Briefly Dry spell WITH the dry spell easing in Luzon and the Visayas, the government will prioritize aid to Mindanao to mitigate the severe effects of El Niño on harvests. Department of Agriculture (DA) Secretary Proceso J. Alcala said that he will visit Maguindanao soon to evaluate the situation in the province. Reports show that affected areas planted with both rice and corn in Maguindanao have hit 17,000 hectares involving more than 20,000 farmers. The province has been placed under a state of calamity. The DA continues to distribute shallow tube wells, water pumps, and solar water pumps to farmers’ groups and irrigators’ associations.

HE target completion of the interconnection of the Visayas and Mindanao power grids is now set at 2021 in consideration of a route shift that will now traverse Negros to Zamboanga.

Under Provincial Ordinance No. 406-2016 authored by Provincial Board Member Antidio B. Amora, entitled: “An Ordinance Providing Financial Support to the Farmer Leaders on Agriculture Rural Based Organization Under the People Empowerment and Agri-Entrepreneural Skills and Livelihood Enhancement Program of the Province of Agusan del Norte,” PAFC and IFARMC members who shall be present during regular quarterly meeting of farmer leaders will receive an honorarium of P500.00 each.
