ALAYBALAY City, Bukidnon —To protect the public against unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer goods, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) conducted recently a ‘Consumers Protection Forum’ participated by managers and operators of shopping centers and malls, here.

Engr. Eric H. Bicar, consumer welfare division chief and product standards officer of DTI Region 10, enjoined business establishments in Bukidnon to abide by the Products Standard Law to assure the public of safety and quality of consumer products.

“DTI’s monitoring team will strictly implement the said law, especially this yuletide season, to assure the public of the consistency of standardized products,” he said.

ARMM to hold summit on education

DTI reminds consumers to become responsible buyers The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has reminded consumers to become responsible buyers, in line with the celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month, this October.

This reminder came from Delia M. Ayano, provincial director of DTI-

Misamis Occidental, who warned consumers against fake products sold in the market, during a recent press conference, in the city.

“This is because of the proliferation of goods, which do not reveal its origin and which could not be explained why it went

through the ports without legal documents,” she said.

She said consumers should not buy products that do not comply with the DTI requirement of the Import Compliance Certificate (ICC) sticker, for foreign goods, and Product See consumer, page B2

AYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya - A company that operates the Casecnan Multi-Purpose Ir r i g at i on and Powe r Project(CMIPP) has agreed to pay its Real Property Tax(RPT) delinquency to the provincial government amounting to more than P1.7 billion.

Rhoda Moreno, acting Nueva Vizcaya provincial treasurer, said an interim agreement was arrived at, and to be renewed after a series of consultations and dialogue between the provincial government, Casecnan Energy and Water Company(CEWC), National Irrigation Administration (NIA) and the Department of Finance(DOF).

agreement, CWEC is required to pay 25 percent of the balance retained and due after the expiration of the existing agreement amounting to more than P430 million and 50 percent down payment amounting to more than P646 million

by December 2014.

She also said that the 75 percent compromise payment to renew the agreement amounting to more than

P1.2 billion will be paid in eight quarterly installments from December 31, 2014 to September 30, 2016 amounting to more than P80 million per quarter.

Fifty percent of the more than P1.2 billion compromise payment to renew agreement will be shared by the provincial, municipal and barangay governments such as more than P258 million, more than P226 million

and more than P161 million, respectively, she said.

The remaining 50 percent allotted for Special Education Fund(SEF) will also be shared by the municipal government and the provincial government amounting to more than P323 million each.

CMIPP is a hydroelectric facility composed of two impounding dams and a power plant, connected by a

pair of 26-kilometer diversion tunnels.

It was constructed during the Ramos administration and has been in operation for the last 14 years diverting irrigation waters from Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino provinces for irrigation of farmlands and to augment the power requirements of Central Luzon.

The project siphons water particularly from the Taan and Casecnan rivers in Alfonso Castañeda through the said diversion tunnels to the Pantabangan Dam in Nueva Ecija.

There are at least 200,000 hectares of farmland in Central Luzon and the western part of Pangasinan that get irrigated by the CMIPP using the water sourced from the provinces of Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino. (PNA)

On Monday, Hataman led a delegation of government officials from Basilan province and DepEd-ARMM in an educational visit to the town of Malungon in Sarangani as part of ARMM’s plan to replicate the province’s best practices on education.

Hataman said they see education as a long term solution to the illiteracy and poverty problem besetting the region. “We will not stop banking on the education of the youth in the region.”

Advocates thank nat’l gov’t for concerns on children’s rights

ZAMIZ City – Childrens’ Advocates, here, have thanked the national government for its continued support to the concerns in making the children know their rights.

This message of thanks was expressed by the nongovernment organization (NGO), who rallied behind the city government in taking care of children who are left out to fend themselves in the streets, Irene Luansing, Sangguniang

Panglungsod member, and Chairperson of the Local Council for the Protection of Children (LCPC), said.

These NGO’s are the World Vision, Kahayag Incorporatied, Gitib Incorporated and the Freedom from Debt Coalition, who showed their support to the city government by participating in the Children’s Rights Awareness Walk, last Oct. 11.

This according to Ma. Eliza A. Pabillore, provincial director of Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Misamis Oriental during a Provincial Quiz Bee recently held in the city in celebration of the Consumer Welfare Month.

Perhaps no other institution has played as big a role in shaping Zamboanga City’s Christian Hispanic Heritage as Fort Pilar, and has made it the sole city in Asia that can rightfully lay claim to the moniker Latin City.

Started in 1635, it was built at the instance of Jesuit missionaries and Bishop Fray Pedro of Cebu to ward off Moro pirates. Originally called Real Fuerza de San Jose (Royal Fort of Saint Joseph), its cornerstone was laid by the Jesuit engineer Fray Melchor de Vera, on June 23, 1635 on orders of then Spanish Governor of the Philippines Juan Cerezo de Salamanca.
