This trend isn’t one to be embraced by the more timid, this is meant for only the most confident and bold of fashionistas.

Paisley and floral prints: The hottest designers have been using both paisley and floral prints to add the perfect amount of feminine and flirty to their bathing suit collection. They’re available in any cut that you are looking for and in a variety of beautiful, fresh hues.

Trinka Turk Bikini

“The high-waist bottoms also look great with a variety of tops; bandeau, halter, string, etc.” Retro bikinis: Another retro trend that is making a stylish comeback in both clothing and now swimsuits is the high-waist! High-waist bikinis are a sexier version of the popular 50s inspired one-pieces. They show a little bit more skin while still concealing some of your more ‘problem areas.’ The high-waist bottoms also look great with a variety of tops; bandeau, halter, string, etc. Mixing and matching prints is also great with high-waist bottoms as it will only make your look feel more vintage.

“The vintage, 50s ‘pin-up’ inspired suit is extremely flattering for the bustier women” Fringes are back: What’s old is new; you can rock the retro inspired hippie vibe with the latest and most popular trend in swimwear, the fringe bikini. This trend Seafolly Jazz is great because it is Club Bikini extremely figure flattering while also enhancing your bust-line. Fringe tops come in a variety of styles each with their own unique look, the bandeau, halter, and even a one-piece with fringes to accent your bust-line.

One-pieces make a sexy return:

Robin Piccone Swimsuit

One-pieces are coming back in quite the variety. Bandinis are the newest one-piece trend that curvy women everywhere are falling in love with, as it is a looser and more flattering version of the tankini that will flatter any fuller figure and disguise any extra weight you’re carrying. The vintage, 50s ‘pin-up’ inspired suit is extremely flattering for the bustier women as it accentuates all of their best features.

Polka dot patterns are spot on:

Bows aren’t just for little girls:

Another retro, vintage trend is coming back and making its way to swimsuits. Polka dots are a fun and flirty pattern for any style of swimsuit and will give you a flirtier, vintage vibe. Giant spots can be overwhelming so it is always a better J. Crew idea to look for the Swimsuit smaller, more subtle polka dots.

Whether it’s a one-piece or a two-piece, designers are incorporating bows into many of their hottest swimsuits. If you’re looking for a bikini, instead of simply going for a strapless bikini top, go for a bow-shaped top; it is the perfect mixture of feminine and edgy. If you’re embracing the one-piece trend, look for a one-piece with a bow accent, it adds the perfect feminine, flirty pop to your suit. <

The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes A Beautiful Gem in the City Beautiful By Riesa Pascal

> This summer marks ten years since the The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes first opened its doors to the public and provided the beautiful city of Orlando and its international visitors with a new definition of the word luxury. The name RitzCarlton alone carries with it an air of class and freshness that has come to be expected from the 86-year old resort chain known for its impeccable caliber. The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes is no exception. Your experience at Grande Lakes starts long before you first enter your guest room. The road leading up to the resort winds around a stunning fountain and through the immaculate grounds to bring you to both self-parking and valet parking where the staff immediately welcome you in as if you’re a family member returning home. At the front desk we met Niecee, our check-in clerk. With a brilliantly kind smile, Niecee had us checked into our room and informed on anything we needed to know before we could even bat our eyes twice. Armed with a property map in one hand and our room key in the other, we made our way through the wide, elegant lobby and pass a smiling bartender who stood

STYLETOME.COM

waiting and ready to pour guests a tall glass of the finest beverages. A ride up the elevators and a short walk down the corridors brought us to our deluxe lakefront king room on the 4th floor. If I thought a Ritz-Carlton lobby welcoming was extravagant, I was in for an incredible awakening. Sitting in our room was a chilled Champagne bottle next to a ceramic dish of gourmet desserts topped with gold flakes and a personalized welcome message written in chocolate icing. The room overlooked the tantalizingly crystal clear pool, a private pond and an 18-hole Greg Norman designed championship golf course that wraps around the estate. As I stepped onto our balcony, I took in the incredible 180-degree view of Grande Lakes and the thick woods in the distance. I couldn’t help but to smile as I realized that I was in for an unbelievable weekend at the Ritz-Carlton. 500-acres of beautiful grounds provide the estate with plenty of room to create an incredible host of activities, services and experiences that will leave you questioning whether you’re at The Ritz-Carlton or Disney World’s latest theme park for the elite.

Everything from a full service spa to golf and everything in between will leave you pining to come back. Our first such activity at the Ritz was kayaking on Shingle Creek. Alia, our friendly and personable tour guide met us in the lobby and drove us to our kayaking spot on a scenic golf cart ride through the resort’s golf course and pond. Along the way she called out the numerous wildlife that had taken residence on property. A yellow-belly slider turtle sunned itself on a rock as a white tail deer – close enough to touch – hopped off into the dense trees. Periodically our eyes were directed above as Alia pointed out dozens of Florida’s native birds around us, passionately recalling their names and interesting facts. Once we made it to Shingle Creek located just behind the resort, Alia had us off the golf cart, in our kayaks and down the creek on an eco-tour like nothing I’ve ever experienced. You’ll forget you’re still in Orlando as fresh air fills your lungs and you paddle down the calm, moving waters, which are considered to be the northernmost source of the Everglades. Cypress trees and other wetland vegetation lined the creek as the soft hum of the forest leaves you in a surreal state of peace.

TRAVEL N’ STYLE

From kayaking alongside fish to catching them in a private pond, the staff isn’t lying when they tell you the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes has something for everybody. We found this out in no time as we tried our hand at spin-fishing. Alia rowed us out to the middle of the 40-acre Shingle pond that sits parallel to Shingle Creek and together we tried our luck at reeling in trophy Largemouth Bass. Much laughter ensued during the adventurous time as I quickly learned that reeling in fish is nowhere near as easy as it looks. As wild animals roam the shoreline and the sun glistens brilliantly off the soft water, you can’t help but to pinch yourself and ask, “Is this real life?” With a hidden oasis of a creek on one side and a luxury resort on the other, it may feel like a dream but Grande Lakes can assure you it’s completely real and that there’s much more waiting for you to experience. After an afternoon full of golf, fishing, kayaking, swimming or any of the other dozen activities you can do without ever leaving the property, there’s only one logical place left to go at Grande Lakes... the Ritz-Carlton Spa. The 40,000-square-foot spa features 40-treatment rooms, a private 4,000 square-foot heated outdoor lap pool, a boutique, a fitness room and café Vitale. We decided to start our journey of relaxation with a meal at Vitale though the café’s light and fresh menu proves to be a perfect idea before, during or even after your spa treatments. We began with the cafe’s famous Blue Crab Salad. Our friendly waitress, Susan, told us about guests who said they waited years to come back for the salad and one delicious bite of my own was all it took to understand why. A new array of textures and flavors explode in your mouth with every forkful and I couldn’t agree more with Susan who says that everyone should try it. Incredibly, the entire menu was full of equally savory and light dining options. From a 150-calorie burger that has never been frozen to an addicting flatbread appetizer. Nothing will leave you uncomfortably stuffed, but everything will leave you coming back for more. A refreshing glass of carrot-apple or watermelon juice is all you need to wash the deliciously healthy meal down. As I looked around the courtyard we were seated in, it was impossible not to notice the look of pure bliss and relaxation that shone across the faces of various guests exiting the nearby spa. That look was all we needed to get up and head over for our own sure to be unforgettable spa experience. After a quick change I met Rick, a 5-year veteran, massage therapist. A variety of scents and oils are presented allowing

