I THINK Russia is behind Syria in the chemical poising of hundreds of Syrians without regards of violating the law of humanity. The two countries have been close allies for many years, and to speak the least, Russia is the Godfather of Syria. I don’t believe Syria would commit such a big wrong venture without the knowledge of Vladimir Putin. Putin thinks his country is so powerful and strong that it can do anything possible at the expense of the little ones. Bullying is no longer appreciated in this modern times. I look at the move of the Unites States just right to engage in the air strike against the erring Syria. The issue has been back up by the United Nation and all European countries that included England, Germany

like. Whether a system of government is democratic or whatever, preservation of life and property is the utmost aim. In some African countries, the people punish adulterous wives by stoning to death which is shunned in other countries. This is just terrible and very unacceptable in modern culture and environment. Gone are those days when justice is in the hands of the populations and the people are empowered with anything. There was neither courts or justices to speak of. After the floods and drowning in many parts of our country, we have summer sun and Filipinos are talking about extreme heat. This is normal because our country has just two season - - the wet and dry periods. We have to accept

the truth and facts of our lives in the country. Although some changes had occurred because of the socalled climate change which has scientific explanation. I am so glad the military is making waves in its efforts to preserve peace in the land. Latest reports disclosed a number of bandits in Jolo were killed as battles rage in the area. I am optimistic that with the support of the people, banditry can be suppressed and will soon be part of history. (Ben Emata is 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Cursillo No 56, Decuria St. Jude).

France etc. The same thing with Asia countries that denounced the bloody senseless act of President Assad Bashier. It is definitely and absolutely intolerable as it violates common sense on right order. In most cases, power and influence destroy good behavior or attitude of men and governments. The first victims are the poor citizens who barely earn money for food. They are the ones who cannot resist abuses of power. Many of them succumb to atrocities and even hunger. The law of the jungle is on top and it was normal every day. Some world leaders need lectures on the rights of their people. Many of them are just stupid and ignorant and they think their citizens are like goats that can be butchered anytime they
conscious, thinking about ourselves and how we good we are or look in front of others. Our pride competes and compares ourselves with others. That’s why we get angry when someone treats us like we’re not important. Our pride makes us want to act and impress others with how humble we are, when inside we still think we’re more important than some people. This is also why many people want to become rich millionaires. You see, if everybody in the world had a million dollars, then not many people would really want to be a millionaire because they would not be richer than anyone else. If everyone in the world
had a high political position of respect and power, then not many people would want that kind of position because they would not be more respected and powerful than anyone else. Did you know that it is our pride which causes most of the problems in our life, whether it’s in our family, at work, school, or with friends and neighbors. Our hidden, tricky pride is the reason we get hurt and angry at others. It’s also the reason we will not forgive them, but instead even try to hurt them back. So is there any hope for us? Can we ever start becoming genuinely honest and humble in our hearts? Yes, that’s the great news!

God the Son humiliated Himself by becoming a human being to die and pay the penalty for our sinful pride which separates us from God. But He also will set us free from the power of our sinful pride. Jesus Christ will forgive you right now-if you ask Him. Then He will also give you His power and love, so you can start changing to become the truly humble, honest, and successful person He created you to be. Just Think a Minute.
Building a nation worthy of the Filipinos (Speech delivered on the 75th Commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan at the Veterans Memorial Park, Davao City, 9 April 2017, with the theme Tungo sa Bayan na nararapat sa mga Pilipino, mga Pilipino na nararapat sa Bayan.) Hon. Mayor Inday Sarah Duterte, Honorable Members s of the Sangguniang Panlungsod, officers and members of the City Government, officers and members of the sponsoring organizations of this gathering, our honorees – the World War 11 Veterans, their relatives, guests, friends, ladies, and gentlemen, Good Morning. I am greatly honored to be invited to talk on the 75th commemoration of the Araw ng Kagitingan and to join everybody in paying respects to our departed heroes and the surviving veterans of the
Bisag unsa by Macario D. Tiu 2nd World War. My view of the history of our country is one of endless struggle for independence and freedom– three hundred years against Spain, forty years against the USA, and four years against Japan. That is why, in my vocabulary, any Filipino who fought against our colonizers is a hero, and those who fought the Japanese during the 2nd World War fall under this category. Mabuhi ang atong mga veteran. I take great pleasure in noting that we are commemorating the bravery of our veterans in this particular spot – the Veterans Memorial Park. This used to be called Clifford Park, named after Lt. Thomas Edgar Clifford Jr, an American regimental commander who died in Tamugan at the close
of the war against Japan. It is alright to recognize Americans who fought side by us with us against Japan, but first and foremost, we must recognize and honor our own heroes. Our own Filipino heroes who fought for our freedom across the centuries. And there are thousands of them, hundreds of thousands of heroes who resisted foreign conquerors throughout our history. And Davao has plenty of them. Unfortunately in Davao, they remain unknown. Our most known historical figure is Datu Bago, and he remains controversial because of the confusion about who is to be considered a Filipino hero. To repeat my definition, any Filipino who fought foreign invaders is a hero, no ifs, no buts. Datu Bago
stands tall among them because he kept the Davao tradition of fighting off foreign incursions, so that the Davao Gulf region would be the last territory to be occupied by the Spaniards. Davao is, indeed, a “cradle of noble heroes.” For you can only keep Davao free if the entire people cooperate to resist foreign aggression. After being conquered, Davaoenos continued the fight to become free. Many uprisings during the different colonial eras are recorded in Davao. In fact, Davao has earned the distinction of being the only region that has succeeded in killing two District Governors of our colonizers. In 1861, the people of Bincungan, Liboganon killed the Spanish See NATION, page 11
