Pres. Duterte frowns on UP awards, declines acceptance

Malacañang stressed that an honorary degree from the University of the Philippines (UP) is not something that President Rodrigo Duterte would run after. The President on Thursday reportedly declined accepting the awards, but the protesting students had continued to blow the issue out of proportion, this time gunning after the university officials. Before the President issued a statement of nonacceptance of the proposed Doctor of Humanities award, Malacañang on Wednesday said that “it would be quite an honor to receive that (honorary degree), but it’s not something that he (Duterte) is, you know, angling for. Of course, a sign of mutual respect would be in place here,” Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said during a Palace briefing. “Although he doesn’t run after awards, you know, it would be a sign of goodwill towards the highest, well, one of the most premiere, one of the three premiere DSWD-DXRD Partnership.The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) inks anew a Memorandum of Agreement with DXRD Sonshine Media Network, Inc. Self-confessed hitman Matobato in hiding, NBI launches manhunt DAVAO CITY --The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regional office here has launched a manhunt for Edgar Matobato after the self-confessed Davao Death Squad (DDS) hitman has gone into hiding. Matobato has posted a bail for his two other cases. It may be recalled that during the Senate hearing on extra-judicial killings last year, Matobato claimed he kidnapped Makdom on orders of then Mayor Rodrigo Duterte. The kidnapping case was first filed by Mirasol Marquez, Makdom’s commonlaw wife, on November 17, 2000 in Davao City but this was dismissed by the court

DOH warns against hazards of reusing cooking oil

Dureza said the MTF plan managed by the Bangsamoro Development Authority (BDA), the development arm of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), can even be copied by the NDF for its initiatives in areas affected by the communist insurgency. Dureza , however, emphasized that there will be needs assessment before the initiatives are approved. “We will vet responses from the communities,” he said, adding that determination of projects must come from the people on the ground. The NDF and OPAPP will work as managers for the development project implementing team . Dureza noted the NDF sees “the value of doing development projects while

peace negotiations are ongoing. “People cannot wait for a long period for the peace agreement,” Dureza said. The peace adviser lauded the Mindanao Trust Fund because it helped a lot to improve the access of Bangsamoro communities to basic services such as clean water, roads, farming equipment and community centers. “More importantly, as a partnership between the government and the MILF, it has built confidence and social cohesion at the community level, which is an important factor in sustaining the momentum of peace and development in Mindanao,” he said. T he D ep ar t ment of Health (DOH) has warned anew on the potential health risks of using “overused” cooking oil or those that were he-heated for several times and has turned dark in appearance. DOH spokesperson Dr. Eric Tayag said that aside from the potential health risks it may cause, it also affects the taste of the food. Used cooking oil can also lead to faster contamination of food because the prolong used also makes it a medium for growth of bacteria that causes food spoilage.