you to choose your own experience and I went with a combination of lavender for relaxation and rosemary for mental clarity. Soothing music, dim lighting and a soft, gentle speaking voice are all intended to create an atmosphere of total relaxation and to say it worked is an understatement. The indescribably amazing massages you get at the Ritz-Carlton Spa will leave you begging to stay. A co-ed relaxation sanctuary is located just outside the massage parlours and lounges spread throughout are the perfect way to promote continued relaxation and rejuvenation. As you recover from the trance your massage is bound to leave you in, feel free to take advantage of the fresh lemonade or variety basket of teas available for the spa guests. Extensive remodeling at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando in 2011 may have brought about new physical changes to the resort, but one thing that will never change is the unsurpassed hospitality and unforgettable memories you will experience from the moment you step through those double doors. Perhaps the thing that will remain with me the most about my experience at the Ritz-Carlton is not just the incredible service, but even more so it’ll be the incredible people behind the service. Everywhere we went we were greeted with truly genuine kindness and hospitality. Despite being an undeniably upscale hotel, I can assure you that you’d be hard pressed to find a fake smile amongst the humble staff at the Ritz. From our check-in clerk who recalled who we were with a friendly, personalized greeting at each passing to Bryan, the light-hearted waiter who had us laughing non-stop during our pleasant experience at Primo. Everyone on property greeted us with the warmest of smiles and kind remarks whether they were giving us directions, sharing an elevator or just passing by in the halls. Going beyond the treatment of guest, Grande Lakes’ commitment to quality in everything from the room service staff to your dining experience will leave you in awe. One such dining experience took place at The Vineyard Grill. As we stepped through the restaurant’s elegant double gates, we traded in the lobby’s live entertainment and energetic conversations for a more calming and relaxing atmosphere. To attempt a description of the incredible delicacies we had the pleasure of ordering would be an injustice to the restaurant’s fine menu. Our kind, attentive waiter Mario and the rest of the staff full of seasoned waiters only adds to the experience. Time after time, I found myself amazed all over again at the resort and their flawless service.

ORLANDO NOW

intended to receive or transmit text or character-based messages, access or store data, or connect to the Internet or any communications service as defined in s. 812.15 and that allows text communications...” Violation of the law is a secondary offense, which means police have to first stop drivers for another offense like an illegal stop. Remember - Florida’s seatbelt law was a secondary offense when it was first signed into law, but has now been made a primary offense. There’s a likelihood that the “no texting and driving” law will eventually become a primary offense. Right now, the new statute will be very hard to enforce and is pretty toothless, not having much of a real bite. However, the new statute has more of an impact for the message it sends than any actual punitive measures.

> You’ve seen the commercials - a blank screen with the words “where u a” followed by a devastated mother telling a story about how her child died while sending this simple text message. It’s not worth it - It Can Wait. This is the message the country is conveying to drivers nationwide. Cell phone companies, parents of victims, politicians and lobbyists abound are supporting legislation that bans “texting and driving” and Florida just joined the fight. On May 28, 2013, Governor Rick Scott signed Senate Bill 52, which makes it illegal to text, email or instant message on any portable device while driving. Specifically, the Bill states: “A person may not operate a motor vehicle while manually typing or entering multiple letters, numbers, symbols, or other characters into a wireless communications device or while sending or reading data in such a device for the purpose of nonvoice interpersonal communication, including, but not limited to, communication methods known as texting, e-mailing, and instant messaging. As used in this section, the term “wireless communications device” means any handheld device used or capable of being used in a handheld manner, that is designed or

STYLETOME.COM

The new legislation takes effect on October 1, 2013, so you have a little while to get used to the idea. Most are guilty of doing it – to some of us, checking our smartphone is such a habit we may not even realize we’re doing it. So put down those handsets and adjust while you still have time. Here are a few tips that may help: • Remember phone calls? Start talking again! Take advantage of speakerphone, headsets and Bluetooth. • Using voice-to-text programs like Siri may still put you at risk of violating the law - the Bill specifically bans reading data for the purpose of nonpersonal communication. (And we all know Siritexts need a good proofread before sending...) •Turn your text and email alerts on silent before you get behind the wheel; you won’t be tempted to check incoming messages until you get out of your car. This may be a good time to implement going hands-free altogether. States like California have long-since banned the use of handheld devices while driving, and other states appear to be following suit. So phones down and eyes on the road, Florida, because it can always wait. For full text of the Bill, go to http://laws. flrules.org/files/Ch_2013_058.pdf <

> Nik Patel sat back in the leather chair of his cozy office and lifted his 2-year-old daughter onto his lap. The adorably shy girl was completely decked out in bright pink and clung tightly to her daddy who lovingly held her equally close in return. “What’s her name?” I asked him. “Alena,” he replied with a proud smile as he began rhythmically bouncing the beautiful little girl on his lap. The name Alena might sound familiar to you already and if it doesn’t, you might as well learn the name now because it’s a company that will soon be on everyone’s tongue. Patel isn’t just a dedicated family man as I saw that day. He’s also a hard-working, extremely successful businessman and get this... he’s only 29-years-old. “I wanted to grow a company that will last for generations,” says Patel. “A company that will go to my daughter Alena and my other kids one day. So I asked myself what was the best thing to name this company and I decided Alena Hospitality.”

Nik Patel An Exhilarating Comeback

By Riesa Pascal Read more at: StyleToMe.com

STYLETOME.COM

Alena Hospitality is a private company founded in 2012 by its Chairman & CEO, Nik A. Patel. Patel started the company – which buys and renovates hotels – with one modest acquisition of a 150-room hotel in July. Since the company’s extremely recent birth, it has gone on to become one of the fastest growing hotel companies in town. Today, Alena Hospitality owns approximately 1150 hotel rooms in Central Florida alone and talks of expanding up to New York are soon becoming a reality. In addition to Patel’s ownership and work with Alena Hospitality, he is also the Chairman & CEO of First Farmers Financial. With a beautiful home, a beautiful family and two successful businesses under his belt, it’s easy to see that Patel has it all together. That may be the case now, but Patel was singing a very different song 2 years ago and hearing that story of triumph only makes you appreciate his incredibly inspiring climb to the top all the more. Patel was born in Arkansas, but raised in Orlando where his parents agreed he and his sister would have a better chance at a suc-

curred at his local CVS. Patel, as quoted in an Orlando Business Journal profile, said that fateful day was:

“It was a very humbling experience to be at the front line and to have that guest interaction in my early days.

“Going to CVS to buy some medicine for my baby daughter and having my debit card declined. I was basically bankrupt and I had to admit that it was time to start over.”

During this time Patel attended the University of Central Florida where he majored in Corporate Finance and Business Administration. For 2 ½ years, Patel continued working at Wyndham – checking in guest and dealing with guest complaint – never once imagining he would ever own his own hotel until a completely renewed mindset changed everything. “I opened my mind and realized through other ventures that anything is possible. You can have the moon if you want it. It just depends how hard you work.” And ‘work hard’ he did! Patel soon left his job to pursue a career in the financial services industry. Still wanting to cater to his passion for hotels, Patel focused his efforts on lending money to immigrants like his parents who didn’t speak English well and didn’t know how to put finances together. “I decided to focus on making their dreams come true and so I started doing loans and eventually a bank hired me to work exclusively for them.” The fresh-out-of-college grad soon made top producer and was lending millions of loan dollars to people in the hotel business. To say he was successful and rich is a gross understatement, but all that was about to come crashing down around him. “After I left that industry, I went into a completely different industry where I fell on my face. It was called Heat.” Heat was a restaurant lounge that Patel opened in Downtown Orlando at the height of his success. After investing everything he had in Heat, the restaurant completely flopped and was closed down less than a year after it opened. Patel’s most memorable moment during this rough time? A major reality-checking experience that oc-

and has corporate responsibilities. I want it to be a large employer and to provide jobs and opportunities for young entrepreneurs that can be creative in their own ways. I want it to grow and to become a successful organization that employs the best talent and is a great partner for its investors, returning honest dollars to the people who invest with us and doing great for the company and the community.”< Alena Hospitality 7335 W. Sand Lake Road, Suite 390 Orlando, FL 32819 Nik@AlenaHospitality.net P: 321-271-0531

