RI District 3870 governor addresses Zone 1 clubs By MARK FRANCISCO Staff writer
NEWLY installed Rotary International District 3870 Governor Miriam Ruth dela Calzada will address all Zone 1 clubs this Sunday at Pryce Plaza Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City. Banking on Rotary’s call of serving humanity, the Council of Presidents of RI District 3870 Zone 1 cordially invite all Rotarians and Rotaractors belonging to Zone 1 clubs for the Governor’s Address at 6:30 p.m. on that day at the Ballroom of the hotel. Participants will be welcomed by Dufel Lagrosas,
chair of the Zone 1 Council of Presidents who belongs to RC Cagayan de Oro followed by dela Calzada’s address. GIVING more was the overall message of the Rotary International District 3870 ably attended by hundreds of members from the various clubs of the district last August 6 at Grand Caprice Restaurant in Cagayan de Oro City. RRFC Jess Nicdao disclosed that the people of Nepal sent their message of gratitude to Rotary International District 3870 after they were able to build shelters using the thousands of dollars donated by the district in the aftermath of the April 2015 earthquake that hit the country. L ast August 13, 2016 around one thousand five hundred mangrove propagules were planted by the Rotarians of the Rotary Club of Carmen Valley together with Rotary Club partners and stakeholders along the shore of the known Boardwalk Mangrove Eco Park of Barangay Baybay, Alubijid, Misamis Oriental. Along with the planting of mangrove propagules was the distribution of more than two hundred laton containers which benefited more than a hundred beneficiaries of the barangay for containing potable water and daily water usage of the residents. The worthwhile project: Mangrove propagules planting and laton distribution was under the baton of the
dynamic and unstoppable All Star President Susan Lonkey assisted by debonaire and active Assistant Governor Toni Estrella. This project is now on its second year for shore line environmental protection which was initiated by Immediate Past President Joyce Ortezuela Libot and Vice President Ed Cuaresma. The propagules was donated by the Barangay Council of Baybay, Alubiid, Misamis Oriental led by Barangay Captain Leonardo Suizo. The hundreds of Laton containers were donated by VJANDEP through the kind effort and facilitation of Rotarian Maricar Jaruda.
