Army soldiers bury cadavers of NPA rebs By CHRIS V. PANGANIBAN Contributing Editor

SAN Francisco, Agusan del Sur--The decomposing cadavers of two New Peoples Army guerillas who were killed in an encounter with Army soldiers on Maundy Thursday in the jungles of San Luis town were buried in the nearest village the following day. 2nd Lieutenant Romel Arnado, Civilian-Military Officer of the 26th Infantry Brigade, said they decided to carry the still unidentified slain NPA rebels towards a nearby village of San Vicente in Esperanza town where they buried them there as their bodies started to emit obnoxious smell. Arnado described the casualties to be 30 years old who were killed when the Army troopers condicted a surprise assault in the NPA encampment where some 70 rebels were living on temporary wooden bunkers planting vegetables small gardens and stocked some 35 sacks of rice as food supplies. “We believe the dead bodies have families that we should have brought to them but there was no word yet from the NPA so we decided to give them See BURY, page 7

GENERAL Santos City--Fishermen recovered before dawn Monday a huge oarfish near the shores of Kiamba town in Sarangani Province, the first for the area in years. Carmelo Velasco, Kiamba municipal environment and natural resources officer, said the rare fish was spotted by fishermen swimming off Purok Kiblis in Barangay Lomuyon at around 4:30 a.m. but later died and washed ashore.