The financial help and unwavering support system in conjunction with Patel’s determination and will to succeed was all he needed to do just that. From First Farmers Financial to Alena Hospitality, both Patel’s businesses are steadily growing today and continue to show signs of a promising future. Patel’s words of advice for other businessmen and women who have found themselves in a tough spot? Crowne Plaza

“Don’t ever give up. Always keep focus and keep working towards your goal because one day you will reach it and you will attain it. Keep asking others for help and don’t be shy or afraid to ask successful people for advice. I spend 10% of my week just meeting with successful people in the industry because no matter where you are in life, you still want to grow and you still want to be aware of what’s going on.You have to put your pride aside and put your heart out there and say give me some advice, tell me what you’re doing and show me how you’re doing it.” Truer words have never been spoken and anyone would do well to heed to Patel’s advice as he’s proven himself to be a successful businessman who knows how to triumph through the hard times. As for the future of Alena Hospitality, the company is preparing to open its first hotel at the end of this year. A beautiful, Patel-designed Crowne Plaza Resort at the hotel formerly known as the Orlando Vista “Pineapple” hotel. “I want Alena Hospitality to be a company my kids take over. I want it to be a legacy. I want it to be an organization that cares for people

Amazing Sights & Culinary Delights Through British Columbia and Alberta

By Robert Francis Read more at: StyleToMe.com

“The Rocky Mountaineer has been recognized by National Geographic as one of the ‘World’s Greatest Trips’ and I would agree.”

> Located between the Pacific Ocean and the coastal mountains, the City of Vancouver (pop approx 2 million) basks in the mild climate nature has provided. During the summer months the temperature rarely raises above the 70s °F and in the winter months the highs average in the 40s °F. The sophistication and the cosmopolitan vibes of Vancouver are refreshing and beautiful. Vancouver has everything a large city can offer from top-of-the-line entertainment, cuisine for the most discriminating palates, shopping, unique neighborhoods and multicultural festivals. For the sportsperson there are no limits.

STYLETOME.COM

All of this is rolled up in an atmosphere of friendliness and respect for the environment. “Vancouver will be the greenest city in the world by 2020” – Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. THE FAIRMONT PACIFIC RIM HOTEL

Located in the heart of the historic port district, this hotel has unobstructed views of the North Shore Mountains and Harbor. The guestrooms have naturally inspired materials, comfortably furnished, copiously appointed including ultra modern technology. In the bathroom there was a Japanese Standing Soak tub and a spacious shower.

Widescreen TVs were in both bedroom and bath. What you would expect of a worldclass hotel and more. My accommodations were just the relaxation I needed after a long day of traveling. They were impeccable. There was soft music playing and time for a nap. Guests can experience three different dining areas within the hotel; there is the Lobby Lounge with nightly live music, the Giovane Café and Wine Bar and the ORU restaurant. The Lobby Lounge, popular among locals and guests alike, features up and coming talent and established performers. The Raw

TRAVEL ‘N STYLE

Bar led by Master Sushi Chef Taka is an appetizing complement serving up all kinds of fresh seafood and delicate sashimi. I can’t leave the Lobby Lounge without mentioning that at the center stage is a Fazioli piano. Known as the Ferrari in the world of pianos. Shipped from Italy, it is the best and most costly in the world. I listened to a pianist playing this superb piano, each note rang out with such clarity and distinct tones, and it mesmerized my senses. Giovane Café and Wine Bar – A daytime favorite for signature coffee and lunch. In the morning it serves up breakfast goodies (decadent sweet pastries and other treats.) In the afternoon, cakes and tarts that’ll melt in your mouth and if that wasn’t enough to beckon you in, the aroma of freshly baked bread most certainly will. In the evening, I had the pleasure of joining in on a wine seminar hosted by Sommelier, Jill Spoor and Executive Chef Darren Brown who perfectly paired wonderful regional cuisine with various Italian wines. On day 2 of my journey, off to the ORU restaurant, which serves up a varied breakfast buffet. I ordered the coconut and banana pancakes which I almost finished. The portion was HUGE but oh, so good! There are excellent water views all around this eatery. Later that same day, I had a much-needed facial at the Willow Stream Spa in the hotel. It made me so relaxed I almost fell asleep. By far the best facial I’ve had in a very long time! In the evening our party headed over to Vancouver’s popular Thai restaurant, Maenam. Chef Angus An created the perfect balance of flavors using recipes and techniques authentic to Royal Thai traditions. The spices danced on my tongue. A 4 Star presentation made for a delightful taste of Asia. THE FAIRMONT WATERFRONT HOTEL

This hotel connects by covered walkway to the Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Center, the cruise ship terminal and SkyTrain. It is central to sightseeing and shopping. I loved their 50 foot heated swimming pool. The rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, opening onto panoramic views of the harbor, the mountains or the skyline. They were spacious, lavishly appointed with distinctive amenities. Also, there’s a stunning

rooftop organic garden with bee hives, the former used by the chef for various dishes and the latter with menu items like honeythemed tea and honey larger ale. The honey was refreshing and not as sweet as I thought it would be.

The Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel

Executive Chef Dana Hauser of the Herons West Coast Kitchen and Bar invited myself and my fellow travelers to her kitchen where she demonstrated how to cook various items such as scallops, salmon and other snacks and how to present them. Each item had its own texture and mouthwatering tastes. Also: Lifestyle Cuisine Plus offers great meals for guests with specific diet dependent conditions such as diabetes, heart disease and also macrobiotic, raw and vegan diets. These menus are available for all meeting and event destinations of the Fairmont Hotels around the world. ALL ABOARD THE ROCKY MOUNTAINEER

The next day I boarded the Rocky Mountaineer in Vancouver to Kamloops. The Mountaineer was spotless with a lower and top deck. The employees were attentive and polite. As soon as we pulled out of Vancouver, there was a line of people waving good-bye. This waving hello/good-bye was exhibited all along the train’s route, be it train employees, people in the towns or maintenance people working along the line. Of course we happily waived back. Out came the cameras and devises to record the magnificent wilderness and ruggedness of British Columbia. KAMLOOPS

A major economic hub in British Columbia, Kamloops is a historic rail city of approx 85,000 people. The distance from Vancouver to Kamloops is about 285 miles. I checkedin at the Hotel Five540Forty, referred to as “Kamloops best address.” A comfortable hotel with all the amenities, and centrally located within walking distance of shops, galleries and business offices. And a casino about 20-feet from the main entrance.

The Fairmont Waterfront Hotel

That evening the Tera Restaurant peaked my interest a few blocks from Hotel Five540Forty, owned by a local couple David and Andrea Tombs. I indulged in four courses, which were perfectly paired with Canadian wines. Fresh local fare from the

salad to the halibut and lamb were indeed indicative of the fine local cuisine to be had. Before we board the Rocky Mountaineer again, let me write a few words about the finest food I have had aboard any conveyance, be it ship, plane or other trains. Kudos to Chefs Frederic Couton and Jean Pierre Guerin. The wild BC sockeye salmon, the west coast chicken breast and on and on, all great dishes. My fellow passengers agreed. Thank you for your culinary expertise. The Rocky Mountaineer has been recognized by National Geographic as one of the “World’s Greatest Trips” and I would agree. ALL ABOARD THE ROCKY MOUNTAINEER TO BANFF

The distance between Kamloops to Banff is 309 miles. We continued to the Canadian Rockies and the city of Banff, Alberta. Passed Craigellachie where the last spike was driven completing the Canadian Pacific Railway. Before crossing into Banff National Park, the train travels through the Spiral Tunnels. An 8-mile stretch of railway that had a dangerous 4.4 percent grade but that was cut to 2.2 percent grade through the use of a maze of these tunnels.

