Customer service most in demand jobs in M’nao – JobStreet.com

DAVAO City -- The most in demand specializations for fresh graduates in Mindanao right now are those job positions in customer service.

Maria Roselyn Ombao, marketing manager of JobStreet.com, said that customer service positions— from customer service representatives to technical support representatives—are aplenty these days. This is based on the jobs posted in its website during the first quarter of the year.

Last Thursday, JobStreet. com presented its 2015 Mindanao Jobs and Salary report.

Ombao said in a presentation that administrative support and clerical positions rank second, while those in finance and accounting rank third.

Those who work in information technology (IT) and computer hardware, and sales and retail, also join in the top five hottest jobs list.

JobStreet.com claims to have the largest number of employer advertisers, with over 20,000 companies in their database; 100,000 job

postings, and 5.5 million candidates.

In Mindanao, 420,000 users and potential job candidates have signed up in JobStreet.com; 1,400 companies are in the database.

There are 3,800 to 4,000 job postings daily.

High paying Ombao said that jobs that currently have high paying salaries are those of IT specialists.

A fresh graduate who can fit specific requirements of companies (like competence on certain programming languages) can rake in (the average salary) P22,429 per month. Industries that employ these specializations include call centers and business process outsourcing firms(BPOs), banking and finance, and IT. Entry level jobs for this include technical troubleshooter, IT support specialist, and technical support associates.

It is also interesting to note that IT positions in Mindanao pay just the same when compared to same job offerings in Cebu and in the National Capital Region.

Davao LGU working on 3rd supplemental budget DAVAO City -- The city government is scheduling the release of supplemental budget 3 (SB3) by July this year after this week’s approval of the P465-million SB2, the city council finance committee chair said.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang said the department heads have agreed to start working on the preparations for the budget this early during the committee hearings for SB2.

“We agreed that they will be preparing the docu-

ments,” Dayanghirang said.

“If there’s money, the mayor will release it.”

The finance committee also targets the release of SB4, which includes the city’s obligations, including the scheduled bonuses of the city government employees, before December.

Dayanghirang said SB4 would include the yearly bonus, which would depend on the city’s surplus from collections by the City Treasurer’s Office.

Budget and Management gave a leeway for the local government unit to identify the amount for the bonuses to see what is best for its employees.

For SB2, around 2,600 co-terminus and plantilla employees from City Hall and the Sangguniang Panlungsod received P20,000 each, aside from an initial P5,000 they received last year as part of their collective negotiation agreement as members of the Davao City Hall Employees Association (DACHEA).

December is also budget season for the council, which will deliberate on the annual budget for the 2016 calendar year.

The committee will also discuss the employees’ 13th month pay and the usual Christmas bonuses given by Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte.

Dayanghirang said the amount for the supplemental budget was carefully scrutinized during committee hearings, and that the “power of the city council is limited.”

The Province of Bukidnon yesterday showed an unfolding political phenomenon in Mindanao as different political groups gathered to welcome a man widely believed to be the country’s next President, Davao City Mayor Rod Duterte.

Led by the political kingpin of the province, Governor Jose Zubiri, the province’s four congressmen, 18 of the 22 mayors and over 400 barangay chairmen gathered in Valencia City for Duterte’s “Listening Tour,” a nation-wide consultative forum focusing on Federalism.

Setting aside their local political differences and agenda, the leaders of the province joined Zubiri in signifying support for Duterte who is being pushed

by Mindanao leaders to vie for the Presidency, a move which could make him the first President from the troubled Southern Philippines.

We subscribe to what Zubiri says that what is happening in Bukidnon will happen in the rest of Mindanao and the Southern Islands should Duterte

Elsewhere, the threat of El Niño is real that coffee lovers in Mindanao are apprehensive when prices will go up or where the last beans would come amidst poor harvest?

Townsfolk who are not familiar with imports and franchised coffee shops depend on the highland coffee harvest of the Arabica variety grown in Mount Apo in Davao and Bukidnon. Coffee berries from the lowland are harvested from Maguindanao. Yes, it could even be planted in the unutilized fields of Mamasapano to provide more greenery in this troubled land.

Killings in Gingoog mostly drug-related GINGOOG City--“We are here not to start pointing accusing fingers. We are here to express our solidarity with you to find solutions to stop the spate of senseless killings. This is not the time to despair,” said Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny Vincente “Bambi” Emano as he opened the joint peace and order council meeting here on Thursday.

Emano explained the urgency of the meeting in Gingoog saying the “clamor of many for lasting peace and order here needs to be given foremost attention.”

“I am here to sympathize with your pain; to help you in your difficulties; to help commit a safer city for you. Most importantly, to lend my hand in support to Gingoog - a city that is very much a part of the province,” said the governor.

In her remarks, Mayor Marie Guingona admitted that no single sector

can single handedly bring solutions to “senseless and despicable” killings that happened in the city recently even as she also expressed her appreciation to the special attention given to the city by Gov. Emano.

Police Insp. Ismael Gundaya, who gave the briefing in behalf of the city’s police, impressed upon those in attendance that figures quoted by previous news reports were bloated.

Gundaya said that there were only 38 cases that could be classified as “senseless murders”. Of this number, some 23 cases were established to be illegaldrugs related, while the 15 others were considered personal grudges. “ We h av e s u c c e s s fully solved five of these cases,while six other cases were shelved as the aggrieved parties refused to file cases. The remaining 12 cases are still under investigation,” he said.

Fire hits Naawan; 19 people homeless

A FIRE of still unknown origin completely razed down some four houses and displaced 19 persons in Barangay Patag in Naawan town in Misamis Oriental on Thursday noon, reports reaching the Office of Governor Bambi Emano said.

Immediately upon receiving the report, Emano ordered its Department of of Social Services and Development (DSWD) to rush to the said town to conduct an evaluation of the situation in order to extend urgent assistance to the victim.

Fire investigators are still conducting a probe on the incident to determine the cause or causes of the incident.

“Ms. Andea of our PSWD has specific instructions to provide immediate assistance to victims like cash, food items and emergency household items,” Emano said.

The standard operating procedure of the governor on this matter includes the immediate dole out of P5 thousand each for victims whose houses are completely burned.

The congressman representing the second district of Cagayan de Oro said that as far as the 75-member adhoc committee is concerned, there will be no changes in the fiscal autonomy provision of the BBL “because we want that money to finance education, health facilities, infrastructure and social services and livelihood — the five basic needs of our people.”

These “basic needs” are what St. (Pope) John Paul II said is the main mission of the Catholic Church, which is “to HEED the call of the poor and the marginalized,” he said. HEED stands for Health, Education, Employment and Dwelling.

Rodriguez also said that in his encyclical, Pope Benedict XVI said that “the attention of the Church should be towards the preferential right of the poor” while Pope Francis, upon his ascension to the papacy, said that “we need a poor church for the poor.”

“That is why the the BBL should all be supported by us to be approved because of the centuries of inherited disadvantages of our Muslim brothers,” Rodriguez said.

During the “conversation,” Rodriguez assured e ver yone t hat he will champion the BBL’s passage in Congress because “we believe our Muslim brothers have the right to self-determination for them

to be able to develop. They have their own histories and culture and traditions. Even before the coming of the Spaniards, there was already a Bangsamoro nation.”

He said that the BBL’s passage and implementation will “overcome the centuries of attrition and antipathies the people of Mindanao, especially Christians, have against our Muslim brothers.” (Bong D. Fabe)
