NEA forms Duterte Task Force to rehab 11 ailing power cooperatives

National Electrification Administration chief Edgardo Masongsong bared last week that his office has formed the Task Force Duterte Northern Davao Power to troubleshoot and rehabilitate 11 ailing electric cooperatives, most of them are in Mindanao.

At the press conference in Davao City, Masongsong said that the task force was formed last month, but it has made some inroads already like in the ailing electric cooperatives in ARMM areas particularly the Lanao Del Sur Electric Cooperative.

He cited that of the 121 electric coops in the country, 11 were categorized by NEA as ailing cooperatives - “almost all” of these are located in ARMM. “May unique condition kasi ang Lanao del Sur, subukan mong kulektahing lahat , and on the next day, tumba lahat yang transmission towers,” Masongsong said in jest, apparently referring to low collection problems in those areas.

He cited the factors of calamity, peace and order, political intervention and governance issues as contributing causes why electric coops became ailing as See forms, page A3

EU hails signing of the Interim DOH six ‘summer’ diseases Joint Ceasefire Agreement The European Union (EU) hailed the Interim Joint Ceasefire Agreement signed by the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDGP) during the 4th round of peace talks in The Netherlands.

In a press statement, EU,

that has 28-member states, said it “stands ready to support the implementation of the agreement.”

“This Interim Agreement demonstrates the power of political processes to resolve conflict. It is an encouraging step towards generating goodwill and trust in the peace negotiations, to

The Department of Health (DOH) has warned of six illnesses that could spoil one’s summer vacation.

Health Secretary Dr. Paulyn Ubial identified the six common summer diseases as sore eyes, ‘sipon at ubo’ (colds and cough), ‘sakit sa balat’ (skin diseases), sunburn, ‘sakmal ng aso ‘ (dog bite), and ‘suka’t tae’ (stomach illnesses).

For a stress-free summer

break, Ubial shared some tips on how to avoid these ailments.

She said sore eyes, which could lead to blindness if not treated properly, are highly communicable but could be prevented by the frequent and correct washing of hands.

D ef init ions tend to come and go, depending on whom you ask and when you ask. Contrary to the word’s common definition—which usually involves fame, fortune, or power—true success means becoming the people God wants us to be and reaching the goals He has set for our lives.

What causes some people to fail and others

Focus on what truly matters and life will have a way to be that much brighter and fulfilling.

Important to choose a goa l t hat is att ainable and which fits with your talents, lifestyle and who you are as a p ers on – don’t go after a goal just because it is something you feel you do. Make the right CHOICE. When you are 80 years old, and in a quiet moment of reflection narrating for only yourself the most p ersonal version of your life stor y, t he telling that will be most compact and meaningful will be the series of choices you have made.

In the end, we are our choices. Build yourself a great stor y.

2. PRIORITIZE -It’s e a s y to ge t c au g ht up on t he l e ss i mp or t ant things in life and lose focus on what matters m o s t . Br ai ns tor ms on the things that you do that wastes lots of your time, sometimes these things are fun and relaxing. If you do them too much though, they may get in the way of the

Also, fundamental sciences such as cosmology and particle physics exert

a fascination for the public as they address questions about the fundamental nature and origin of our universe. Therefore, a working scientist must do his or her best to engage the public in a dialogic encounter about the importance of science and the way it can change our entire outlook on the cosmos.

To study something, scientists use money, thought and people to build. Some of those things fly way

above us. Some are deep inside the ground. Some are large rings that make tiny pieces of normal matter kiss each other as they fly around very fast – almost as fast as light. We hope that we can hear the whisper of dark matter if we listen carefully. We take all the whispers that we listen to and put them together on computers.

It is in this context that science communication is needed.

There is a need to know why the group has continued to operate clandestinely, Masongsong told reporters.

Last month, the “ Daneco CDA” group held its purported general assembly and managed to gather tens of hundreds of Daneco members.

Daneco , Inc. spokesmen who were killed, reportedly stemming from the conflict were its paid broadcaster Tata Butalid in 2014 and board president and mediaman Loloy Ybanez in 2015.

Its current OIC general manager Benedicto Ongking also survived a slay try by unidentified riding in tandem in 2013.

Ubial meanwhile, noted that skin diseases are common in areas where water is scarce.

“Prison inmates usually suffer from boils due to heat and overcrowding,” she said, adding that swimming in dirty bodies of water or poorly maintained public swimming pools can also cause skin diseases.

“Do not forget to take a bath before plunging into the pool and avoid urinating in it.

Children should be accompanied by adults in pools or beaches to avoid drowning, which is a real danger,” she advised.

The health chief further pointed out that dog bites are

common during vacation, when children stay at home and play with their pets. She warned of rabies that could lead to death.

“Pet dogs should be given vaccination against rabies. But if one sustains dog bites, the wound must be immediately cleaned with soap and water,” she said.

To avoid sunburns, Ubial suggested that the public limit their outdoor activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. during summer months and instead get some sun early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

Diarrhea results from the consumption of contaminated food and drinks, she said, noting that rising temperatures make it conducive for bacteria to grow on food.

She also advised the proper washing of hands before and after eating, and after using the toilet. (PNA)