Hot springs, a marvelous selection of amenities, unbelievable views can all be found in Banff and Lake Louise in the National Park.

ing the trip. I whole-heartedly endorse this trip to the magnificent Provinces of British Columbia and Alberta.

Once checked in to the Rimrock Resort Hotel, I found an unbelievable view from the large picture window of my room.

A FINAL SALUTE TO THE ROCKY MOUNTAINEER

I journeyed on to “Discover Banff and Wildlife Tour, ” courtesy of Banff Lake Louise Tourism. Many breathtaking sites; you could see the glaciers snow melting and filling up the rivers, deer gracefully moving about and many camera opportunities. Great exercise too. The Coyote Deli and Grill was calling my name just in time for lunch after all that exercise! We devoured our lunch and soon headed off to the Banff Avenue Brew Pub where we enjoyed a pint of beer and toured their mini brewery. I had a Banff Avenue Blonde Ale. A smooth Kolsch style ale. Their flagship brew is Head Smashed IPA (India Pale Ale) and they have many other offerings from stout to pilsner.

Since leaving Vancouver on this trip, I have seen Black Bears, Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Caribou, Bald Eagles, Ospreys and Canadian Geese. Thought you would like to know that seeing them in their natural habitat was a very uplifting experience.

Later that evening my friends and I had dinner at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. We had a tasty assortment of hors d’oeuvres, pungent cheeses, and some bubbly in the Upper Rundel Lounge followed by a main course at the Bow Valley Grill. I had a tender, tasty halibut paired with a fine Canadian wine. We then traveled to the Walhause where we indulged in chocolate fondue need I say more? I must say the chefs outdid themselves.

Banff National Park is the FINEST alpine adventure the world has to offer. Nature at its apex. The very highlight of this journey.

I enjoyed every moment, every smile, every bite and every conversation I had with the out of country tourist I encountered dur-

Introducing the All New Mercedes-Benz S-Class > With the three engineering priorities “Intelligent Drive,” “Efficient Technology” and “Essence of Luxury”, the new S-Class extends the boundaries of technology on many levels. The S-Class is not just a technological spearhead for Mercedes-Benz but for automotive development as a whole. As with every generation before it, the customers expect the new S-Class to set standards across the board to retain its accolade as “the best automobile in the world.” Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars: “Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were ‘the best or nothing’ in every respect. No other car stands for the MercedesBenz brand promise more than the S-Class.” Perfection to the last detail results in “The Essence of Luxury.” This pursuit of the best is particularly noticeable in the interior: whether it is the seats or the air conditioning, the controls or the design, the infotainment or the comfort and safety in the rear – new ideas, their painstaking realisation, and highest perceived quality underpin the high standards that the engineers have set for the Mercedes-Benz flagship model – and for themselves. The same applies to safety. What started with PRE-SAFE® ten years ago and continued with DISTRONIC PLUS has now resulted in a new dimension of motoring: comfort and safety are merged into one. Mercedes-Benz refers to this as “Intelligent Drive.” A whole host of new systems makes the new S-Class even more comfortable and even safer. The S-Class is so efficient that it almost sounds utopian: within ten years MercedesBenz, by realising “Efficient Technology,” has almost halved fuel consumption in the 150 kW output category to 4.4 litres per 100 kilometres, for example, while the drag coefficient of the new S-Class (cd=0.24) clearly undercuts the previous model’s figure and sets a new benchmark in this segment. The

S 300 BlueTEC HYBRID is set to go even lower still with a cd figure of 0.23 thanks to additional aerodynamic optimisation measures. Furthermore, the new model is the world’s first car to dispense entirely with light bulbs in favour of LEDs, pointing the way ahead once again. Design: a modern sense of status and sensual shapes People all over the world can recognise a Mercedes-Benz straight away. The classic Mercedes face runs like a golden thread through the brand’s history. “The sophisticated design of the S-Class has always been an expression of luxury and automotive grandeur of its era. And our new S-Class continues this tradition. With its classic architecture and flowing silhouette, it is a modern embodiment of sensual clarity. The design draws a line from the sophisticated, progressive design idiom to the classic elegance of our 1930s cars – intelligence that speaks to the emotions. Stylish sportiness and sensual forms in synthesis with timeless clarity and effortless superiority make the S-Class a true design icon,” says design chief Gorden Wagener. To underline the effortless superiority of the new S-Class, and its ambition to lead, the radiator grille is now larger, upright and distinctly three-dimensional in design. With its long bonnet, the flowing, domed roof line and the gently slanting rear end, the new SClass has classic saloon proportions. The size and space have been fashioned in such

a way that the S-Class appears prestigious, and the powerful roof line is also in keeping with the car’s sporty coupé-style intentions. A character line descending discreetly from front to rear – the brand’s hallmark “Dropping Line” – elegantly structures the side wall and generates additional dynamism even when the car is at a standstill. The subtly created convex-concave effect of the entire flank gives rise to an extremely powerful and elongated car body that demonstrates both excitement and calm. The pronounced shoulder above the rear wheel adds further emphasis to the car’s athletic character. The positively exaggerated surfaces and lines of the side wall on the new S-Class generate excitement as they flow into the rear end. As well as being elegant, the slightly slanting form has aerodynamic advantages. Horizontal lines running from the boot lid to the bumper emphasise the car’s width when viewed from the rear. The hallmark signature of the Mercedes-Benz designers can also be seen in the rear windscreen, which cuts into the C-pillars. The upper area of the glass is rounded, lending it a coupé-like character. The real highlights are the new-style tail lights which are completely encased by the car body and, thanks to this solitarily integrated styling and meticulously crafted inner workings, complete the design right down to the last detail. <

CELEBRITY SOUP

Celebrity Baby Newcomers of 2013! By Riesa Pascal

> On May 30th, Channing Tatum, star of Magic Mike and the newly released White House Down, became a first time father to a healthy baby girl named Everly. Shakira, Drew Barrymore, Beverly Mitchell, Megan Fox and several other brand new mommies all got the chance to celebrate their first Mother’s Day this past May. Meanwhile, a pregnancy announcement in June by Jennifer Love Hewitt means her turn is coming up next year. With celebrity children, babies and pregnancies all over the news, it’s only fitting that we take a moment to look at some of the biggest celebrity baby newcomers of 2013. Kim Kardashian, 32 | Kanye West, 36 On June 15th, Baby KimYe officially entered the world! In late December, the entertainment world exploded with the announcement of Kim Kardashian’s pregnancy with Kanye West. The tabloids wasted no time in fighting over who would get rights to the first photos of the baby and in January, the couple reportedly turned down a $3 million offer they received. One can only guess at the other outrageous offers that await the power couple now! Since their announcement, Kim’s preggo pics have taken over the web and they haven’t exactly been the most flattering. Photos of a very pregnant Kim in overly tight dresses and heels that can hardly contain her swollen feet show that some celebs don’t understand the difference between trash and class when it comes to maternity wear. In early June, the baby’s gender was revealed to be a girl during the season premier of Keeping Up With The Kardashians and earlier that same day, Kris Jenner hosted a lavish Beverly Hills baby shower for the first time mommy-to-be. Kanye is scheduled to go on tour in just a few months and TMZ has revealed that mommy and baby are already making plans to join daddy on the tour. Allegedly, Kim has even begun given orders to arrange for cribs and soundproof hotel rooms at every stop. The couple claims they want to raise their daughter out of the public eye and say they have no intentions of incorporating her into the reality TV world.

