Rebuilding Marawi

EFFORTS to rebuild Marawi City is now going full blast as the government aims to restore the battle-scarred city before President Rodrigo Duterte ends his term in 2022, Malacañang said. “The goal is to completely rebuild Marawi during the term of President Duterte,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque Jr. said. In the press briefing, Roque, along with officials of Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) headed by Housing And Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) Secretary Eduardo del Rosario, Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff Leonardo Guerrero, Marawi City Mayor Majul Gandamra as well as other national and local officials, reported on the accomplishments and plans on rebuilding Marawi.

Competitiveness THE National Competitiveness Council ( N C C) s a i d t h a t p a r t s of Mindanao remain competitive despite slower economic growth this year, with certain cities in the region maintaining high positions in the Cities and Municipalities Competitiveness Index (CMCI). NCC Co-chairman Guillermo M. Luz said that big cities in Mindanao continue to outperform parts of Metro Manila. “Certain cities in Mindanao… have stepped up and they are among the most competitive cities in the Philippines. I see Davao, I see Tagum and I see Cagayan de Oro City, General Santos City [having high ranks in the index],” he added.

MALAYBALAY City – The Bukidnon provincial government is rolling out at least P300 million in livelihood projects in the first quarter of 2018 designed to alleviate poverty incidence in the province, board member Nemesio Beltran Jr. said. “The year 2018 is expected to usher in a robust economy to the Province of Bukidnon,” he said in his contribution to “Bukidnon 2018:

Public Outlook” series initiated by this reporter. Beltran, of the city’s second district, said the livelihood, agriculture and business sectors would surely perk up as the provincial government is set to roll out the fund in the first quarter next year. PRRD assures Lanao del Norte’s quick recovery after ‘Vinta’ havoc PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte visited Lanao del Norte on Wednesday, December 27, to personally assess the damage of Typhoon Vinta assuring local officials of assistance for the province’s immediate recovery. “I’m sure we still have some money to spare and supplies to share with you,” President Duterte told local government officials during

the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) briefing held in Tubod, Lanao del Norte. Duterte said his administration will try to “fast- track everything” in order to meet the needs of the typhoon victims adding that he has already instructed concerned department heads to do their job.

“It’s in the departments concerned and I will just order them to come here and do their thing, in whatever aspect they are supposed to deal with,” he said.
