Russia, US, Britain and Italy keen on joining Minbizcon
CAGAYAN de Oro City–– Investors from Russia, the United States, Great Britain and Italy have expressed interest to join the annual Mindanao Business Conference (Minbizcon), which is slated here from September 7-9, officials said. Oro Chamber President Robertino Pizarro said Monday the last time the city hosted the event was in 1992, when the main concern then among the island’s business groups was the power shortage crisis. PPI and NAC lead campaign to stop fake news. Close to 200 participants from various schools in the province of Batangas attended the second round of the scholastic press outreach program of the Philippine Press Institute with support from Nickel Asia Corporation on “Let’s Get Real on Fake News” at the Batangas State University in Batangas City. The covenant signing highlighted the one-day activity that aims to help students and educators spot fake news and find ways to stop it. The next legs will be conducted in the NCR and Bulacan.
THE government is being urged to review Executive Order (E.O.) No. 23, which places an indefinite log ban in the Philippines, as the order is seen as a major factor for the stagnation of the wood processing industry, according to a newly released study. “As an important downstream activity of the forestry sector, wood processing adds economic value to log, diversifies the products that can be produced from it, and increases the incomes and employment of involved communities,” said the report “Reviving the Wood Processing Industry of the Philippines.” “Despite these economic contributions, however, its practice has been in a decline in recent years,” added the report published by the Philippine Institute for Developmental Studies (PIDS). THE six-month temporary liberty granted by the court to Nur Misuari, founding chair of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) ends on April 27 but the MNLF is working for its extension. “Ma-extend Maas” (Misuari’s temporary liberty will be extended), Randolph Parcasio, chair of the peace implementing panel of the MNLF-Misuari faction, said
