Part-Time Officers are representatives of the student body. They drive change and make a difference to the experience of students studying at BU, by running campaigns and initiatives to address different issues.

There are 5 Councils and there is the Executive Committee which is made up from 10 Part-Time Officers and 5 Full-Time Officers.

New this year there are also 6 Liberation Campaign.

EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE There are 10 positions available in this election.

• The second highest decision-making body of the Students’ Union.

As ACS President and current Executive member, If re-elected, I will: • Commit to represent the student voice on campus • Work with other Officers to implement Union Policies • Embody diversity and stress the importance of equality • Ensure SUBU Exec works with other Unions on national campaigns

Jodi Nwasike Having the opportunity to be one of the executives at SUBU is something that appeals to me because I want to be able to be the voice of students across the university. This would give me a good platform in being more involved with my university life.

Devon Biddle As an ambitious advocate in gender equality women’s officer and running the feminist society in 2016/17 - I want to keep the needs of all genders in the minds of the union whilst implementing intersectional campaigns that engage the students in gender equality over the next academic year.

Drew Miller Hyndman Last year SUBU worked hard to get involved in national campaigns with great success on issues such as NSS. This year I want to open up these issue to students, letting them have their input on national issues such as NUS.

Tinya Giwa-Osagie The most important job an exec has is to hear the voice of us students and then make it happen, it’s that simple. If nominated that is exactly what I will do, ensure that every policy, event or campaign held by SUBU benefits and only benefits students of Bournemouth university.

Marylyne Samson I want to ensure that every student gets the best experience out of their time at Bournemouth University. This will only be done by ensuring that the Union caters for all students irrespective of their backgrounds. I will also ensure that the Union does more activities that are course based.

Tae Hoyi My name is Tae, I’m studying Biological Sciences and I’m running for Executive Officer. I’m passionate about student life and believe that your days at University should be some of the best days of your life. I aim to be open and to make SUBU diverse and approachable for everyone.

Balogun Adeyinka If elected as a member of the Executive Committee, i will: Ensure that the right decisions are made. Work with the full time officers so that all students are represented effectively within SUBU. Exhibit passion and zeal always.

Emmanuel Odunsi I am looking to proactively be the voice of students that are not heard. If elected on the Executive committee, I will: • Promote communications within SUBU • Raise awareness about mental health to end the stigma • Ensure that the right decisions are made so that all students are properly represented.

Josh Stevenson Students at BU with poor mental health are majorly underrepresented in SUBU’s leadership. As the Communications Officer for the Mental Health Zone, ensuring that any decisions made allow for SUBU having a comfortable atmosphere for students to discuss any issues is a priority of mine.

As someone of the opinion that every student has the potential to achieve what they want within University, if elected I will; 1. Ensure students get equal opportunities that help enhance oneself 2. Tereza Wolf As an active member of the Performing Arts Society, I will make sure to coordinate events across Talbot and Lansdowne campuses, whilst also working to improve the community. I am a dedicated individual who aims to provide and support a welcoming environment for all religious groups which enables all to express their various faiths and backgrounds. Also, to help promote an unbiased view of all religions across BU, in which provides an educational factor which promotes understanding/ inclusion

Through events with political societies and students I aim to create an educational and welcoming political atmosphere on campus.

I want to run workshops for students, from the basics of our government and beyond. Overall, I want students leaving university with the confidence to engage with politics at any level!

Since joining and becoming a RAG committee member last year, it has greatly inspired me to do more with my university experience and I believe that as RAG chair, I can inspire more students to do the same and raise awareness about RAG around campus.

As RAG Chair, I aim to improve the following and interest of RAG to take it from a small, to a large one, through both voicing the concerns of its members and even taking notice of ideas that they have to improve it. The same applies for overseas challenges.

SPECIAL INTEREST ACTIVITIES OFFICER

Jake Ruggier Societies and the friends I’ve made there have arguably been my favourite part of uni. I’m now in my third year of running the Harry Potter Society, and also run the Quidditch Club. I want everyone to have the same experience, and encourage and help more people to start societies.

SPORTS OFFICER

Vedangi Kulkarni As your sports officer, I’ll ensure that sports societies and teamBU are getting the necessary support and encouragement in terms of publicising their events, arranging campaigns to boost the sports participation and funding opportunities from SUBU, thus making a positive impact on those representing and making university proud.

Heidi Quinn I lived in halls last year so I understand the importance of an effective support network. I want to provide students in halls with an easy way to convey any concerns they might have about their health and wellbeing. Be this through face to face contact or via social media.

UNILETS HOUSING OFFICER

Daniella Ford Previous experience as school prefect. As a student in a unilet house, it’s in my best interest to help everyone to ensure the best comfort and safety within the unilet houses. I hope to prevent people feeling homesick or relieve any safety issues; preventing this and creating a happy environment.