Kate Middleton, 31 | Prince William, 31 Ever the classy lady, Kate Middleton – the Duchess of Cambridge and seemingly 2013’s favorite pregnant celeb – first announced her pregnancy in early December. A gender has yet to be revealed though rumors speculate both ways. Since the announcement, Middleton has been a class act when it comes to appropriate pregnancy attire and behavior. The first time mommy’s pregnancy has been far from a pleasant experience however. The Duchess is reportedly suffering from hyperemesis gravidarum, a rare but extreme form of morning sickness. In addition to the illness, the joy of pregnancy was tainted early on for new parents Kate and Will due to the highly publicized suicide of a hospital nurse who unknowingly helped Australian DJs prank the hospitalized royal. This tragedy only goes to show how much media all over the world is obsessed with the Royal Family and their soon-to-be new addition. Kate and Will’s little bundle of joy is due mid-July although as Middleton has said, “apparently babies have their own agenda.”

Jessica Simpson, 32 | Eric Johnson, 33 Less than a year after giving birth to their first child, daughter Maxwell, Jessica Simpson and fiancé Eric Johnson announced they were expecting again this past December. Jessica’s first pregnancy provoked a firestorm of hate comments about her weight gain that relentlessly dominated the tabloids. Not one to be stepped on, Simpson got back on her feet and worked her butt off to slim down after Maxwell was born. Her success was highly publicized in several Weight Watchers commercials that she starred in alongside Jennifer Hudson. However, a second pregnancy and the accompanying weight gain no doubt means having to lose the extra weight for a second time. In May, Simpson appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show and accidentally revealed to the world that she was expecting a boy during a string of candid comments addressing her experience with morning sickness. “I didn’t know a wiener could make me sick!” The singer said before bringing her hand to her mouth in shock. Simpson – who had previously refused to reveal the gender of her baby – laughed off the slip of the tongue, saying “Well I guess I just told the world that I’m having a boy!” The couple is expecting their baby boy to arrive any day now.

Halle Berry, 46 | Oliver Martinez, 47 On April 5th, Halle Berry revealed that she is expecting her first child with fiancé Olivier Martinez. Berry – who is already the proud mommy of a beautiful 5-year-old daughter named Nahla – is looking forward to adding a boy to the family. The pregnancy announcement came as quite a shock to the celebrity world that rarely sees women having children past their 30s. Berry, who will be turning 47 this summer, joins a small, but growing list of celebs who are embracing pregnancy and parenthood in their 40s. Mariah Carey, Tina Fey, Selma Hayek and Uma Thurman are just a few celebrity moms who gave birth over the age of 40. Regardless of Berry’s age, pregnancy looks wonderful on her as red carpet photos of her glowing complexion and bright smile have shown us. Berry’s due date is reportedly sometime in October.

Fergie, 38 | Josh Duhamel, 40 Black-Eyed-Peas singer and first time mommy, Fergie, may be famous for singing about her “lady lumps,” but now it’s all about the baby bumps! After weeks of speculation, Fergie officially announced that she and husband Josh Duhamel were expecting with the help of a creative Twitter post. “Josh & Me & BABY makes three!!! #mylovelybabybump,” she posted on February 18th, along with a shopped photo of her and Duhamel as toddlers. The couple’s baby boy is reportedly due to arrive in October.

Summertime Fun with Pets > Summertime is synonymous with “Beach Time!” So this year, why not take your pet with you to the beach or park? Here are some quick tips to help your pets have as much fun as possible this summer. Not many people know this, but not all dogs know how to swim. I have a beagle that sinks like a stone. So before you pitch your pooch into the pool, make sure you follow these easy safety rules. • Check with your Veterinarian to make sure that your pet is healthy enough for some potentially rough surf, waves, or doggie paddling. By Jake White Executive Vice President & General Manager SPCA of Central Florida

• Be careful if your pet has a short nose or difficulty breathing.

• Long floppy ears are cute, but dry them well on the inside so they don’t get infected.

JET SKI

• Large chested dogs may have a denser body mass and they may not float very well. • Get your pet accustomed to water, before you try the ocean or a lake. Start with a kiddie pool or shallow water. • Keep them on a leash while they learn. It is easier for lifesaving. • Play in the water with your pet. You both will have fun. • Life vests are an option for pets that have a difficult time swimming. Don’t worry; they won’t be embarrassed in front of other dogs. • Don’t force your pet to do anything that they are afraid of. Reduce the trauma, and increase the fun. • If at a lake, make sure they don’t drink too

much water. They become less buoyant, and increases the likelihood of “leaks” on the ride home.

there still are great opportunities for your pet to play outside. Pick any direction and you can find a pet friendly park near you.

• Be careful in lakes for venomous snakes.

NORTH - Paw Park of Historic Sanford

• If your dog chases birds, make sure they don’t swim too far for that seagull.

SOUTH - Mill Slough Dog Park in Kissimmee

• Don’t forget to leash your pet and cleanup as needed.

EAST - Downey Dog Park on East Colonial not far from UCF

Whether you like to watch sunrises or sunsets, you can have a great day at the beach with your furry best friend. A simple Google search found these gems in the Central Florida area. Please make sure that you follow the beach rules and you will have a great time.

WEST - Barnett Dog Park near the Central Florida Fair Grounds

• Atlantic side - Smyrna Dunes Park located in New Smyrna Beach • Gulf Side - Fort DeSoto Park located in Tierra Verde, at the end of St. Petersburg If you or your pet doesn’t enjoy the beach,

CENTRAL - Fleet Peeples Dog Park near Baldwin Park I know that there are some people that do take their cats outside to pet friendly parks. Although dogs usually dominate the parks, at times you can spot a feline amongst the canines. But if your cat is a founding member of their majority, you will need some mostly indoor activities.

Use the moist warm summer air to grow catnip. It can grow outside or inside in a pot. Once fully grown, it makes for a nice diversion for your cat. Since this is Florida, please keep in mind that your pet will need extra protection from the heat and dehydration. In addition, Florida has some fairly wicked spiders, snakes, scorpions… Just be careful that Fido or Fluffy isn’t playing with the wrong type of ball… python. If you want a new pet to play with either at the beach, park or in the comfort of your own home, visit the SPCA of Central Florida. They have many different breeds, colors, and ages. One is sure to fit your lifestyle perfectly. www.OrlandoPets.org.<

SPOTLIGHT ON THE LAW

WHEN AGE MEANS NOTHING & EVERYTHING - BY MARK L. HORWITZ > Last month’s Spotlight on the Law described how a 20-year old male would receive a minimum 15 years in federal prison for having sex with a 17-year old and posting sexual pictures on the internet with consent of the 17-year old. The fact that the woman posted pictures on adult websites, and represented herself as being 18 years old, would make no difference to the case.

Law Offices of Mark L. Horwitz, P.A. 17 East Pine Street Orlando, FL 32801 P: 407-843-7733 F: 407-849-1321 mark@mlhorwitzlaw.com www.mlhoriwtzlaw.com

The jury will be told that the law is violated if the sexual partner was under 18. The fact that the defendant thought the woman was 18 and appeared to be in her early 20’s, would make no difference. The judge will tell the jury that the government does not have to prove that the defendant knew the woman was under 18.

will tell the jury that punishment is for the judge to decide later. Unfortunately, that is not correct. The judge does not decide the sentence because the law requires at least a 15 year imprisonment. There is no alternative, no chance of probation, nor any other outcome except at least 15 years in a federal prison. This may be hard for anyone to believe especially parents of a 20-year old who had sex with a 17-year old and posted pictures on the internet. The law applies to both men and women.<

What the jury will not be told is that if convicted, the young man will be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison. The court

My Palm Beach Getaway

By Charnel Wright

> I love a challenge. So, with a suitcase full of clothes and a heart packed tight with dogged determination, I am taking a journey down the super-highway of self-discovery – or in this case – Florida’s Turnpike. Like King Arthur, I am on the hunt for my own personal Holy Grail of sorts, the answer to a question that has eluded me for a lifetime. Can a mere mortal enter Florida society without the benefit of good breeding and loads of money? I headed two and a half hours south of Orlando to find out. I hit the ground running like a CIA operative on a mission. My assignment: to infiltrate the sphere of affluence, high living and opulence that the surrounding areas of the Palm Beaches have to offer. Omphoy Ocean Resort

