CEB announces direct flights between Kalibo and Incheon Offers P1999 all-in introductory seat sale

In John9:1-2-there is really “physically blind” but on the other side, there is also “blind spiritually.”

In Mark 8:17-when Jesus knew [it], he said unto them, why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet

In Hebrews 12:2-looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Look at Jesus Christ in your hearts since He

is dwelling but not yet recognized. Before you can reach the eternal life; you need first to settle everything on this earth. You need to reconcile to your enemies because if not; you cannot taste the goodness they have also in their lives.

You need to practice in doing the right thing consistently because this will become the basis of God in judging

The Effective Equation in Human Relation

Teamwork is one of the core behavioural competencies in the new DepED RPMS Form for teachers. Among the five components of teamwork one of it states that, “applies negotiation principles in arriving at win-win agreements”. This new paradigm of gauging teaching performance is broad and conclusive. If not specified and chopped up into minor details, this might tempt the rater and ratee to mark score from random estimation or a “go-between” agreement.

To avoid bias and prejudice in rating, it is suggested that a right consideration toward this matter is very important.

What is win-win agreement? What are the possible variable relationships and variable situations to be illustrated as an example to present substantial explanation about this phrase “win-win agreement”?

The book entitled, “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”, authored by Stephen R. Covey and the online article entitled “Negotiation Conflict Styles” contributed by Calum Coburn, present paradigms of human interaction. These are “lose/lose”, “lose/win”, “win/lose”, and “win/win” paradigms. To subsume these key terms, let us expound each of them. Since these involve relationship, I employed mathematical equation to get the logical output of assessment.

Lose/Lose Equation (Avoidance) 0/0=0 This is most often referred to as “passive aggressive”. People who habitually use this style really dislikes conflict. Rather than talk directly with you about the issue, avoid styles may instead try to take revenge without you knowing about it. The avoid style can be a typical reaction to high compete negotiator.

“Lose/Lose is also a philosophy of the highly dependent person without inner direction who is miserable and thinks everyone else should be, too. If nobody ever wins, perhaps being loser isn’t so bad.”

Lose/Win Equation (Accommodating) 0/1=0 This is opposite to competing. For accommodating style negotiators, the relationship is everything. Accommodating profiles think that the route to winning people over is to give them what they want.

They don’t just give products and services, they are generous with

information too. Accommodators are usually very well liked by their colleagues and opposite party negotiators.

Lose/Win Equation has no standards, no demands, no expectation, no vision. People who think Lose/Win are usually quick to please or appease. They seek strength from the popularity or acceptance. They have little courage to express their own feelings and convictions and are easily intimidated by ego strengths of others. Win/Lose people love Lose/Win people because they can be feed on them. They love their weaknesses, they take advantage of them. Such weaknesses complement their strengths.

In negative sense, Lose/Win people bury a lot of feelings. And unexpressed feelings never die: they’re buried alive and come forth later in uglier ways. Psychosomatic illnesses, particularly of the respiratory, nervous, and circulatory systems often are the reincarnation of cumulative resentment, deep disappointment and disillusionment repressed by the Lose/Win mentality. Disproportionate rage or anger, overreaction to minor provocation, and cynicism are other embodiments of suppressed emotion.

People who are constantly repressing, not transcending feeling towards a higher meaning find it affects the quality of their selfesteem and eventually the quality of their relationship to others.

Win/Lose Equation (Competing) 1/0=0 Competitive style negotiators pursue their own needs- yes, even when this means others suffer. They usually don’t want to cause others to suffer and lose, they are just so narrowly focused on their shorter term gains that they plunder obliviously through negotiation like a pirate. They often use whatever power and tactics they can muster, including their personality, position, economics threats, brand strength or size or market share.

Win/Lose is the authoritarian approach: “I get my way: you don’t get yours.” Win/Lose people are prone to use position, power, credentials, possessions, or personality to get their way.

Win/Win Equation (Collaborating) 1/1=1 Win/Win is about making sure both parties have their needs met, and as much mutual value as can be created is created. Collaborative profile negotiators are adamant that their needs must be met- and they acknowledge that the other party has needs that must be met too. Collaborative negotiators are willing to invest more time and

energy in finding innovative solutions, feeling secure in the fact that there will be more value to share out later on.

Win/Win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Win/Win means that agreements or solutions are mutually beneficial, mutually satisfying. With a Win/Win solution, all parties feel good about the decision and feel committed to the action plan. Win/Win sees life as a cooperative, not a competitive arena.

Which option is best?

Most situations, in fact, are part of an interdependent reality, and then Win/Win is really the only viable alternative.