FACULTY OF MEDIA & COMMUNICATION EDUCATION OFFICER (UNDERGRADUATE)

Maddy Chappell As a student in the Faculty of Media and Communications, I understand the lack of constructive and detailed feedback on assignments and I am determined to improve and promote a more effective feedback process across all degree subjects.

This will improve grades across the board by enhancing student work ethic.

Tom Rayner Charismatic, excellent articulation, courage and conviction. These are the character traits that define me. As a senior student rep I am a robust mediator thus also passionate about the quality of our education. I want to take an active role in improving our student experience, please vote for me.

I aim to make the Faculty as beneficial and enjoyable for students as possible. I will utilise feedback to ensure that the needs of our students are met and that if anyone has issues with the faculty or their course they are able to come to me for a resolution.

FACULTY OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION OFFICER (UNDERGRADUATE)

Emily Dalton As a passionate SciTech student, I am determined to ensure SciTech gets a fair faculty recognition and every student’s educational needs are met and supported. I want to improve the advice and resources in regards to obtaining placement and graduate opportunities, by coordinating more SciTech specific employment talks and workshops.

Sol Brown As I’m new student I plan to bring new ideas and ways of improving the faculty SciTech. “I will only make a promise which I can fulfil.” I will not make promises I cannot keep but I endeavour to the best of my abilities.

Guste Kalanaviciute As a foreign Psychology student, I want everyone to enjoy their time at BU. Since we come here to study, learning experience is what matters most. I‘d begin with a small research project on what students wish to improve. Combined with my ideas we could make the teaching system better.

Abiodun Abidemi If elected, I will make it a priority to ensure everyone is fully represented in SUBU regardless of their gender, race or sexuality. It will be my duty to work with the other groups to make sure this is achieved so everyone can feel among and not left out.

LANSDOWNE INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS OFFICER

Balogun Adeyinka Jessi Maguire As an event management student, I would be excellent officer at bringing down more events to Lansdowne campus and hosting Lansdowne only events, already organising and hosting SUBU debates last year at both campuses, and promise to create a more inclusive and vivid experience as a BU student!

My goal of intention is geared towards integrating all international students, support and encourage them to a new world.

Joy Osula I want to be on the black students’ campaign because there are a number of ideas which I would like to propose & help the liberation officer manifest into a reality. Ekua van Dyck As part of a team, we would develop different ideas that would help the black students at the university have an even better experience: This is an opportunity to understand what black students go through and help them and myself have a memorable university experience.

Being LGB+ isn’t easy and we deal with hardships in life and feel there is nobody to turn to. I’d encourage students to contact me with any issues.

Gareth Thomas Joe Colegrove As a student who typically hasn’t been involved in LGBT activities and activism, I’d make it an important priority of the liberation campaign to be welcoming and open to all. I believe a range of social events of all kinds is the perfect way to unite the LGB+ student population.

As an active member of the LGB+ community, I want to increase the awareness of minority sexual orientations, whilst tackling issues such as biphobia and bi-erasure. I also want to increase the education of LGB+ sex education whilst creating a safe and inviting intersectional community for all minority groups.

Nia Taylor Aiken I believe that women in our university should be able to fulfil their potential and excel. I will ensure that all women are equally represented and as a collective we will tackle any inequality faced. I will help to run campaigns and shine a light on key issues we face.

Devon Biddle As the previous women’s officer and president of the feminist society, I have dedication and passion when fighting for equal rights for all genders. I will bring experience to the role, as well as continue campaigning to raise awareness and challenge inequalities still prevalent in today’s society.

Bethany Evans Women’s Rights are vitally important in the Trump era, the gender pay gap is still unacceptably wide and causal sexism is still something we experience on an every day basis. I hope to run effective campaigns and protests in order to address any issues you as a female student face.

Tinya Giwa-Osagie As the women’s officer not only will I ensure that This campaign fights for women in all groups in BU, but will also use my voice to ensure that every single self-defining woman in Bournemouth university’s voice is heard and is taking with the same respect as all other campaigns.

WOMENS CAMPAIGN COMMITTEE MEMBER

Esther Adeusi I would like to run for this position because I feel there is a lack of representation for black women in the women’s campaign. I would like to make a change for women in specifically black women in general as I feel that they face issues concerning race and sexism.

Black women usually feel excluded within the society.

As a committee member, I will work with the feminist society to fight for women’s rights and tackle every form of sexual harassment at BU.

Sharon Calado Dombele I want to create awareness not only for women but especially for women of colour in general. As a woman of colour through personal experiences, I believe that the coloured woman’s struggle should be addressed and shared. With the help of the team, I will be able to help develop.

Clara-Mae Turrall I aim to promote a more equal society within Bournemouth University where female students do not have to fear possible mistreatment but instead can look forward to a promotion of better treatment, verbally and physically, where I can draw from my own experiences in order to have a passion-driven campaign.