Of course, any attempt at an endeavor such as becoming Palm Beach society’s new queen, requires rigorous preparation (or in my case, some serious cramming on the drive down). Here’s my list: One, remind myself over and over again to keep an ear out for last names like, Trump and du Pont. Two, if I see any said Palm Beach VIP’s, photos are a must and three, play it cool. All are factors that I began putting into practice almost immediately after arriving on Sunday afternoon where an event representing the first rung on my ladder of ascension toward Palm Beach queendom is Sunday Brunch at International Polo Club in Wellington, FL. My first stop at the private members club and the official home to the Palm Beach Polo Season is the Champagne Brunch which begins on the veranda at the stunning new Grand Pavilion. I’m reveling in all the luxurious niceties of the delectable cuisine at the lavish gourmet brunch stations. After all, I need all the nourishment I can get to keep my energy up for the Polo match that will soon follow. Although, Donald Trump is nowhere in sight, watching world-class Polo players including Aldolfo Camiaso and Nacho Figueras while hobnobbing with the area’s social elite and fashionable polo fans was priceless.

The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club

Next on the itinerary of places to see and be seen on the golden isle of Palm Beach is my resort destination for the next two days, the new Omphoy Ocean Resort on Ocean Blvd. where upon entering, to my utter delight I first spot a Picasso sketch on the wall, one of many works of art peppered throughout. As soon as I walk in I can feel the calming effect of the Zen atmosphere that puts the “om” in Omphoy. The resort spa, like no other in Palm Beach, is an eclectic mix of mind, body and soul as the spa’s “healers”—as they are affectionately called—are made up of a team of eastern medicine specialists who’s treatments send me to a place so Zen it borders on a near out-of-body experience! The spa calls its practices, Integrated Medicine. However, I like to call it nothing short of “om”-azing or how about “om”-tastic, too much? To start, resident massage therapist, Julie introduces me to a unique aromatherapy massage using a Body Bliss Tension Dissolver. My body is now truly in bliss as the nagging tension on the left side of my neck has dissolved completely. The massage was followed by a microdermabrasion facial leaving my skin taught and tight. After re-energizing my face, the esthetician switched hats and in true Omphoy fashion, brought on the Zen by giving me an energizing Reiki treatment. An acupuncture session topped off my day of pure Heaven in a spa package. Om! Feeling grounded, refreshed and present, my mind and body are now satisfied. Now, time to do the same for my stomach with dinner at Malcom’s at the Omphoy. The restaurant formally owned by celebrated chef, Michelle Bernstein, is a modern twist on classic cuisine. I was greeted right away by the visually pleasing

beachfront ocean view provided by ceiling to floor windows spanning the entire width of the restaurant. For my first cocktail, when in Rome do what Romans do, right? I ordered the Malcom’s Palm Beach Cosmo. I swilled down the white beverage along with the unique story about its origin.Apparently, a group of ladies who often dined here for lunch are credited with inventing the atypically colored beverage. Back when the restaurant served a signature ruby red cosmo, one of the women in the party would often accidentally spill the drink on her clothing. So, the ladies came up with a “white” cosmo recipe using white cranberry juice instead. Delish…and so was the first course. The earthy dish is one the restaurant is known for, yam ravioli cooked with vanilla, maple, pine nuts, sage, granola and pomegranate. Butter poached Maine Lobster and Coral Orzo pasta with truffle on the base tops off the main course and the evening. My stomach, appreciates you greatly, Malcom’s at the Omphoy! On my third day of trying to work my way up Palm Beach’s social ladder, I leave the Omphoy taking a twenty minute drive to quaint, yet bustling Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach where the restaurant, 75 Main caught my eye. Anyone familiar with the establishment’s longstanding northeast sister restaurant of the same name in the Hamptons knows the brand is an area mainstay in fine dining and celebrity culture on Long Island. Now, the new spot here in Florida is a nice addition to an area voted most fun small town in America. 75 Main Delray brings the same legendary elements as its counterpart, from James Beard Award winning chefs to notable celebrity sightings like Leonardo DiCaprio. I chose an outside table for lunch mainly because the peoplewatching on Atlantic Avenue is a huge plus. The Turkish cuisine adds an exotic flavor the area has not seen before. Ordering the Wasabi Icelandic Tuna with ham, dates, blue cheese and arugula, drizzled with honey, I have now discovered what is my favorite lunch dish in Delray Beach, hands down! In a feverish search to crown a winner for favorite dinner in Delray, I find myself at 50 Ocean on Ocean Blvd. Walking in close to 10pm, the atmosphere has Boston written all over it. Boston Celtics and Red Sox memorabilia adorn the walls. I’m getting a sentimental feel reminiscent of the beloved hangout depicted on the longtime running television series, Cheers. Any minute now,

I almost expect to hear someone shouting out, “Norm”! However, what really shout out at me are the diverse flavors in each dish I try. Glass Smoked Confit Duck, Asian Braised Short Ribs and Beef Carpaccio, just to name a few of the standouts. No meal is complete without ordering the house’s signature drink, Spiked Agave Lemonade. For favorite dinner, the winner is…Glass Smoked Confit Duck. Now you know what to ask for when you visit 50 Ocean. Day four brought me to West Palm. West Palm Beach and its more ballyhooed neighbor, Palm Beach, have long been locked in a symbiotic—if occasionally antagonistic— relationship. Whereas Palm Beach prides itself on privacy and discretion; its neighbor, thanks to a billion-dollar boomtown period, is proud to flaunt its monuments of commerce. One such monument, the new restaurant Pampas Grille on Okeechobee Blvd. where I learned first-hand, the menu is as diverse as the Brazilian culture. Pampas Grill is THE ultra-modern Brazilian steak house or Churrascaria. Although, the top sirloin (Alcatra) and pork sausage (A de Porco)— are my favorites on the menu--I can’t hold back from tasting each element on the seemingly never-ending parade of meats. The real surprise here is even a vegetarian (Vegan or not) can leave with a full belly. The restaurant has a lengthy list of any and every side dish you could ask for and even prepares made-to-order vegetarian meals. Do not be surprised when visiting The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club on Australian Avenue in Palm Beach, at any given time you happen to run into a myriad of high profile privacy seeking celebrities and politicians alike. Inside the historic landmark hotel’s Frédéric Fekkai Salon, you spot Oscar Award Winning Actress, Queen Latifah getting a quick blow out from one of the world-class coiffeurs. I’m told Hollywood talent just left the resort two days before I arrived. Or while walking the hallways of the tranquil 80-room vacation retreat, you find yourself waiving a quick, hello to President Bill Clinton. The former commander-n-chief, staying at the posh spot just a month before. Perhaps, while dining at the hotel’s five-star Café Boulud, legendary actor, Robert Duval is quietly enjoying a book at the table next to you. All of the above along with a plethora of other famous guests often call the ultra-private retreat their sanctuary while passing through the area.

