Stable supply THE government is committed to stabilizing prices by augmenting the food supply and ensuring that the supply chains of goods, especially food, will be unhampered during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) period, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) said. The Philippine S t at i s t i c s Au t h o r i t y reported Tuesday that the country’s headline inflation rate fell to 4.5 percent in March 2021 from 4.7 percent in the previous month. This is the first easing of the inflation rate since September 2020. The slower inflation in March 2021 was mainly driven by the decrease in the price indices for major food items.

Rido COTABATO City – A state of calamity has been declared in the entire town of Talitay, Maguindanao, due to armed hostilities triggered by a family feud (rido). Talitay Mayor Montasir Sabal approved Tuesday a resolution allowing the local government unit to use its quick response fund to provide relief assistance to displaced families. The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office has placed the internally displaced persons (IDPs) to about 700 families or 3,500 individuals.

Banana industry slowed down by excessive fees T Thank you for trusting us!

HE slack in tbe country's banana industry has been attributed to existing high government fees and the lack of local ordinances, the Pilipino Banana Growers and Entrepreneurs Association (PBGEA) said yesterday.

"We call on the government to bring down excessive fees and streamline the processing of required customs duties," s ai d PB G E A e xe c ut ive director Stephen Antig. It would also help to have simpler procedures for the compliance of stakeholders, Antig said.

Specifically, Antig cited the possible reduction in lodgment fees with the Bureau of Customs, as well as the "suspension of wharfage fees until the situation gets better". Antig also said that considering the logistics problems that surfaced INDUSTRY/PAGE 7

MALUNGON, Sarangani -Tourist arrivals in Sarangani province have been increasing since the last quarter of 2020 despite the restrictions meant to curb the spread of COVID-19, an official said on Wednesday. Moreno was referring to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center-Cagayan de Oro Cit y-Center for Emerging and Reemerging Infectious Diseases (NMMCCDO-CEREID), which will be turned over to the staterun NMMC on April 8. While the facility was c re ated to add re s s t he Covid-19 pandemic, Moreno

said its long-term function would be as an infectious diseases hub for Mindanao, similar to Manila's RITM. "It's a very ambitious dream, but hopefully, when this will be turned over (to NMMC), it will be a good launching pad for this dream (to happen)," Moreno said.
