He said that the approval of the PPPC would also lead to the privatization of a portion of a prime lot located at the old provincial capitol compound in Cagayan de Oro City. Emano said that the provincial government owns about eight hectares of prime lot in the city, where the seat of the provincial government is presently located. He added that some of the provinceowned buildings and lots are also leased by regional government offices. reading/PAGE 11

Girl-leader advocates for children’s rights By LINA SAGARAL REYES, Contributing Editor
ALABEL, SARANGANI -Michelle Baranda, 17, carries, like a luminous amulet in the deep pockets of her thoughts, the words of the renowned educator and rights activist Helen Keller: while it is true that the world is full of adversity; it is also true
that the world is full of the overcoming of adversity. But it is the lesser-known Johanna Sullivan, Keller’s lifelong teacher, whose perseverance coaxed the best out of Keller, that Baranda holds up as a model. Unlike Keller and Sullivan, who
both became blind at an early age, Baranda grew up enjoying the full powers of sight, hearing and speech. But still, in a way, she explained, she considers herself to have lived a life of adversity but also of overcoming adversity like Keller and Sullivan. ‘’I know what suffering means, what it means to lose
what’s important to me. The very day I was born, my father disappeared from our lives. My mother lost a husband and together with my elder sister, I lost a father,” she said. According to her mother, her father was arrested for robbery and carnapping that midnight in 1999 while she rights/PAGE 11
