Briefly Consumer empowerment ILIGAN City -- Close to 200 individuals were educated on their fundamental rights and responsibilities as consumers including the best approach in handling consumer complaints. Pursuant to the Philippine Development Plan 20112016 which is to increase the level of awareness of consumers on their rights and responsibilities by 50-80%, the Department of Trade and Industry – Lanao del Norte (DTI-LDN) Provincial Office continues to empower consumers, this time, in hinterland barangays in Iligan City. Barangays Bunawan, Kabacsanan and Ditucalan in Iligan city, were the first communities in the mountainous areas in Iligan which responded to the call of DTI in empowering consumers, the seminar conducted in April 2016.
Consumer plaints BUTUAN City -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Caraga has partnered with the different business establishments in the region in the establishment of a Consumer Welfare Desk (CWD) to provide easy access for consumers’ queries and speedy complaints resolution. With the creation of CWD, complaints are now readily heard and resolved without going through the tedious litigation process. In Caraga, there are 171 recognized CWDs. Based on CWDs established procedure of addressing consumer complaints, it has resolved 1,856 cases with 145 still on process for the first quarter of 2016.

Drought-hit farmers get relief from govt By MARK FRANCISCO, Staff Writer
SIMULTANEOUS relief operations are being conducted in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) on Apr i l 1921, and April 28-30, in 13 municipalities in the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur. The beneficiary municipalities are the most affected by the El Niño phenomenon in the region, the ARMM government said in a statement.
“The focus of the regional government now is to provide their basic needs such as food, water, medicines, and seedlings,” ARMM Executive Secretary Laisa M. Alamia said in the statement. The Regional Planning and Development Office reported that 19,359 hectares planted to rice, corn and highvalue commercial crops in 84 municipalities in the region with 462,740 residents have relief/PAGE 11