Win/Lose is not viable because, although I appear to win in confrontation with you, your feelings, your attitudes toward me and our relationship have been affected. If I am a supplier to your company, for example, and I win on my terms in a particular negotiation, I may get what I want now. But will you come to me again? My shortterm Win will really be a long-term Lose if I don’t get your repeat business. So an interdependent Win/Lose is really Lose/Lose in the long run.

If we come up with a Lose/Win, you may appear to get what you want for the moment. But how will that affect my attitude about working with you, your fulfilling contract? I may not feel as anxious to please you. I may carry battle scars with me into any future negotiations. My attitude about you and your company may be spread as I associate with others in the industry. So we’re into Lose/Lose again. Lose/Lose obviously isn’t viable in any context.

And if I focus on my own Win and don’t even consider your point of view, there’s no basis for any kind of productive relationship.

In the long run, if it isn’t win for both of us, we both lose. That’s why Win/Win is the only real alternative in interdependent realities.

Note: The data of this table is only an example to present the context in a simple form. The variables are subject to change depending on the actual relationship and situation.

Summing up!

Giving value to the results of the four equations, zero “0” would mean nothing, losing, a deficit. While one “1” is something, it gets a point, a gain! Of these four paradigms of human interactions only Win/Win equation is convincing. Be a Win/Win negotiator.

During the press conference, PSA Regional Director Eddie Nasol said Northern Mindanao’s economy grew at a slower pace from 7.1 percent in 2014 to 5.5 percent in 2015.

The deceleration was due to th slowdown in the Industry and Services sectors.

Services decelerated from 8.3 percent in 2014 to 7.4 percent in 2015. Trade and Repair, which accounted for the biggest share in the total ourput of Services, decelerated from 10.2 percent to 6.6 percent. Moreover, Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities improved from 7.7 percent to 11.3 percent.

Similarly, TCS and Financial Intermidiation posted faster growths in 2015 from 4.6 percent to 8.7 and from 6.7 percent to 6.9 percent, respectively.

Industry also slowed down from 8.5 percent in 2014 to 4.3 percent in 2015 since all of its sub-industries posted decelerated growths.

Manufacturing, which accounted for the biggest chunck of the total output in the Industry sector, decelerated from 5.8 percent to 3.2 percent.

Construction also slowed down from 26.2 percent to 10.8 percent. And so with Mining and Quarrying, which decelerated from 16.7 percent to 15.2 percent.

EGWS showed a steady decline of 0.1 percent due to the drop of power generation of the hydroelectric plants.

Services was the largest contributor to the economic growth of Northern Mindanao in 2015, contributing 3.1 percentage points to the total 5.5 percent economic growth. Industry and AHFF contributed 1.5 and 0.9 percentage points, respectively.

Among the sub-industries, the top three contributors to the region’s economic growth were Trqade with 1.0 percentage point; Other Services with 0.9 percentage point and construction with 0.8 percentage point.

The newly opened school buildings -- for the Imbatug Central Elementary School in Baungon and the Impasug-ong Central Elementary School in Impasug-ong -- were formally turned over to the Department of Education during simple ceremonies held at the respective schools on

July 26 and 27, 2016.

Designed by third-party experts, the typhoon- or calamity-resilient classrooms can withstand wind velocity of up to 250 kilometers per hour. The buildings feature cathedral-type ceilings, wider windows insulated roofing for better ventilation, concave-design blackboards, wall-mounted electric fans, LED lights, “genderized” comfort rooms and access for persons with disabilities.

The school buildings were turned over to the DepEd, complete with chairs and tables. Each building houses two classrooms with each classroom accommodating up to 60 students or a total of 240 students for both school buildings.

First Gen, through EDC, arranged and solicited funds for the projects from sister companies and affiliates.

With EDC as project manager, the school rebuilding program was launched in early 2014 to help in the rehabilitation, originally, of areas hit by super typhoon Yolanda.

The program’s scope was later expanded to help alleviate an overall shortage in classrooms in the provinces.

Once completed in late 2016, the overall program calls for the construction of 150 school rooms in 66 school buildings in 30 cities and municipalities in 11 provinces, including Bukidnon.

For the Bukidnon schools, funds were donated by Rockwell Land Corporation, a First Gen sister company that is acknowledged as the country’s foremost developer of luxurious real estate projects.

“First Gen arranged the support for the Bukidnon schools as part of its commitment to be a responsible development partner for the host communities of its power plants, as well as a conscientious custodian of the environment,” said Dennis P. Gonzales First Gen vice president and head of hydro group.

