New Zealand AID NEW ZEALAND has committed a $2.5 million to support agricultural development and food security in Mindanao, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. In a statement, the FAO said the project is aimed at restoring the agricultural livelihoods of communities affected by armed conflict, drought and flooding in the provinces of Cotabato, Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur from 2015 to 2017. The project is expected to reach 3,000 farming families in Maguindanao and Cotabato provinces alone.

HE Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED), an independent, think-do institution engaged in issues of energy, environment, and development in the Philippines, expressed opposition to the convening of a global clean coal alliance—a proposal made by the US Delegation to the Conference of Parties (COP23).

USAID expands dev’t program in Mindanao
Undocumented Indons DAVAO City -- The Indonesian Consular Office will provide assistance to more undocumented Indonesians living in Mindanao. Indonesian Consul General Berlian Napitupulu said the Consulate, together with the Philippine Department of Justice (DOJ), Bureau of Immigration (BIR), and with the help of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been working together to assist these undocumented Indonesians. Napitupulu said there is an estimated 68 Indonesian communities in Mindanao and based on the study by the UNHCR there are 8,745 people of Indonesian descent. “They were here for a long time already, even before Indonesian independence. Some of them belong to the third generation, even fourth generation; and unfortunately they were undocumented persons of Indonesiandescent,” Napitupulu said during his guesting at the Habi at Kape Medium Forum held at Abreeza Mall on Nov. 22.
