AndIthinkIwasableto pushthisoffasfarasIcouldwiththerestoftheteamandthefamily constantlyremindingme,“Doesyourdadknowyouwroteaplayabout him?”ButofcourseIhadtogiveyouaheadsupbecauseIcouldn’twait tomarketthisf***ingshowuntilItoldyouaboutit.Yourreactionwas betterthanIanticipatedandhereweare.

LastMarch,IhadthehonorofproducingthefirststagedreadingofQue TeVayaBienaspartofUIC’sNewPlayFestival.Itwasperfecttiming… literally.OmarandIranintoeachotherinthehallwayaweekbefore rehearsalsforthefestivalstarted.Hementionedhowhewantedto submithisplay,originallytitledCubbies,tothefestivalbutthathe missedthedeadline.IaskedOmartosendmeadraftofthescript.Later thatnight,IheardthecharactersconjureduplikesheetmusicofasongI hadforgottenabout.Sevendraftslater,hereweare—attheworld premiereofQueTeVayaBien.

Who’s Who in the Cast
Adriel Irizarry (he/him) (Elias) is a Chicago-born actor. This is his second time working with Nelson Rodriguez after the Jeff award winning, That Must Be the Entrance to Heaven (Visión Latino Theatre Company) written by Franky D. González. Favorite stage credits include: A Streetcar Named Desire (Paramount Theatre), Anna in the Tropics (Remy Bumppo Theatre Company), & Our Dead Drug Lord (Steep Theatre). Film credits include the feature film Trinity’s Triumph (2023), and the upcoming, Bystander (2024). He is represented by Gray Talent Group. @irizarryo
Nelson A. Rodriguez (he/him) (Mario) is an actor and playwright. As an actor, he was nominated for Jeff Awards for his performances in Men on the Verge of a His-Panic Breakdown (Best Solo Performance) and That Must Be The Entrance To Heaven (Best Ensemble). His other stage credits include Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Lookingglass Theatre Company, Oak Park Festival Theatre, Raven Theatre, and many more. His on-camera credits include the feature films En Algun Lugar (TLA Releasing) for which he received a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the International Film Festival and Soul Sessions (Gravitas Ventures). Omar Vicente Fernandez (he/him/el) (Playwright) is a Mexican American artist born in Chicago and raised in Berwyn, Illinois. As a playwright, Omar centers a lot of his work around identity and the new generation of art in America. 6th Annual Destinos Festival; What Earth Does While You're Asleep by Alaric Hinchcliffe; NOT A Christmas Carol which he adapted for the stage, and Sex, Alchemy, and Mayan Mischief by William Gregory (2nd annual Inicios Festival with the Chicago Latino Theatre Alliance). Octavio Montes De Oca (he/him) is a multihyphenate theatre artist based in Chicago. As a first-generation Mexican American, he’s passionate about Latine stories that stem from ethnography, dance, and devised work. He's a proud company member of the Albany Park Theater Project, PlayMakers Laboratory, and Subtext Studio
Theatre Company. He's a graduate of the BFA Acting Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Octavio is grateful to be making his Chicago directing debut with Que Te Vaya Bien - a lover letter dedicated to fathers and sons everywhere.
Paloma Francesca Lozano (she/her) (Assistant Director) is a Mexican American Multi-hyphenate theater artist from the Southwest side of Chicago. In February 2023, she took part in a Stage Reading of a play called Romero. The play depicted the life of Salvadoran Bishop Oscar Romero and was staged
Oriol Velez Marimon (he/him) (Stage Manager) is an actor and stage manager born and raised in Barcelona. He is delighted to be back in Chicago and to be a part of the Destinos Festival as his stage management debut with Subtext Studio. As an actor, his latest at Steppenwolf, Centro Romero and at UIC Theater. Limerent: Psychosis of the Heart was part of UIC's New Play Festival and in June 2024, she directed Limerent: Psychosis of the Heart which was presented in Rhinofest at Chicago Dramatists. Paloma graduated with a B.A. in Theater and Performance at UIC. She is an Atlantic Acting School Alumni. She's the proud daughter of a Cubs fan.
