The Soka Instructional Garden (SIG), established in 2011, serves as a venue to learn and practice gardening skills in an environmentally friendly, healthy, and safe manner. The garden is managed by Professor Robert Hamersley and assisted by student garden workers. Every fall, the SIG hosts the Environmental Studies course, Sustainable Agriculture and Gardening, where students supplement scholarly perspectives on agriculture with practical experience growing vegetables organically. After class, students can prepare dishes from their produce. In the spring, the garden is open as a community garden for students, faculty, and staff.