::

My two-day stay at the luxurious boutique resort is rather fitting for the culmination of this amazing journey through Palm Beach paradise. The destination has a 24hour concierge service to help fulfill guests’ wishes. I’m bowled over with anticipation for dinner at Café Boulud. Starting with a white cosmo which to my surprise it has a unique twist. Within my martini glass sits a perfectly round ball of ice with an Orchid frozen in the middle. I quick make a mental note to try and figure out how it was done as I would love to use the same technique for entertaining at home. The Potatoes Latke Amuse Bouche came next, followed by Roasted Baby Beet salad, made with horseradish-beet purée, and mâché smoked duck breast. The smokiness of the duck breast really makes the dish irresistibly palate-pleasing. Main course: Tournedos “Rossini”- Pan Roasted Filet Mignon and Seared Foie Gras with Supergreen Spinach, Pommes Purée, and Black Truffle Beef. Now, this is what food should always taste like! I decided to retreat to my suite but ordered dessert to be delivered to the room. To my astonishment, dessert was already delivered and waiting for me when I returned to my suite. Speaking of suite, mine is a one bedroom but the resort also offers studios, as well as two and three bedroom dwellings. The meticulously restored suites, designed with irresistible charm, luxurious fabrics and mahogany millwork. The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club makes it hard to leave but easy to promise to plan a return visit. Between the impeccable service all surrounded by lushly landscaped courtyards fit for a queen, the close proximity to ocean beaches and shopping on nearby Worth Street are also a plus. The Brazilian Court Hotel & Beach Club is the epitome of comfortable luxury and quintessential Palm Beach. It makes it hard to leave but easy to make plans for a return visit and not just to this resort but every enjoyable place I have been throughout the trip. I may not be leaving as Palm Beach society’s new queen, as first intended but I sure felt like one! < For more information please visit: www.MyPalmBeachSummer.com www.PalmBeachFL.com

SPOTLIGHT ON THE LAW

When Foreclosure Follows Divorce By Steven D. Kramer Read more at: StyleToMe.com

“Divorce on its own can be a harrowing experience; facing a foreclosure lawsuit with your former spouse can be equally traumatic, especially if it is unexpected.”

> At the conclusion of a divorce, most individuals expect a measure of closure. However, many people find themselves back in court, fighting a foreclosure lawsuit on a home they do not own, alongside the last person they probably want to see- their exspouse.

Marital Homes are usually the greatest asset and the greatest liability at stake in a divorce. In good times, dealing with the marital home is much easier than in the current real estate market. Generally when a home has equity, divorcing couples may either sell the home and divide the profits, or they may refinance the home and remove the other spouse from the note and mortgage. In the current housing market where many homes are underwater, couples have limited choices when dealing with the marital home in a divorce. Couples cannot simply sell the home, because they would owe money at the closing. Couples also are finding it is very difficult to refinance a home that is underwater. At present, in many divorces one spouse will quit claim their interest in the marital home to the other spouse. Perhaps out of wishful thinking, denial, or simply bad legal advice, many people hope that by executing a quitclaim deed and surrendering ownership in the home to their spouse, they will be relieved from liability. Unfortunately for homeowners, when a bank sues for foreclosure, the bank is not interested in how a divorce settlement panned out, or whose name is on the deed, the bank is interested

STYLETOME.COM

in collecting money. The bank attempts to collect money by filing foreclosure and forcing the sale of the home at auction. After the auction, the bank may pursue borrowers for a deficiency judgment, which is the difference between the amount of the loan and the value of the home. Because the bank will pursue anyone obligated under a note regardless of a divorce or settlement, unsuspecting individuals often find themselves facing foreclosure after divorce on a home they neither live in, nor own. Many divorce settlements require the spouse receiving the property to refinance the property in their name alone, thus releasing the other spouse from future liability. While refinancing is a promising idea, the reality too often is that refinancing is simply not an option because of a variety of factors. Some of the factors that prevent refinancing include the house being underwater, or the borrower’s credit score or income being too low. When dealing with an upside down property, couples should examine other options or create contingencies that will trigger automatically in the event that the house cannot be refinanced. One option to deal with an upside down property is requiring the parties to engage in loss mitigation like a deed-in-lieu of foreclosure, where the bank accepts a deed in lieu of foreclosure and releases the parties from some or all liability. Another option is requiring the property be listed for short sale. In a short sale, the bank generally accepts less than is owed on the property at

sale. Property owners should never close on a short sale without understanding their liability to the bank following the sale. In the event that the bank pursues a foreclosure on the property, another type of loss mitigation is a consent judgment. In a consent judgment, the bank generally releases the parties from liability and obtains an in rem judgment, which is a judgment against the property itself rather than the borrowers. The parties should also address potential tax liability relating to any debt forgiveness by the bank. Divorce on its own can be a harrowing experience; facing a foreclosure lawsuit with your former spouse can be equally as traumatic, especially if it is unexpected. This trauma is avoidable by working with an experienced attorney and planning ahead. Planning ahead insures against devastating surprises, reduces the opportunity for future conflict between spouses, and provides contingencies to protect against future liability. < Steven D. Botox & Dentistry By Dr. Carl Bilancione Comprehensive & Cosmetic Dentistry, PA 2828 Casa Aloma Way, Suite 700 , Winter Park, FL 32792 In-Office Whitening Special $400 Call for Details 407-678-4000 CosmeticDentistryFL@gmail.com www.smilebella.com

> Botox is now being used in many dental offices to enhance the cosmetics of the complete smile makeover. Why go to your dentist for Botox? Well for one thing dentists give more injections than any other health care professional therefore they are proficient at delivering injections and they do understand the muscles and nerves of the face and mouth. What is Botox and what are the most common applications? Botox is a protein derived from botulism toxin that is injected underneath skin in order to minimize or smooth out wrinkles on the face. When low doses are used, it actually paralyzes or relaxes facial muscles, giving the recipient a clean, smooth facial appearance. Common areas are the forehead and around the eyes. A recent study suggests women who get Botox starting in their late 20s develop fewer wrinkles than women who age naturally. The national study used twins in their study. They found the twin who got Botox injections in her mid-20s developed fewer wrinkle lines than her sister. Patient after whitening, orthodontics, periodontics treatment. & Botox Treatment

Treatment with Botox has gained in popularity over the years for several reasons. It’s less invasive than before after a facelift and the results are immediate. When one receives a facelift, he or she can expect to have bandages on the face for several days along with bruising, swelling, and stitches. It might be a couple of months before the person is able to look into the mirror without seeing the effects of the plastic surgery. With Botox, the swelling goes down within a day or two, and while a prick from the needle is visible immediately after having the injection administered, most of the evidence is gone within 24 hours. As with all procedures in healthcare do you due diligence and make sure your health provider has an excellent track record. Dentists and Oral Surgeons have incorporated Botox in their practices for those patients who want to enhance their appearance and smile.< In closing as a general dentist it is imperative that I work with a team of experts and these professionals are part of my team.

As a General Otolaryngologist, Dr. Boger treats conditions as diverse as hearing loss, allergies, pediatric conditions, voice disorders and thyroid disease. While his practice covers all aspects of Ear, Nose and Throat care, Dr. Boger has developed an interest and talent for treating allergy and sinus problems. His approach is to customize treatment based on patient history, diagnostic testing, and perhaps most importantly, patient preference. All treatment options, including medication, allergy therapy, surgery, and non-medical alternatives are discussed. “The patient is involved in their care plan and treatment every step of the way.” An exciting new option for treating sinus problems is the dilation of the sinus openings using a small balloon catheter. The procedure can be done in the office under local anesthesia with a mild sedative if desired. Dr. Boger is enthusiastic about the procedure’s effectiveness. “The recovery time is much faster than standard sinus surgery,

and the results have been excellent. This is a great option and treats sinus problems quickly and directly, with minimal time off from work and activities.” (To learn more, please visit www.flotogroup.com.) Dr. Boger and the staff of Florida Otolaryngology Group strive to provide service that is a cut above what people might typically expect from a physician’s office. All phone calls are returned the same day, and sameday and next-day work-ins can often be arranged. “I really enjoy my work, and that is reflected in how I treat my patients,” says Dr. Boger. “I want every patient who sees me -- from babies to seniors -- to feel that I truly listened to their history and formulated a treatment plan based on their problems. I don’t believe in ‘cookie cutter’ medicine.” But he does believe in being on time. “It’s important to respect my patient’s time the way I would want them to respect mine.” And the other thing that sets Dr. Boger apart: “My name,” he laughs. “It’s just perfect for ENT!” Dr. Boger invites you to schedule an appointment at your convenience for treatment of your ENT concerns. Amy Derrow, MD Derrow Dermatology Photo By Steven Miller

