have a firm grip on our egos whose most subtle form of pride is to project an image of sanctity that is not truly inspired by the love of God, but rather by one’s self-love. We have to be most wary of this very likely possibility!

The Folkloric Dance Troupe has been a catalyst in propagating the diverse cultures of Mindanao, not only in the Philippines but also abroad. It has represented the country in the ASEAN Dance Festival Exposition in Brunei, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia. Today, it continues to share the wealth of Mindanao through its various road shows, and full length performances around the country and the world. In 2009, a new group was formed. Named after its predecessor, Next Moves, the group welcomed its Artistic Director, Mr. Roger Ensomo Odron, a threetime winner and Hall of Fame awardee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts-sponsored National Modern Dance Competition. Under Roger’s tutelage, Next Moves soared higher and ventured into the national and international scene. Acting as LDCU’s dance ambassadors, Next Moves perfectly exemplifies the university’s goal of developing and moulding total persons who passionately pursue excellence and creative expression. She said DBP would really need additional funds to increase its loan portfolio and they plan to back this by more aggressive deposittaking activities, with the bank eyeing to open 10 new branches and eight extension offices nationwide this year alone. These offices are expected to bring the bank’s total branches to 135 and the extension offices to 11 by the end of this year. “Right now we have a very healthy headroom for additional lending to infrastructure projects. And we want to continue to fuel that by low-cost deposits. We want our countrymen to be our partner, transforming their savings into infrastructure projects,” she said. “If needed, we can also raise funds but that is not yet in our priorities this

year because as I’ve said our ratios would show that we still have enough funds to support even a 26 percent growth in loan portfolio,” she said. Last year, the bank registered a 21.82 percent increase in gross loan portfolio to PHP293.47 billion, 35 percent of which, amounting to PHP76.23 billion, was allocated for infrastructure and logistics projects. Borromeo also said they also plan to increase the bank’s total assets of PHP597.41 billion last year to about PHP 1 trillion during its jubilee year in 2022. The DBP chief said they are not allocating any specific amount for the infrastructure projects as long as it is still within the allowable single borrower’s limit set by the central bank. “This administration would like to be labeled as the administration that supported the infra or

the golden years of infra projects in the country. As a policy map we want to support that. That in a way is refocusing or reminding the public that we are the infra bank,” she said. The National Economic and Development Authority has identified at least 75 infrastructure projects and Borromeo noted that most of these will be funded by official development assistance (ODA) loans while others will be funded partly through private-public partnership. “Whatever the modality will be we are ready to fund it or partner with them,” she said. Last year, the bank extended about PHP7 billion worth of loans for 132 projects under its flagship Infrastructure Contractors Support (DBP ICONS) program, which helped improving the capacity of Filipino contractors. Projects under this

financing program include social and transport infrastructures like roads and bridges, water supply, wastewater and sanitation. Borromeo said the bank also extended last year loans for the construction of about 120 hospitals and 2,486 school buildings, most of which were projects of local government units while other projects were those of private entities. She said local government officials have been inspired and challenged to provide their constituents services and infrastructure that national agencies have been putting in place. “We are just very happy to be partnering with those progressive-minded local leaders,” she said. Borromeo added DBP is also providing financial advisory services to entities like the Bases Conversion and Development Authority. (PNA)

BDO posts 7% hike in net income in ‘17 SY-led BDO Unibank Inc. (BDO) on Monday reported a seven percent jump in net income in 2017 to PHP28.1 billion, boosted by growth across all business segments. In a disclosure with the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the bank said improvements in all its businesses matched the financial institution’s earnings guidance for last year. “Excluding consolidation effects of the life insurance business, however, this represented

a strong 15 percent jump in core earnings on the back of solid growth in loans, low-cost deposits and fee-income,” it said. Core businesses lending and deposit-taking as well as well as fee-based income drove the bank’s earnings last year. BDO said customers loans went up by 18 percent to P1.8 trillion while total deposits rose by 11 percent to P2.1 trillion. In particular, lowcost savings and current account (CASA), which