Harrison Ornelas (he/him) (Set Design/Technical Director) Harrison Ornelas was born and raised in Chicago IL. He graduated from Columbia College Chicago 15’ and immediately started working in the city’s thriving theater community from storefront to larger houses and festivals. Previously, Harrison has designed sets for Not For Sale 2.0 (2019) and Back In The Day (2019) for UrbanTheater in Humbolt Park Chicago. Currently, Harrison is the staff Technical Director for both Lifeline Theatre and The Black Ensemble Theater. Harrison Ornelas is absolutely ecstatic to be working with Subtext Studio Theatre Company for a third time for this production of Que Te Vaya Bien and is always searching for his next creative project. works are Atzucac (Eòlia Theatre, Barcelona), Escolta’m (Catalonia Tour), Toca de peus (Catalonia Tour), and Pshitter (UIC Theatre). His film credits include El Metralla (3cat) and Unicornios (Inicia Films). He also helped with the dramaturgy of Fefu and her friends (UIC Theatre).
Zuzel García (she/her/ella) (Light Design) is a Mexican-American lighting designer based in Chicago. Zuzel previously attended Columbia College Chicago and has designed several works, including Blood at the Root, Detroit ‘67 (CCC); The American Dream, Qualia (Subtext Studio TC); Chicago Lore(s) (Urban Theater Company). She has also served as an assistant lighting designer on shows like The Amateurs (CCC), Urinetown, Not About Nightingales (UIC School of Theatre and Music); Mothering the Movement (Free Street Theater); In His Hands (First Floor Theater); Happy Days are Here (Again) (Steep Theatre).
Gina Montalvo (she/they) (Sound Design) is a multi-disciplinary artist born, raised, and based in Chicago. Most recently, she was an ensemble member in Rest/Reposo with Free Street Theater as part of the Night Out in the Parks series. Other credits include the Artists Against Apartheid event at Alhambra Palace (Sound Engineer),
Mothering the Movement at Free Street Theater (Stage Manager), and the Blithe music video (Songwriter/Producer). This year she graduated from DePaul University and launched her own production company Hamster Pants Productions. Jean Gottlieb (she/they) (Costume/Prop Coordinator/Production Manager) is a multi-hyphenated theater artist with thirty years of experience in Chicago theater as a Director, Producer, Playwright, Designer and sometimes an Actor, and has had two plays published (Hard Candy and Descent) through Next Stage Press.
Maria I. Arreola (she/her) (Casting Director) is an emerging Chicana playwright/arts administrator from the suburbs. She is a Casting Associate at PlayGround-Chicago, the former Peter F. Sloss Artistic Fellow at Berkeley Repertory Theatre, and a 24 Hour Plays Nationals alum.
Ayesha Ahmed (she/her) (PR/Media Associate) is a graduate of DePaul University, where she studied Public Relations & Advertising as well as Psychological Research Methods. Her creative journey began in the beauty industry, which has always been a medium for her to express herself and boost her confidence. Ayesha's passion extends to finding beauty in all things, including art and entertainment, and she enjoys exploring and understanding the themes within these fields.

Nota del director
El pasado mes de marzo, tuve el honor de producir la primera lectura teatralizada de Que Te Vaya Bien como parte del Festival de Nuevas Obras de Teatro de la UIC Fue un momento perfecto literalmente Omar y yo nos encontramos en el pasillo una semana antes de que comenzaran los ensayos para el festival. Él mencionó que quería presentar su obra, originalmente titulada Cubbies, al festival, pero que no cumplió con la fecha límite. Le pedí a Omar que me enviara un borrador del guion. Más tarde esa noche, escuché que los personajes se conjuraban como si fueran la partitura de una canción que había olvidado. Siete borradores después, aquí estamos, en el estreno mundial de Que te vaya bien. Durante el proceso de ensayo, siempre regresábamos a la intersección donde se encuentran el honor y lo liminal. Honrando a quienes nos precedieron, a las personas en las que nos estamos esforzando por convertirnos. Lo liminal significa el espacio de transición o intermedio, ni de aquí ni de allá.

Como mexicano-estadounidense de primera generación, le apasionan las historias latinas que surgen de la etnografía, la danza y el trabajo de invención. Es un orgulloso miembro de la compañía Albany Park Theater Project, PlayMakers Laboratory y Subtext
Studio. Compañía de teatro. Es egresado del programa de actuación de la Universidad de Illinois en Chicago. Octavio está agradecido de poder hacer su debut como director en Chicago con Que te vaya bien, una carta de amor dedicada a padres e hijos de todo el mundo.
