Mayor names solon as behind Sunday raid By GERRY LEE GORIT Correspondent
CAGAYAN de Oro City-Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog Sr. yesterday did not hesitate in naming Rep. Henry Oaminal as the alleged culprit why authorities raided over a dozen of houses in Ozamiz City on Sunday. Parojinog also blamed Oaminal and a high ranking police official why his
name was included in President Rodrigo Duterte’s list. Oaminal neither confirm nor deny this. He said the raid on Sunday and the issue on the alleged illegal drugs linking his name were allegedly the handiwork of the lawmaker, who is representing the second district of Misamis Occidental to the House of the Representatives. Youth groups ask senators not to defer SK elections
THE progressive group Akbayan Youth and other youth leaders yesterday called on senators not to postpone the scheduled elections for barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan officials. In a press statement, the youth group said the senate committee of local government recommended in their committee report to postpone the SK elections to October 30, 2017. “A third postponement of the SK polls sends a dangerous message that youth participation is optional. We hope our legislators do not mean to disenfranchise the youth once again and instead heed our call not to delay the SK elections,” said Ellah Delerio from the SK Reform Coalition. The postponement is de facto abolition of the youth institution, the press statement read. Angara files bill deferring barangay, SK elections SENATOR Sonny Angara on Tuesday sponsored the bill seeking a one-year postponement of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections originally scheduled on October 31. Angara, chairman of the Senate committee on
local government, said the postponement will allow more time for the full implementation of the recently enacted SK Reform Act or Republic Act 10742. “We clearly hear the voices of those who are against the proposal. Naiintindihan
speech of Senate Bill 1112. The SK reform was signed into law in January, and its implementing rules and regulations were approved only in July. One of the salient provisions of the law is the mandatory training of SK
officials before they formally assume office. However, the senator pointed out that there are no funds available yet for the mandatory training, which is worth P50 million, and at the same time, See ELECTIONS, page A7
