MARAWI City - More than 300 conflict-affected families in 16 different barangays in Datu Piang town in Maguindanao will benefit from farm equipment provided by the Department of Social Welfare and Development-Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DSWD-ARMM) as part of its livelihood support under the Payapa at Masaganang Pamayanan (Pamana) program.

The agency distributed sets of farm equipment to 16 cooperatives with a combined worth of P4.8million. The set included a rice thresher, corn sheller, hand tractor (kuliglig) and floating tiller (bao-bao).

Ozamiz completes poverty-reduction projects O

ZAMIZ City, Misamis Occidental – The Poorest of the Poor Livelihood Program (PPLP) and the Hinterland Greening/Tree- Growing Program (HG/TGP), under the 2013 Bottoms-Up Budgeting (BUB) Planning Process in the city, have been 100 percent completed, as of August, this year.

Implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) at P1,400,000, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), at P500,000, the PPLP and HG/TGP, respectively,

are only two of 25 BUB poverty-reduction projects with a total amount of P30,000,000, intended for the city.

However, provincial director Sanivier G. Patoc of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), said the BUB has been renamed Grassroots Participatory Budgeting (GPB) and have been placed under the DILG, which does the monitoring of the projects.

Meanwhile, Jovencio P. Laranjo, GPB Coordinator, in his report to Patoc, said the projects of the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the 2013 BUB/GPB

in Ozamiz had the following status: Nutrition Support-Vegetable Seeds and Seedlings Dispersal, P100,000, about 95 percent completed; Vegetable Seeds, Plant Nursery, Banana Chipper, P400,000, about 85 percent distributed; and farm to market road (FMR) from barangay Stimson Abordo to Trigos, P5,000,000, about 48 percent completed.

Still in process were the documents for MultiPurpose Drying Pavement in barangay Calabayan, P200,000; FMR Trigos Section, P5,000,000; FMR Gingona Section, P5,000,000; Corn seller in barangays Sangay Dako and Manaka, P400,000;

Seaweeds Dispersal, P300,000; Seaweeds Stilt Dryer, P300,000; and Tilapia Hatchery, P300,000.

Likewise, projects for procurement included the Livestock Support Program, IP Goat Raising with Pasture Grass, P100,000; Swine/Poultr y Dispersal, P900,000; Veterinary Products, P250,000; projects for bidding -- small diversion irrigation dam, P1,000,000; and mechanical dryer, P500,000; for verification -- fish cages, P500,000; and organic fertilizer production, no funds released yet.

Each SWEEP partnerschool may submit up to 10 entries for the SWEEP Awards. Just like in previous years, entries will go

through a rigorous fivestep screening process of online registration, project concept video presentation, validation, bootcamp, and final judging.

The grand champion will win a cash prize of P500,000, while the second- and thirdplacers will win P200,000, and P100,000, respectively.

Equivalent amounts in the form of grants will also be given to the schools of the winning teams.

Consumer Rights and Responsibilities, Consumer Act of the Philippines and other Fair Trade Laws.

Also included in the presentations were topics on Insights on Handling Complaints, Consumer Welfare Desk Operations, Bagwis Program and the Provision of Quality Frontline Service for customers’ delight.

mechanism which addresses consumer complaints at the level of the business establishment without going through the tedious mediation process at appropriate government agency. Order No. 18-A or the Contracting/Sub-Contracting ruling, Workers Organization Development Program (for organized establishments), other labor relations programs, and statutory benefits according to the law.

One question raised in the open forum was regarding the contracting rates of the security guards.

According to Rosalino Pesidas, operations manager of Sultan Security Agency,

that the Philippine Association of Detective and Protective Agency Operators (PADPAO), a group of private security agencies, has rates that they should follow which may not fall with the minimum wage.

There is also the client’s rate which they have to consider, Pesidas added.

Cagas explained, “DOLE will not interfere with your business affairs. If you accept the contract with a client which gives a rate

falling below the minimum rate which is P306.00, that is already your discretion but it will not excuse you to follow the DOLE mandated wage.”

In closing, DOLE-X OIC-assistant regional director Rodrigo Deloso motivated the participants.

“You take care of your current job now. If you love your job, then give your best on your job. We have to make both our internal and external customers happy,

Coco farmers in Davao region want community-based processing hub

AVAO City - Coconut farmers in the region are asking for the establishment of a community-based coconut processing hub so that profits from the sales of coconut products and by-products would reach them, an official of an advocacy group said.

In an interview Monday at the sidelines of the weekly Kapehan sa SM, Kilos Magniniyog national coordinator Socrates Banzuela said it was not the farmers who benefited from the sale of the coconut products, but the millers and landowners.

He said the processing hub would handle an average of 5,000 coconuts every day, with a cluster of barangays running it together.

The hub would integrate the processing of the co-

conuts for juice, oil, milk, cheese, and catsup, among other products.

“We want to explore and develop the industries

on a pilot basis,” he said.

“Sayang ang market.”

He said coconut farmers were getting no immediate incentive from the govern-

ment despite claims by agencies like the Philippine Coconut Authority and the Department of Agriculture that coconut has a high

demand abroad.
