PMAP award THE People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) – Cagayan de Oro City Chapter cited recently the outstanding people management performance of energyfirm STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI). PMAP-CDO Chapter President Aida May de Guzman presented the special award of recognition to SPI during the 5th General Membership Meeting (GMM) held recently at the Marco Alwana Hotel. SPI Power Plant Manager Dr. Carsten Evers together with Jerome Soldevilla and Dr. Wilma Magdale received the award on behalf of the company. De Guzman said that the award is a recognition of “SPI’s strong corporate leadership and for its commitment to promote sound human resource and people management practices.”

Cargo handling ZAMBOANGA City -The Zamboanga City Integrated Port Services, Inc. (ZCIPSI), which is in charge of the cargo handling at the local port, has acquired new equipment to better serve the port’s clientele. ZCIPSI General Manager Romeo Casela announced Friday the newly-acquired modern equipment, which are part of the firm’s P80 million procurement program for 2013, were imported from Japan and Finland. Casela said the equipment arrived Thursday and these include a 45-tonner capacity reach stacker; two five-tonner capacity forklifts; six units chassis; three units tractor head; and, a 40-footer container spreader.

Exporters urged to brace for ASEAN integration

REGATTA DE ESPERANZA. Badjaos employed through the “Regatta de Esperanza” by the Department of Tourism (DOT) take a breather following its launching Tuesday (3 Dec. 2013) at the shore of Paseo del Mar. The regatta is aimed to provide short term employment to Badjaos displaced by the siege last September in Zamboanga City.

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) advised Philippine exporters to prepare and consider the opportunities offered by the ASEAN Economic Community by 2015. “Business, more than gover nment, wi ll dr ive regional integration,” Trade undersecretary Ponciano Manalo, Jr. said.

He noted that it is business that will take advantage of the opportunities offered by a single market as well as the wide and varied complementation networks of a regional supply chain within ASEAN and its six free trade agreement (FTA) partners, namely, China, Japan, Korea, Australia, New exporters/PAGE 11
