BSP scraps 28-day TDF offering for Dec. 20 bid

THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is studying Mindanao as a third location for shipbuilding, apart from Subic and Cebu, to be supported with a program of incentives under the second phase of its Manufacturing Resurgence Program (MRP). DTI Assistant Secretary for industry development and trade policy Rafaelita M. Aldaba told reporters that the department is currently drafting an incentives program for the shipbuilding industry to attract investors and boost local manufacturing, akin to the Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy Program for the auto industry. “We are also preparing a support package which could build a maritime industrial heart in the country along with the promotion of the medium and small-sized vessels (which are roll-on, roll-off capable),” she said.

The Finance chief said that the Committee’s approval of the initial Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) bill encourages Finance officials to work harder for the next batches. “We are now ready for the TRAIN to leave the station,” he said, citing its advantage on the Duterte administration’s infrastructure program called “Build, Build, Build”. “The PHP130 billion that we expect from the TRAIN, the net revenue effect, is certainly very close to the bill, the net revenue, that was passed in the House (of Representatives), so we are pleased that the legislature has given us to where we go to begin a really serious infrastructure program,” he said. approval/PAGE 11

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) will not be offering the 28-day Term Deposit Facility (TDF) during the auction on Dec. 20 as it continues to be less attractive to banks. Data released by the central bank Wednesday showed that only the sevenday facility will be offered

for PHP40 billion in next week’s auction. This week, both tenors received bids that are lower than the PHP40 billion offering. BSP data show that the short-dated TDF attracted PHP38.92 billion worth of tenders, also lower than last week’s PHP41.269 billion

bids. This resulted in the drop of bid coverage ratio to 0.9730 from last week’s 1.0317. Its rate, me anw hi le, improved to 3.4542 percent from last week’s 3.4171 percent. Tenders for the 28-day facility this week totaled PHP33.015 billion, higher

than last week’s PHP32.84 billion. This resulted in the hike of its bid coverage ratio to 0.8251 from 0.8210 last week. However, its rate slipped to 3.4954 percent from the pre vious week’s 3.4940 percent. BSP Deputy Governor scraps/PAGE 11