Paloma Francesca Lozano (ella) (directora asistente) es una artista teatral mexicanoestadounidense de múltiples orígenes del suroeste de Chicago. En febrero de 2023, participó en una lectura teatral de una obra llamada Romero. La obra describía la vida del obispo salvadoreño Oscar Romero y se representó en Steppenwolf, Centro Romero y en el Teatro UIC. Limerent: Psychosis of
the Heart fue parte del New Play Festival de UIC y en junio de 2024 dirigió Limerent: Psychosis of the Heart que se presentó en Rhinofest en Chicago Dramatists. Paloma se graduó con una licenciatura en Teatro y Actuación en UIC. Es exalumna de Atlantic Acting School. Es la orgullosa hija de un fanático de los Cubs.
Oriol Velez Marimon (él) (Stage Manager) es un actor y director de escena nacido y criado en Barcelona. Está encantado de volver a Chicago y de formar parte del Festival Destinos en su debut como director de escena con Subtext Studio. Como actor, sus últimos trabajos son Atzucac (Teatro Eòlia, Barcelona), Escolta’m (Catalonia Tour), Toca de peus (Catalonia Tour) y Pshitter (UIC Theatre). Entre sus créditos cinematográficos se incluyen El Metralla (3cat) y Unicornios (Inicia Films). También colaboró en la dramaturgia de Fefu and her friends (UIC Theatre).
Harrison Ornelas (él) (Diseño de escenografía/Director técnico) Harrison Ornelas nació y creció en Chicago, Illinois. Se graduó en el Columbia College de Chicago a los 15 años e inmediatamente comenzó a trabajar en la próspera comunidad teatral de la ciudad, desde locales comerciales hasta grandes teatros y festivales.
Anteriormente, Harrison diseñó escenografías para Not For Sale 2.0 (2019) y Back In The Day (2019) para UrbanTheater en Humbolt Park Chicago. Actualmente, Harrison es el director técnico del personal de Lifeline Theatre y The Black Ensemble Theater. Harrison Ornelas está absolutamente emocionado de trabajar con Subtext Studio Theatre Company por tercera vez para esta producción de Que Te Vaya Bien y siempre está buscando su próximo proyecto creativo.
Zuzel García (ella) (Light Design) es una diseñadora de iluminación mexicano-estadounidense ubicada en Chicago. Zuzel asistió previamente a Columbia College Chicago y ha diseñado varias obras, entre ellas Blood at the Root, Detroit ‘67 (CCC); The American Dream, Qualia (Subtext Studio TC); Chicago Lore(s) (Urban Theater Company). También se ha desempeñado como asistente de diseño de iluminación en espectáculos como The Amateurs (CCC), Urinetown, Not About Nightingales (UIC School of Theatre and Music); Mothering the Movement (Free Street Theater); In His Hands (First Floor Theater); Happy Days are Here (Again) (Steep Theatre).
Gina Montalvo (ella/ellos) (diseñadora de sonido) es una artista multidisciplinaria nacida, criada y radicada en Chicago. Recientemente, fue miembro del conjunto Rest/Reposo con Free Street Theater como parte de la serie Night Out in the Parks. Otros créditos incluyen el evento Artists Against Apartheid en el Alhambra
Palace (ingeniera de sonido), Mothering the Movement en Free Street Theater (directora de escena) y el video musical de Blithe (compositora/productora). Olivia Flora (ella) (coreógrafa) es bailarina, coreógrafa y actriz de Chicago. Tiene formación en diversos géneros, como danza contemporánea, tacones, danza latina, hip-hop y ballet. Actualmente está cursando una licenciatura en kinesiología y una especialización en teatro en la Universidad de Illinois en Chicago.
Maria I. Arreola (ella) (directora de casting) es una dramaturga y administradora de arte chicana emergente de los suburbios. Es asociada de casting en PlayGround-Chicago, ex becaria artística Peter F. Sloss en Berkeley Repertory Theatre y ex alumna de 24 Hour Plays Nationals.
Ayesha Ahmed (ella) (Relaciones públicas y medios asociada) es licenciada en la Universidad DePaul, donde estudió Relaciones públicas y publicidad, así como Métodos de investigación psicológica. Su trayectoria creativa comenzó en la industria de la belleza, que siempre ha sido un medio para que ella se exprese y aumente su confianza. La pasión de Ayesha se extiende a la búsqueda de la belleza en todas las cosas, incluido el arte y el entretenimiento, y disfruta explorando y comprendiendo los temas dentro de estos campos.
Acerca de Destinos y Chicago Latino Theater Alliance (CLATA)
Que Te Vaya Bien se presenta como parte de Destinos 2024 - 7th Chicago International Latino Theater Festival, un festival anual que se realiza en toda la ciudad y que muestra a los artistas y compañías de teatro latinos de Chicago junto con los mejores artistas latinos de los EE. UU. y América Latina.