First Gen has an existing project in Mindanao – the 1.6-megawatt Agusan mini-hydro in Manolo Fortich also in Bukidnon.

It has lined up three more power plant projects --all run-of-river facilities

– to help meet Mindanao’s growing demand for electricity. These include the 32-MW Bubunawan hydro project in Baungon, to be undertaken through First Gen subsidiary FGen Bubunawan Hydro Corporation.

In talks with Mindanao stakeholders, Gonzales stressed the low carbon emissions of First Gen’s power facilities. “All First Gen power plants run on clean or renewable energy sources with minimal -- if not zero -- carbon emission.

Aside from hydro, these plants run on wind solar, geothermal, and natural gas, the cleanest form of fossil fuel,” Gonzales pointed out.

The Bubunawan project will cost at least US$100 million and employ around 500 people during its construction. In hiring workers, FGen Bubunawan is prioritizing qualified residents from the host community.

Within Bukidnon, First Gen is also constructing the 40-MW Tagoloan run-ofriver hydroelectric power plant in Impasug-ong. First Gen is finalizing technical, financial and environmental studies to achieve optimum capacity for the Tagoloan project.

Gonzales also highlighted the economic benefits of

having the hydro facilities.

“Mindanao suffers from recurring outages due to lack of adequate supply.

Additional electricity supply from the First Gen hydro plants will entice the entry of much-needed investments that will, in turn, open up more employment and livelihood opportunities in Mindanao,” Gonzales added.

Local government units (LGUs) in Bukidnon will also benefit from local taxes and fees that the First Gen hydro project companies will remit to the province of Bukidnon and to the host municipalities.

The LGUs will also earn from their share of revenues that the First Gen will set aside in compliance with the implementing rules and regulations of the Electric Power Industry Reform Act (EPIRA) of 2001 and with Energy Regulations No. 1-94 (ER 1-94) of the Department of Energy (DOE).

ER 1-94 requires power generation companies to set

aside Php0.01 per kilowatthour of their total electricity sales as financial benefits to their host communities.

Department of Trade and Industry-International Export Marketing Bureau Director Senen Perlada said the volume of export on coconut products has increased tremendously as reflected in the figures in 2000 of only 2.7 million dollars to 62 million dollars in 2014.

Economy B8 ZamPen’s economy further accelerates Monday, August 1, 2016

ZAMBOANGA CITY -Zamboanga Peninsula’s economy accelerated from 6.6 percent in 2014 to 7.2 percent in 2015.

This was brought about by the expanded growths in all major industries of the region.

Services remained to account for the largest share of the region’s economy although its share decreased from 43.1 percent in 2014 to 42.4 percent in 2015. Mean-

while, the shares of Industry and Agriculture, Hunting, Forestry and Fishing (AHFF) to the local domestic output were 37.8 percent and 19.8 percent, respectively.

Services grew from 5.6 percent in 2014 to 5.7 percent in 2015. This was largely due to the higher growth in Financial Intermediation (FI), Real Estate, Renting and Business Activities (RERBA) and Other Services (OS). FI accelerated from 5.9 percent

to 7.2 percent, RERBA from 5.1 percent to 5.8 percent, and OS from 3.2 percent to 4.5 percent. On the other hand, slower growth rates in 2015 as compared to 2014 were recorded on Trade and Repair, from 6.8 percent to 6.4 percent; and Public Administration and Defense (PAD), from 5.1 percent to 2.0 percent. Meanwhile, Transportation, Storage and Communication’s (TSC) growth remained at 8.0 per-

cent.

Industry accelerated from 10.3 percent in 2014 to 12.1 percent in 2015 due to the higher growth in Construction. Accounting 10.3 percent of the region’s total economy, Construction accelerated from 19.6 percent in 2014 to 47.7 percent in 2015. Likewise, Electricity, Gas and Water Supply (EGWS) accelerated from 3.8 percent in 2014 to 5.9 percent in 2015.

Typhoon-resilient schools for Bukidnon from First Gen, sister companies. This typhoon-resilient school building at the Imbatug Central Elementary School in Baungon can withstand wind velocity of up to 250 kilometers per hour. First Gen, through subsidiary Energy Development Corporation (EDC), arranged and solicited funds from sister companies and affiliates for the construction of two typhoon-resilient school buildings for host communities of its planned hydroelectric power plants in Bukidnon. With EDC as project manager, the school rebuilding program was launched in early 2014, originally, to help in the rehabilitation of areas hit by super typhoon Yolanda. The project was later expanded to other provinces, including Bukidnon, to help alleviate an overall classroom shortage in the provinces.

