Promote IDP products AS Cagayan de Oro commemorated yesterday the second anniversary of typhoon Sendong, Councilor Enrico Salcedo, chair of the City Council committee on social services appeals to the public to support and patronize the livelihood products of the Internally Displaced People (IDP) or the Sendong survivors. The livelihood products of Sendong Relocation communities are now displayed at the City Hall grounds starting December 16 and will run until December 20, from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Among the products to be sold are Christmas decorations and accessories (handicrafts), processed foods, cakes and pastries, native foods, pillow cases, blankets, bags and RTWs. Salcedo thanked the Community Improvement Division and City Social Welfare and Development Department for successfully facilitating the skills training and for continuously supervising the various livelihood projects of the IDPs.
Tourism projects GENERAL Santos City -- Seven more tourism road projects worth around P700 million are in the pipeline for implementation by next year in parts of Region 12 or the Soccsksargen Region, a regional official of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) disclosed. Reynaldo Tamayo, DPWH Region 12 acting director, said Tuesday the proposed road projects were part of the second batch of tourism investments that were earlier endorsed by the agency and the Department of Tourism (DOT) to further enhance the region’s tourism potentials. “These projects are mainly aimed to improve access to and from various emerging tourism sites within the region,” he said in a statement. Region 12 comprises the provinces of South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, North Cotabato and the cities of General Santos, Koronadal, Tacurong, Kidapawan and Cotabato.

Alsons goes full blast new power projects
A
MAJOR player in the power industry in Mindanao is committed to s u pp l y i ng u p to 25 percent of the island’s electricity as it goes full blast in the construction of power projects that could produce up to 463 megawatts.
Joseph C. Nocos, Alsons Power’s Vice President for Project Development, gave the assurance in a special session of the Zamboanga City Council early last week. “[Alsons Power] will exert all efforts to ensure that by 2016 the Zamboanga City Electrical Cooperative (ZAMCELCO) will have access to baseload capacity generated by Alsons Power as agreed upon in our power sales agreement,” Nocos said. Nocos reaffirmed the company’s commitment to provide Zamboanga City with a steady supply of baseload electricity from its generating plants by 2016. “Our commitment to the people and the city of Z amb oanga remains steadfast,” Nocos assured the city council. NGCP strengthens ties with M’danao power generators THE state-owned National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has strengthened its coordination with M i n d a n a o’s p o w e r generators by conducting educational fora about the technical aspects of the transmission industry that
will be beneficial for both the generation and transmission sectors’ operations. Among the aspects given highlights were those involving grid operations, the power situation for 2013 and the outlook for 2014 for the Mindanao

HOLDING FIRM Aboitiz Equity Ventures, Inc. (AEV) is increasing exposure in its p ower and b an k ing subsidiaries, the company said in separate disclosures on Monday. “AEV bought yesterday 3 .7 6 6 mi l li on common shares of Aboitiz Power Corp. (AboitizPower) at a price of P31.70 per share” the company said. The shares were sold at a 4.08% discount from AboitizPower’s closing price of P33.05 apiece on Monday, w hich was 80 centavos or 2.48% higher than Friday’s P32.25-pershare finish. In a s eparate f iling, t he cong lomerate s aid: “AEV bought today 80,000 common shares of Union Bank of the Philippines (UnionBank) at a price of P124.90 per share.” The bank shares were also purchased at a slight discount from UnionBank’s closing price o f P 1 2 5 . 0 0 y e s t e r d a y, unchanged from its finish last Friday.
