DAVAO CITY — Fisherfolk here are asking the Department of Agriculture (DA) to increase the tuna allocation for distribution at the city’s wet markets to 20 metric tons (MT) per day from the current 3.5 MT due to the large excess catch that needs to go into cold storage. “We are faced with the problem of not being able to distribute excess tuna supply to the local wet markets as we are limited to the 3.5 MT allocation per day,” said Argie Lumibao, United Davao Fishport Business Association President and the city’s Fisheries and Resource Management Council (FARMC) chairperson. Mr. Lumibao said the industry is often forced to use cold storage for next-day distribution of product, which means extra costs.
Airport expansion DAVAO City -- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) through the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap)), is set to implement the expansion of the Francisco Bangoy International Airport or the Davao International Airport (DIA) in Davao City. This was revealed Wednesday by Caap-Davao City area manager Agnes Udang, saying that the expansion will address the increasing number of travelers from Davao City. “Definitely we will expand. This is because we noticed that there is an increase of total number of passengers here as compared the previous years,” she said in an interview. According to Udang, the expansion will include an additional bay to accommodate one boarding bridge. The planned expansion would address the clamor for a bigger airport terminal by the tourism sector. The tourism and business sector even clamored for the creation of the Davao International Airport Authority.
