Armm’s vibrant economy THE AUTONOMOUS Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) posted a record 7.3% gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth rate in 2017, up from 0.40% a year earlier, boosted mainly by the recovery of the Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry, and Fishing (AHFF) sector. The 2017 GRDP performance was the highest growth rate in the region’s history since its establishment in 1990. It surpassed the 2017 national economic average of 6.7 %. In 2015, ARMM posted a minus 0.40% GRDP growth rate. Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman said the region’s growth in 2017 will “set the benchmark for the Bangsamoro transition,” with Congress expected to pass the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) when it resumes session in May.

OTABATO City -- The Autonomous Reg i on in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is relying on its strong agriculture sector for the region’s continuous growth, regional statistical records showed.

The Philippine Statistics Authority – ARMM (PSA-ARMM) said that out of 17 regions in the country, ARMM is the only region with a strong agricultural base, as the rest of the country thrives on predominantly services- and industrial-based regional economies. “ The ARMM is a persistent and predominantly agricultural region,” PSAvibrant/PAGE 11

CDO has a shortage of taxis By GERRY LEE GORIT, Reporter

CAGAYAN de Oro metropolis is in need of 300 more taxicabs, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 10 director Aminoden Guro said over the weekend. Guro said with the city’s current population of 1.1 million, the ideal number of tax cabs plying the streets should be around 3,000. Yet the LTFRB regional records show that Cagayan de Oro has only 2,660 taxis, or a shortage of around 340. Guro also said that according to existing LTFRB regulations, they would not grant franchises anymore to individual operators with only one taxi unit. With this, Guro is urging taxi operators in Cagayan de Oro to group themselves as a cooperative

Cagayan de Oro Taxi Operators Association vice president Gloria Corrales said that while they are still planning to purchase new cabs to offset the shortage, they

will be tapping the new Hirna ride-hailing app (stylized as hirna by the company). Corrales said the existing 700 taxi units from the newly formed Cagayan de Oro Taxi Operators Association will use hirna starting the second week of next month. It will simultaneously go live shortage/PAGE 11
