2013 BCBF Lineup Already Set & It’s Hot!!! We’ve always tried to get our lineups set well in advance so we can relax a bit and then focus on promoting what we have. Well, barely a month after the 2012 fest we have a solid lineup already arranged for 2013! Opening the fest will be Tweed Funk. This is a great band from Wisconsin with Smokey Holman leading them and they feature J.D. Optekar on guitar, Eric Madunic on bass, and John Lovas on Sax, Kevin Klemme on trumpet. They blend blues, soul and funk to the delight of their fans and if you have not yet heard them once you do you will also become a fan! Their new CD “Love Is” is high on the blues charts and is hot! Bobby Messano will be up after Tweed Funk. Bobby is the guitar player’s guitar player. Having toured with greats like Steve Winwood and Lou Gramme, was the hot guitar player for the pioneering hard rock band Starz (“Coliseum Rock” record and era) and has probably done over ten thousand shows in his long and illustrious career. Bass player Steve Geller tours with Bobby (former bassist for the ex-Monkee Davey Jones’ Band and others) and is also an exceptional musician. Local favorite Jimmy Voegeli will be joining them on B3 organ! His newest CD “That’s Why I Sing The Blues” was nominated for a Grammy Award and is an outstanding album of original and a few interesting covers. Dave Specter will be gracing the stage with his straight up

and smoking hot style of Chicago blues. Dave’s guitar work is among the best out there. Dave’s recordings on Delmark and Joining him will be Sharon Lewis, a vocal powerhouse who often performs with Specter. This duo and Dave’s band will be a fan favorite for sure!

Keeping the Blues Alive

Doug Deming and Dennis Gruenling, along with Doug’s band the Jewel Tones, return to Byron after an impressive performance at the volunteer and sponsor appreciation show after this year’s fest. We knew what we were getting into, but those unfamiliar with the band were floored. The decision to have them at the fest was made right then and there. Both have smoking hot, brand new CDs on Vizztone. Back line men Andy Gohman on upright and electric bass and Devin Neel on drums are an excellent accompaniment to Doug on guitar and Dennis on harp. These guys are destined for bigger and better things– you will not want to miss them! Lastly, our headline act is none other than the Nighthawks! 2013 will be their 41st year in existence. Founding member Mark Wenner fronts the band and plays harp, but all four gents spend time at the mike leading their assault. Johnny Castle on bass, Paul Bell on guitar and Mark Stutso on drums are a force to be reckoned with. This band, as their latest CD attests, is a damn good time! Also featured will be Joe Filisko, conducting his 4th

workshop. Stay tuned as we have more and more great stuff lined up for our 4th annual festival next year to be held on Saturday, August 24th!
