Briefly ‘No sabotage’ THE contractor in the collection of garbage in Cagayan de Oro City has belied accusations it planned to sabotage garbage collection here to discredit the incumbent administration. Rolando Ramos, owner of “Basura at Iba, Inc., a garbage collection firm, accused Mayor Oscar Moreno of creating a scenario to justify the city’s move to rescind the garbage collection contract signed between the city and BAI during the previous administration. “I and my firm are not in the position to sabotage anybody, much more, the city mayor of Cagayan de Oro City,” Ramos said in a statement to the local press.

NGO accreditation DAVAO City -- The Coalition of Development NGO Networks (CODENGO) is pushing for the accreditation of all nongovernment agencies (NGOs) even as it urged government to deal only with NGOs certified by the Philippine Council for NGO Certification (PCNC) to avoid the present pork barrelNGO fiasco. “It is difficult to pass the certification of PCNC but once you have been certified it is enough proof that the dealings of such NGO are above-board,” CODE-NGO chairperson Andrea Maria Patricia M. Sarenas said. Intensified actions vs banana pests pushed I

N a bid to meet the growing demand for higher quality products in the international market, major players in the banana industry in Mindanao are pushing for intensified actions against diseases affecting banana production.

In a resolution adopted during the recent Mindanao Export Congress, they noted that infestation of various diseases such as fusarium wilt and black sigatoka affect the overall quality of their

banana output, thus lowering their profits as well. To address this issue on such diseases, the Mindanao ex por ters sa id t hat t he Department of Agriculture (DA) should streng then