account for 73 percent of the total, ticked-up by 12 percent. With these output, the bank posted a 25 percent increase in net interest income to PHP81.8 billion. During the same period, non-interest income went up by 13 percent to P47.2 billion, boosted by the 30 percent rise in fee-based income to PHP28.9 billion. Last year, the bank’s insurance premiums increased by 23 percent to P9.9 billion and this, the disclosure

said, “compensated for the expected 20 per cent decline in trading and forex gains to PHP3.9 billion given the challenging market conditions.” “Overall, gross operating income advanced by 20 per cent to P129 billion,” it said. Cebu Pacific opens applications for 2nd batch of Cadet Pilots

The Philippines’ leading carrier, Cebu Pacific (PSE: CEB) is now accepting applications for the second batch of cadet-pilots. CEB will be recruiting 16

candidates to join its corps of pilots, after completing a 56-week training program, including 52 weeks at Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) in

Australia, in a “study now, pay later” scheme. The Cebu Pacific Cadet Pilot Program is a 56-week program that recruits candidates from

ab initio, and puts them on a 56-week integrated flying training; flight theory and education course to become licensed Commercial Pilots.

After completion of the program, the cadet-pilots become First Officers at CEB, and join the corps of aviators at Cebu Pacific, flying domestic and international routes. The program is open to all Filipinos who are college graduates, proficient in English and hold passports valid for at least two years prior to the start of the program. The cadet-pilots need not worry about expenses related to the flight training, as CEB will shoulder the cost first, and amortize the payment for the course

while they are employed. The entire program will be financed by Cebu Pacific, with successful cadet-pilots guaranteed employment with CEB upon graduation. They will then reimburse the cost of the program through salary deduction over a maximum of ten years at zero-interest. The first batch of CEB Cadet Pilots has been selected. PLDT, Smart hold development training for outstanding LGUs Representatives of the 24 cities and municipalities that received the Synergeia Foundation’s Seal of Good Education Governance recently underwent a two-day personal development training from PLDT and Smart Communications. Mayors, vice mayors, councilors, Department of Education officials, and school principals, among others, learned about developing a power personality, emotional quotient, financial literacy, customer service, and an innovative teaching method. The training is part of the incentive package given by PLDT and Smart to the Synergeia seal recipients, who have been recognized for their outstanding efforts in delivering basic education. Each package, worth up to P1.5 million, is customized based on the local government unit’s respective circumstances and needs. Among the incentives are the installation and maintenance of Wi-Fi hotspots in public areas and the Smart School-in-a-Bag for LGUs in remote areas. This contains a solar panel to serve schools without electricity, mobile devices, curriculum-based educational content, teacher training, monitoring, and evaluation. DENR begins to pull down illegal structures in Boracay

T

he demolition of illegal structures on the world-famous Boracay Island began on Saturday morning with the dismantling of the viewing deck built on a rock formation by a posh resort. Workers commissioned by Boracay West Cove started the demolition works a day after Environment Secretary Roy A. Cimatu visited the area and told resort owner Crisostomo Aquino that the structure has to be removed for being illegal. Cimatu said the around 120-square meter viewing deck, which stands on three natural rock formations, was not covered by the Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism Purposes (FLAg-T) secured by the resort. The resort’s FLAg-T only covers 998 square meters in Sitio Diniwid in Barangay Balabag, and it does not include the viewing deck, he said. “I have to implement the law,” said Cimatu, who was recently tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte to address the environmental problems besetting one of the country’s top tourist destinations.

“We are running out of time. We are only given six months by the President,” Cimatu told Aquino when they met last Friday. Aquino initially bargained for 30 days, but Cimatu said the demolition has to be done immediately. A demolition team from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was scheduled to pull down the viewing deck last Friday, but Cimatu deferred it to Saturday in consideration to resort guests who are already on the viewing deck. Aquino also agreed to self-demolish the illegal structure on the prodding of Cimatu. “The moment you do it, you will be admired all over the country," said Cimatu. "It will set an example to all resort owners here to follow the law.” Cimatu also instructed the resort owner to make sure that all debris are removed during the demolition. "I do not want the waters to become dirty during the demolition," he said. According to Aquino, he built the deck for guests to see the most beautiful view of the Boracay sunset.

