Briefly PAL’s new routes PHILIPPINE Airlines (PAL) subsidiary Air Philippines Corp., also known as PAL Express, has agreed to serve the DavaoManado and Zamboanga-Kota Kinabalu routes starting March 31 next year, Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol, chair of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), said over the weekend. “We are looking forward to these new linkages,” said Mr. Piñol, noting that these flights will boost trade and partnerships between Mindanao and the rest of the Brunei-IndonesiaMalaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMPEAGA). Mr. Piñol said they have been working to enhance economic ties in the sub-region, especially with Indonesia and Malaysia.

Transport project THE DAVAO City government is considering how to raise the P2.8 billion in counterpart funds for the P18.66-billion Davao Public Transport Modernization Project, which was among the six projects approved by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board on Nov. 29. Ivan C. Cortez, City Planning and Development Office coordinator who was part of the team that defended the project before the board, said the city will be considering funding it internally or taking a loan for the project, also known as the high priority bus system (HPBS). Local governments are typically required to pay for a share of major projects to ensure they have a stake in its success.

ESPITE various tariff roadblocks, the country’s banana exports totaled 3.593 million metric tons (MT) in the first 10 months of 2019, up nearly 41% from a year earlier, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said.

According to preliminary PSA data, banana exports rose 40.79% year-on-year. In October, exports totaled 408,060 MT. The 10-month total was EXPORTS/PAGE 19
