DOST releases P2-M for dairy processing plant

MAMBAJAO, Camiguin – Close to P2M technology assistance was turned over by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) to the province of Camiguin as support to the establishment of a dairy processing plant.

This is under DOST’s Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program

DTI-MisOr holds consumer inf campaign in Cag. de Oro CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Misamis Oriental led the conduct of consumer information education campaign (IEC) on 28 July 2016 in Cagayan de Oro City together with front line national government agencies as well as its local counterparts in the city to encourage consumers to assert their right and also tap government agencies in case of complaints so that businesses can comply with requirements of the law.

DTI launches second NegoCenter in Camiguin MAMBAJAO, Camiguin -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched its second Negosyo Center (NC) in the province, earlier.

The center, a facility that aims to promote ease of doing business and facilitate access to services for Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) within the area, is housed inside the Mahinog Municipal Hall.

SSS initiatives for social protection of ISGs show higher coverage and collections The Social Security System (SSS) has intensified its campaign to extend social protection to informal sector workers, particularly through its partnership initiatives such as the AlkanSSSya Program which has registered over 120,000 members and collected over P300 million in contributions to date.

SSS Assistant Vice President for Cooperatives and Informal Sector Department Ma. Nympha M. Ragel said that a total of 1,348 informal sector groups (ISGs) are covered by the AlkanSSSya Program by the end of March this year, 24 percent higher than the total of 1,091 participating ISGs exactly a year earlier.

“Within one year, total contribution collections under the AlkanSSSya Program nearly doubled from

P159.02 million by the end of the first quarter last year to P310.86 million as of March this year, reflecting an increase of 95 percent,” Ragel said.

Launched in 2012, the AlkanSSSya Program is a microsavings scheme which enables informal sector workers to complete their monthly contribution of P330 with as little as P11 per day. Each participating ISG has at least one AlkanSSSya unit, which contains secure individual compartments that store the members’ personal SSS savings until their scheduled monthly counting and remittance to SSS. “With the AlkanSSSya, SSS can collectively cover informal sector workers by partnering with ISGs instead of going after them on an individual basis. This

arrangement has attracted a wide range of informal sector workers such as tricycle and jeepney drivers and operators, market vendors, golf caddies, garbage recyclers, farmers and fisherfolk,” Ragel said.

Meanwhile, the SSS also tapped cooperatives and microfinance institutions (MFIs) in reaching out to the informal sector by authorizing them to provide various SSS services for their own members and clients under the SSS Partner Accreditation (PA) Program, which started in 2012.

Servicing partner agents are tasked to receive members’ applications such as SSS registration, salary loans and funeral benefits while collecting partner agents are authorized to collect SSS contributions, loan amortizations and other

miscellaneous payments.

“Currently, SSS has accredited a total of 27 organizations -- four of which are servicing PAs, another six are collecting PAs, and 17 are both collecting and non-collecting PAs. As SSS partners, they are invaluable channels of social protection for their respective organizations and communities,” Ragel said.

The number of transactions coursed through SSS servicing partner agents grew by 62 percent from 18,473 as of March 2015 to 29,892 as of March 2016. For the same period, collections

by SSS partner agents surged by 237 percent from P11.46 million to P38.60 million.

Last 2013, Super Typhoon Yolanda greatly damaged several regions of the Philippines including the Island of Gibusong in Brgy. Magsaysay. After the typhoon surge, the Magsaysay Women-SLP association agreed to initiate a Mangrove Reforestation project to at least reduce possible destruction in times of disaster.

He said there are already recorded fire incidents in Davao City due to use of butane canisters.

Moreover, Derla shared that together with the police they have recently busted and confiscated an illegal refilling station in Bukidnon recently. Derla said only certified companies can refill even Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). He says consumers must be cautious in buying these products and inspect if they are safe to use.

GSIS earmarks Php564M in emergency loan for 9 more Mindanao areas

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) set aside a total of Php563.6 million in emergency loan for its active members and old-age pensioners in nine more areas in Mindanao that were affected by El Niño.

Eligible to apply for the loan until July 31, 2016 are qualified members and pensioners in Iligan City in Lanao del Norte; Claveria in Misamis Oriental; Tudela and Bonifacio in Misamis Occidental; Kabasalan and Alicia in Zamboanga Sibugay; and Guipos and Kumalarang in Zamboanga del Sur. Those in El Salvador City in Misamis Oriental may avail of the loan until August 9, 2016.

A total of 17,597 active members are eligible to apply if they are working or residing in the calamitydeclared areas, are not on leave of absence without pay, and have no arrears in paying premium

contributions in the last six months.

First-time borrowers may apply for a Php20,000 emergency loan. Those who have an existing emergency loan are entitled to Php40,000, from which their outstanding loan balance will be deducted.

A total of 2,731 old-age pensioners residing in the said areas may borrow Php20,000. If they are also active members for having been reemployed in the government service, they may borrow only once.

The loan is payable in 36 equal monthly instalments at 6 percent interest rate per annum computed in advance. It is covered by a loan redemption insurance, which deems the loan fully paid in case of the borrower’s demise, provided that loan repayment is up to date.

Active old-age pensioners must personally submit to the GSIS a fully accomplished emergency loan application form to apply for the loan.

Loan proceeds are electronically credited to the borrowers’ GSIS electronic card (ecard) or Unified Multipurpose Identification (UMID) card.
