Not smuggled rice THE Bureau of Customs (BoC) here has cleared some 10,800 bags of rice shipment, which was impounded last week pending verification of papers, assistant BoC collector Roswald Joseph J. Pague said on Monday. Pague said that the rice shipment was held sometime last week by a joint verification team of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the BoC, and the Philippine Coast Guard stationed at the Port of Cagayan de Oro. He said that the joint anti-rice smuggling agencies of the government held the rice shipment to find out if these came from Thailand and Vietnam which surreptitiously gained entry into the Philippine port without proper documents.

IRA allotment MARAWI City -- The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government will be providing P500,000 monthly financial aid this year to each of the 12 municipalities in the region that do not have internal revenue allotment (IRA). ARMM executive secretary Laisa Alamia said the financial aid is intended to help the local government units (LGUs) improve their performance and fast-track government programs and projects in the region. A total of P72 million has been included by the present ARMM administration in its budget for this year to support the 12 towns. These towns include Shariff Saydona Mustapha, Datu Hoffer, Datu Salibo, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Datu Blah Sinsuat, Mangudadatu, Pandag, and Northern Kabuntalan in the province of Maguindanao as well as Akbar, Al-Barka, Hadji Muhtamad, and Hadji Mohammad Ajul in the province of Basilan.