Both Miraflores and Ceciron threw their support behind the DENR’s efforts to rehabilitate the pollution-challenged Boracay Island, which for many years has been the source of income and employment for Aklan province. Cimatu got the commitment of Miraflores in providing additional trucks that will transport the island’s residual waste to the Malay mainland. “We need around five trucks or more to move garbage every night from the materials recovery facility (MRF) directly to the barge and to Malay (mainland),” Cimatu said during the meeting. “This will improve the collection system and garbage does not stay overnight in the MRF,” he added. At the same time, Cimatu he would allow BWCI to drain water from their sewage treatment plant in Barangay Balabag to a nearby wetland area provided the water quality meets the standards set by the DENR’s Environmental Management Bureau.

This will enable the treatment plant to reduce some load and prevent the problem of backflow, he said. "I will only allow it after a water quality test shows that the water is safe for discharge,” he pointed out. During the meeting, Miraflores told Cimatu that the provincial government supports the dismantling of illegal structures violating the 30-meter shoreline easement. The governor also said they favor the demolition of structures within forestland areas that have no Forest Land Use Agreement for Tourism coming from the DENR. After the meeting with local government officials, Cimatu went straight to the controversial West Grove Resort located in the west side of Boracay, where he met with the owner Crisanto Aquino. The resort became controversial for building structures on natural rock formations and operating for years without permit. “I have to implement the law. These have to be demolished,” Cimatu told Aquino, referring to the restaurant built on top of the rock formations. Aquino agreed to selfdemolish the structures.

The Moped (MP) or Underbone segment gained only 3% growth in 2017 but in terms of actual sales volume, it competes with the Business models, having sold 430,465 units. The 15 commodities, which are covered under the PRDP’s Investment for Rural Enterprise and Agricultural Productivity (I-REAP), are abaca, banana, milk fish, cacao, cassava, coconut, oil palm, coffee, dairy, goat, mango, organic rice, rubber, seaweed and swine. The I-REAP component of the program addresses the enterprise aspect of the crops being developed. The south-central Mindanao area, or the South Cotabato-Cotabato-Sultan Kudarat-Sarangani-General Santos City (Soccsksargen) Region, took up the largest share of the enterprise budget at P123.49 million for 11 projects. This covers the development of coffee in Tupi, South Cotabato, with the funding granted to the Tupi Coffee Growers Association, Inc. (TCGAI), specifically production improvement and marketing of dried green coffee beans. “Through this project, we hope that the value of coffee farming and the lives of coffee farmers in the province will be elevated. MDPPA Surpasses Projection in Sales Growth for 2017 After having achieved their 1 million annual unit sales milestone in 2016, the Motorcycle Development Program Participants Association Inc. (MDPPA) yet again receives another feather in their cap, having recorded a yearon-year sales growth of 16% in 2017. MDPPA is an organization of motorcycle manufacturers in the Philippines namely, Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki and KYMCO. These five brands have closed the previous year with a combined annual sales of 1,319,084 motorcycle units. “A growing economy

in the country means more buying capability for the average Filipino. It also meant more room for businesses to expand. Hence, the significant rise in demand for both Automatic (AT) models for personal use and Business (BU) models for commercial use,” said MDPPA President Armando B. Reyes. “We were also able to tap new market segments by offering new choices in our product line up which are more relevant and more affordable as well,” he added. This was something historic in every way. Yamaha Motor Philippines Inc. (YMPH) partnered with the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRT) to create the Yamaha Monumento Station. It was a first for the brand who also had its own signature train that bared the designs of its latest campaign “We Are MIO”. After, they set their sights on the Motorcycle Capital of the Philippines. The 10th Avenue in Caloocan is a hotbed for all things motorcycle. A haven that housed everything for riders in the country. the cultivation of racing in the Philippines, they awarded medals to the 12 qualifying riders for the Yamaha Grand Prix.
