ITH the theme Shaping Criminology Students for a Better Future, the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP) holds the 3rd National Criminology Students Congress starting today until Sunday at Capitol University in Cagayan de Oro City.

There will be many activities slated in the threeday event with an opening program at 1:00 p.m.

Key local stakeholders in the criminology profession will welcome the delegates during the first day of the event led by president of host Capitol University, Atty.

The opening program will immediately be succeeded with a debate among criminology students at Capitol University Gymnatorium, a karate tournament

Allowing your children to participate in youth sports is a fantastic way for children to explore and develop lifelong skills. Youth sports not only play an important role in exercise, but promote mental and psychological advances as well. It is well-known that children who participate in sports are less likely to drop out of school and became involved in drugs and alcohol activity, while they also excel in academic performances and sociability.

Recently the Bonifacio National High School is celebrating its Intramurals Day. It started with a parade by the different teams namely; Green Vipers for the freshmen Team; Yellow Cats for the Sophies Team; Blue Eagles for the Juniors Team; Red Dragons for the Seniors Team and Black Scorpions for the Grade 11. One of the highlights is the Saludo competitions where they perform their abilities in creating the concepts of salutation or showing respect to the audience where the Blue Eagles got the champion. After the saludo, the opening program follows. The preliminaries was conducted by the SPA music with the specialist Mrs. Jane Marie A. Sumicad, conducting.

One athlete representative in each team leads the lighting of the urn where it represents the fire in playing the games. The principal, Mrs. Nimfa P. Lagoy, leads the hoisting of School banner with the Head Teacher-III, Mrs. Juliet S. Lapiz. It follows the hoisting of the team banner with their Team Advisers and the athletic Manager. Mis Mary Grace Lobedica, grade 11 student and Mrs. Miretes D. Rodriguez, PESS Coordinator, leads the oath of amateurism and officiating official’s pledge respectively. It follows the guidelines and mechanics of the conduct of 2016 Intramurals by the PESS Coordinator, Mrs. Miretes D. Rodriguez. After this, the official proclamation of the 2016 Intramurals by the school principal, Mrs. Nimfa P. Lagoy.

SURIGAO City -- “It’s all systems go,” bared Concepcion Pacqueo, president of Surigao Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and conference director of this year’s Mindanao Business Conference (MinBizCon).

The event, which is set on Aug. 24-26 at the Philippine Gateway Hotel, this city is anchored on the theme, “Mindanao: ASEAN’s Emerging Economic Hub.” The said event is the biggest annual gathering of business leaders, policymakers, exporters, traders, and exhibitors in the island-region.

Paqueo said around 500 individuals have already confirmed their participation and they are still counting up to 800 participants from different regions in Mindanao and some in Luzon, Visayas and even foreign businessmen.

Meanwhile, essays are judged according to creativity, structure and composition, grammar construction and style, adherence to topic and exceptional use of words and vocabulary.

Day 2 sees a pistol marksmanship competition at NMPSA Firing Range, a criminological research presentation at Capitol University AVR 7, a quiz bee at Capitol University Multipurpose Hall and an oratorical speech competition at Capitol University Multipurpose Hall.

Quiz bee covers all fields in criminalistics and criminal law and jurisprudence.

ity, coherence), delivery (quality of voice, diction, fluency/mastery of speech, pronunciation and grammar) and stage presence (stage poise, gestures and appropriate use of stage).

During Day 2, there will also be a search for the top ten outstanding criminology students of the Philippines.

Nominees, which were vetted previously before the event, will be judged according to leadership and social responsibility. Names of the adjudged students will be announced during the closing program on Sunday afternoon.

There will also be a silent drill competition on Sunday morning at 4th Infantry Division headquarters at Camp Evangelista in Cagayan de Oro City.

Participating team schools must have a minimum of 20 men. Drill must not be less than five minutes and must not exceed 25 minutes. The following are the criteria for judging – showmanship, precision (teamwork, timing, mastery) and audience impact.

“Kumbira is always participated by so many hotels and restaurants. I found out that the winners declared are very much evaluated by a professional board of judges with COHARA’s firm rules and regulations,” Chan said.

Competitions this year include Themed Buffet Table-setting with Menu Folder, Biko 2 Ways, Binake de Oro and Sinuglaw Espesyal, among others.

Recalling winners of previous Kumbira events that participated and won in national culinary competitions held in Metro Manila, Chan declared that they cooked local, but their dishes tasted global, in relation to this year’s theme.

“Eight years ago, I attended the awarding ceremony of Unilever Pinoy Soup Philippines at SMX where the best pancit, best pinakbet, and the best karekare from Cagayan de Oro were recognized,” Chan recalled.

Besides these dishes, Spain’s Madrid Fusion International Food Festival last February 2015 presented CDO’s sinuglaw as one of Philippine’s best foods. Sinuglaw is a dish of grilled pork and fish ceviche immersed in vinegar and spiced with onions, cucumber, and chilies.