Coco producer urges stakeholders to make coconut production sustainable DAVAO CITY -- A coconut producer has asked stakeholders to plant more trees and makes the industry sustainable to address demand in the future.

Asia Pacific Coconut Community (APCC) Executive Director Uron Salum has voiced concern that the industry will face shortage of products 20 years from now.

He said that in order to achieve sustainability there must be planting of new trees, as he urged to look into the different coco by-products.

Speaking at the ongoing three-day International Coconut Conference held at SMX Convention here, Salum said demand for coconut products in the world market is growing high.

He also said that farmers must know that in order

to produce good yield per tree, only original seedlings must be planted and not the second generation fruit.

In Malaysia, he said the propagation of mother plants is run by millions with the volume of orders from the different regions.

He said the role of the APCC is to support the different member countries by promoting, coordinating and harmonizing all activities of the coconut industry that promote sustainability and help improve the lives of small farmers engaged in coconut production, processing, and marketing.

“The APCC aims to improve the socio-economic conditions of all stakeholders of the industry in the member countries, particularly the small coconut farmers,” he said.

He said several countries are already into producing other products aside from copra but he cautioned that inorder to produce quality products it must be complemented with good equipment.

Meanwhile, Fakih N.P., President, Fakih Group of Companies, said his business is on handicraft and right now he partners with producers in four countries.

He said that of the 1,300 crafts that can be produced only 200 products are sourced by his company from the Philippines.

Fakih said the need is big especially in the Middle East with the requirements of 15,000 hotels or over 100,000 rooms to fix from lamp shades to wall or floor designs out of coco shells.

Meanwhile, Manufacturing slowed down from 9.8 percent in 2014 to 3.1 percent in 2015. Mining and Quarantine (MAQ) improved but still negative from negative 36.4 percent in 2014 to negative 18.9 percent in 2015.

Growth in the AHFF decelerated from 2.9 percent in 2014 to 2.0 percent in 2015. Agriculture and Forestry, which accounted for 13.3 percent of the region’s domestic output, decelerated

from 3.0 percent in 2014 to 2.2 percent in 2015. Moreover, Fishing decelerated from 2.6 percent in 2014 to 1.5 percent in 2015.

Industry contributed the largest to Zamboanga Peninsula’s 7.2 percent economic growth in 2015 with 4.4 percentage points. Service contributed 2.5 percentage points while AHFF contributed 0.4 percentage point to the region’s total economic growth. (PNA)

DAVAO CITY -- An enabling law that will ensure the establishment of a National Banana Industry Council is needed to further boost the banana industry in the country.

Philippine Exporters Confereration, Inc. in Davao region (Philexport-11) executive director Edwin Sotto said that alongside with the institutionalization of the banana council is the creation of a banana research center that will be established in Mindanao.

“We have laws, councils and research centers created for other major crops in the country but there is nothing on the banana industry,” Sotto said.

Banana, he added, is the top grossing export commodity of the Philippines and runs along with other crops such as pineapple in bringing dollars into the country.

Sotto said the call for the creation of a banana industry council and research center will be part of the legislative agenda in the upcoming Banana Congress 2016 slated on October 6-8, 2016 at the SMX Convention Center in Davao City.

Among the expected guests of honor during the convention will be President Rodrigo Duterte while Department of Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol will be one of the guest speakers during the three-day convention.

Sotto said that aside from pushing for the creation of the council and research center, the banana congress will also gather government and private sector policy makers, business people, technocrats, farmers and stakeholders to discuss

solutions and initiatives in order to address every challenge that affects the banana industry in the country.

The event will also serve as venue for the participants to share information on best practices in pests and disease management, value chain development, technology updates, maximizing benefits from trade and tariff agreements and market standards compliance.

Sotto said the gathering will also provide banana industry players with the opportunity to strengthen the industry.

T h e c on g re s s w i l l feature plenary session tracts on the local banana industry roadmap, challenges on the Cavendish banana industry, global good agricultural practices on bananas, and on the advanced technologies on banana disease control and management.

He said the 2016 banana congress will further boost the banana industry – it being one of the top dollar earning export commodities of the Philippines for years.

Data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said that earnings in the export of Cavendish bananas in 2014 increased to 18.06 percent, or 1.136 billion dollars compared to 962.58 billion dollars earnings in 2013.

Around 441,951 hectares of agricultural lands in the Philippines are devoted to bananas of which, 243,450 hectares are located in Mindanao.

PSA data added that Cavendish for export accounts for 34 percent or 83,843 hectares of the total areas planted to bananas in the country. (PNA)
