APPARENTLY, the “X’mas” abbreviation has been used for hundreds of years (some texts cite its first known use as 1551) in religious writing and variants such as Xtemass, originated as handwriting abbreviations for the typical pronunciation /ˈkrɪsməs/. Besides the Greek letter X representing Christ, the word
mas in Xmas is from the Old English word derived from Latin for Mass. The word “Christ” and its compounds, including “Christmas”, have been abbreviated in English for at least the past 1,000 years, long before the modern “Xmas” was commonly used. “Christ” (which comes

Illegal logging MARAWI City -- At least P1.4 million worth of illegal logs were confiscated and turned over to the Anti-Illegal Logging Task Group of Lanao del Sur, December 17. Approximately 28,730 board feet of premium assorted logs were seized as the Department of Environment and Natural Resources in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DENRARMM) closed three illegally operating sawmills from three barangays in Maguing town, this province. DENR-ARMM Secretary Forester Kahal Kedtag said the operation was immediately conducted by the department after proving through a series of investigations that illegal cutting of trees has been happening in the watershed area. Massive cutting of trees in the ARMM, Kedtag said, is strictly prohibited in pursuant to the Regional Governor’s Executive Order No. 1 series of 2012 or the Total Logging Ban.

Miculob attributed the low durian export to the decrease of production this year due to the onslaught of El Niño phenomenon and the noninclusion of durian as among the fruits for export to China durian/PAGE 11
