Time's greatest place SIARGAO Island made it into Time magazine's list of "greatest places" in 2021, which recognizes destinations that were able to adapt and innovate despite the challenges brought about by the pandemic. In a statement, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat hailed Siargao's inclusion as a recognition of the country's continuous efforts to make the country a safe destination once travel resumes. "I am pleased that the country's innate beauty continues to draw attention from travelers all over the world despite the pandemic. We are doubling our efforts to create a future of Philippine travel that is safe, more fun, and provides travelers with an authentic and meaningful experience throughout their journey," she said.

ORONADAL City– Moro civil society organizations (CSOs) were dismayed over the failure of President Rodrigo Duterte to push the extension of the transition period in the Bangsamoro region as a priority legislative measure during his sixth and final State of the Nation Address (SONA) last week. In his almost three-hour speech, Duterte cited the signing of Republic Act 11054 or the Organic Law for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (OLBARMM) as one of his administration’s key
milestones, but kept mum over the incessant clamor to extend the life of the B angsamoro Transition Authority (BTA). “We’re disappointed that the President did not mention SKIPPING/PAGE 7

BTA extension AS the third regular session of the 18th Congress officially started, a group urged lawmakers to pass the bill extending the transition period of the Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA), based on the provisions of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL) which was clearly ratified by the overwhelming majority of the Bangsamoro people. In a statement on Friday, the Bangsamoro People’s Coalition for the BTA Extension said extending the transitional period will show a responsive partnership between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). Earlier this week, the group held a peaceful prayer rally in Tandang Sora, Quezon City to ask for divine intervention to enlighten the national leaders on the importance of this call.
