Briefly R-10 energy sales NORTHERN Mindanao has consumed a total of 728,672,057 kilowatt per hour (kwh) of electricity during the first quarter of the year. This is actually higher by 0.49 percent over the 725,139,405 kwh. of energy sold to the region in the same period of 2012, Engr. Leon M. Dacanay, Regional Director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), region 10, said. Gathered from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the NEDA data also show that among the five provinces of region 10, Misamis Oriental, continued to be the biggest energy consumer of the region with its energy sales of 498,396,217 kwh., during the period.

HE continued armed rebellion and the lack of vital infrastructures remain the major factors why the quality of life in nine Mindanao provinces is still the country’s worst.
T he United Nat ion’s Philippine Human Development Report said t hat t his indicates t hat conf lict and poverty were
intertwined in Asia’s fastest growing economy. In its latest report, most of the 10 lowest-ranked provinces in the Philippines
are conflict-ridden. Sulu scored the lowest, with a human development i nd e x (H DI) of 0 . 216 , followed by Maguindanao, 0.300; Tawi-Tawi, 0.310; Zamboanga, 0.353; Agusan d e l S u r, 0 . 35 4 ; D av a o Oriental, 0.356; Sarangani, 0.371; Zamboanga del Norte, 0.384; and Lanao del Sur, 0.416. Green summit THE Climate Change Commission has set the ‘Greeneration’ Summit on August 2 at the Capitol University here. S e c r et ar y Lu c i l l e L . Sering said this summit fo c u s e s o n i nfo r m at i o n dissemination on climate change and its effects. “Part of the effort is to avoid seeing loss of lives especially with what happened in typhoon ‘Sendong’.” According to a Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey on climate change for the first quarter of this year here in the country, 63 percent said they did not do anything to reduce climate change in the past three years. Sering said, “This is a substantial percentage, it’s either they don’t know what to do or they don’t care.”

Oro businessmen urged to be extra careful THE influential Oro Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation, Inc. (Oro Chamber) on Tuesday warned its members to be extra careful while the suspect in the bombing incident at the Limketkai Complex here on Friday remains at large. In a memorandum circulated to Oro Chamber members Monday night,
chamber president Efren Uy said “we would like to encourage everyone not to frequent crowded areas while the perpetrators are still at large.” Uy also encouraged those who witnessed the Friday bomb explosion to cooperate with the local police and to help law enforcers speed up in the
investigation. He said the innocent victims of the Friday bomb explosion and the people of Cagayan de Oro want the criminals to be brought to the bar of justice. In the same memorandum, Uy exhorted Oro Chamber members to offer a silent prayer to all those who perished in the tragic incident. (PNA)