> When Dr. Amy Derrow first enters an examining room at her airy Maitland office, patients can expect to be greeted with her blend of warmth, professionalism and vast expertise in the field of dermatology. But they might notice something else too: her signature stylish footwear. “I have had patients tell me that they are disappointed when they come on surgery days and I’m wearing my plain clogs!” Dr. Derrow says with a laugh. “So I try to accessorize with fun socks on those days. I’m always happy to put a smile on my patients’ faces.” It’s the kind of easy rapport Dr. Derrow has long cultivated with her patients, from infants to adults. It’s also one of the reasons she entered the field of dermatology. “I always knew I wanted to work with all ages and treat a wide variety of issues,” says Dr. Derrow, whose full-service Derrow Dermatology practice offers everything from the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions to cutting-edge cosmetic enhancements. Of primary importance to Dr. Derrow, a University of Florida undergrad who graduated from North Carolina’s Wake Forest School of Medicine in 2004, is taking the time to listen to and address all of her patients’ concerns and questions. “I always want my patients to feel comfortable and to know that I’m here to help--whether it’s for a wart on their finger or skin cancer surgery on their back,” she says. “Different conditions affect people in various ways, and I consider every patient’s skin issue to be an important one. I pride myself on spending time with patients and educating them about all of the treatment options available. It’s important to me to let them know why certain options are better than

others based on each individual’s unique circumstances.” Another priority for Dr. Derrow is making sure her patients receive the best possible value. “I frequently provide coupons and samples to patients,” she says, “and work very hard with my nursing staff to save my patients money whenever we can.” A proud Orlandoan since she moved from Ohio with her family as a second-grader“my earliest patients were my stuffed animals,” she says. Dr. Derrow has since traveled much of the world, including a medical research trip to Mt. Everest. After finishing her dermatology residency at the University of Cincinnati in 2008, she returned to central Florida to establish her practice.Visitors to her office are met by a welcoming, experienced staff, as well as colorful photographs taken by Dr. Derrow throughout her numerous travels around the globe. A passionate animal lover, Dr. Derrow has a dedicated “monkey room” featuring photos from her stay at a monkey rescue center in Costa Rica as well as a “horse room” from her journey to Iceland. “The photos are great conversation starters when I meet patients for the first time,” she says. “And returning patients often request a specific room. Kids love the monkey room!” A huge board game buff, Dr. Derrow enjoys squaring off against her husband, Jonathan, as well as taking in the latest movies. At home the couple enjoys walking their young collie, Clobex. (Fun fact: Clobex is named after a topical steroid cream. Yep, Dr. Derrow is one dedicated dermatologist.) <

Since then, Jeff has filled a variety of positions, including working as a Marketing Executive at Disney, then afterwards as the Director of Business Development for a regional architectural firm. Following that, he worked as the Central Florida Business Development

All of those past roles and experiences led Jeff to start his own real estate brokerage, and upon doing so, he discovered a genuine passion for being able to help others achieve their dreams of finding a home. As a professional Realtor, salesperson and broker, Jeff has worked in all aspects of the market from single-family residential sales to large multi-million dollar town-center communities. His extensive background in real estate, business development, marketing, and sales have made for a uniquely fun combination of efficiency, courtesy, friendliness, and positive attitude. > Rebecca Holborn has become a sought after and trusted realtor by simply being herself. At 41, she has a naturally outgoing and friendly personality combined with a great sense of humor, which makes people feel at ease. However Rebecca is also a tough and savvy business woman, with sharp negotiation skills, acute attention to detail, and keeps up on the trends of the residential real estate market. Her reputation for straight up honesty, “out of the box thinking” and sometimes blunt delivery, has made her a trusted agent for elite clientele. “When I’m hired by a seller or buyer, I know they’re depending on my expertise, and I consider that a tremendous honor. But sometimes the hardest part of the job, is telling my customers what they need to hear, although it may not be what they were wanting (or hoping) to hear. However I won’t do business any other way, and my customers know it’s in my nature to treat their investment as if it was my own. My goal for a seller is to always net them the most amount possible. And for a buyer, it’s to keep every penny I can in their checkbook. Yet for both, it’s always a delicate balance not to lose the deal.” Rebecca’s specialty is listings, and she’s also an amateur photographer. That gives her sellers and buyers and edge, especially when it’s combined with social media of facebook and youtube.

Rebecca was born and raised outside of NYC until she was 14, then moved to Hampden Maine, where she graduated high school. Just two weeks after turning 18, she moved to Florida by herself with hopes of being a dolphin trainer. However life had quite a different plan for her. At 19, she became an EMT and worked in an ER, and later on an ambulance in Seminole county. Later she completed all her courses to begin nursing school, but decided to take a risk and give into to her urge for being an entrepreneur instead. She began a hemp body care company called Organic Therapy Inc., and sold it 4 years later and fell in love with real estate. Rebecca’s been with RE/MAX Central Realty for 6 years, and she’s also an investor herself. Last year, she and her husband bought a second home in Sarasota County. She supervised and got “down and dirty” throughout the renovation, and passes along the knowledge she acquired to her customers. She’s been married to assistant chief firefirefighter / paramedic / paramedic instructor Dr. Rob Holborn for 14 years, and their daughter Taylor will be a senior in high school. She is also a strong supporter of www.stompthebullying.org. It’s a worldwide campaign to end the bullying epidemic. <

> Sun worshippers, it’s time to wake up! Skin cancer is a terrifying reality, and it’s becoming all too common. According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, a person’s risk for melanoma, the most serious form of skin cancer, doubles if they have had five or more sunburns. Roasting for hours in the sun is a giant price to pay for a darker skin complexion, but thankfully, we have found safe ways to get that sought after glowing skin, risk-free. 1. LIVE, EAT, AND BREATHE SUNSCREEN A tan is your body’s response to injury caused by the sun, but moderate and safe exposure to the sun can be healthy, as it provides necessary vitamin D. Contrary to popular belief, sunscreen can still get you some color, it just offers you protection at the same time. With that being said, not all sunscreen is created equal. The most important ingredient in sunscreen is zinc oxide, so look for products high in this compound to get the best protection. PRO-TIP: Be sure that your sunscreen is no more than a year old and has not been stored in high heat. This could cause the ingredients to break down.

2. RETIRE THE TANNING BEDS

have been sweating. The key is to get a little color, not sunburned!

According to the CDC, people who begin tanning younger than age 35 have a 75% higher risk of melanoma. That statistic alone should scare away whoever is still actually using these ultraviolet coffins.

PRO-TIP: Set alarms on your phone to easily keep track of time and to remind you when to reapply.

There are endless self-tanners on the market and the fear of leaving you looking like a Cheeto could scare anyone away from using them, but some are really worth the money. If you’re looking for a budget friendly option, Jergens® Natural Glow creates a tan without leaving you smelling like you’ve doused yourself in product. If you’re willing to splurge a bit, St. Tropez® Self Tan Bronzing Lotion provides an easy application, virtually streak-free.

A British study is now saying that golden tans are possible without lotions or salon visits, and it’s as easy as listening to your mother’s age old advice: Eat your veggies! Foods like spinach, carrots, plums, and tomatoes are filled with antioxidants known as carotenoids, which cause pigments to peek through your skin and give you a healthy glow that simulates a tan.

PRO-TIP: If you’re going to get a spray tan, be sure to exfoliate your skin the night before. This will get rid of all your dead skins cells and allow your spray tan to last longer.

4. STUFF YOUR FACE

Pro-tip: The study says that to get these results, you’ll need two months of a produce-heavy diet to see results, so be patient. Worst-case scenario, you lose a couple pounds from eating all those extra vegetables and get a vitamin boost! HA! <

3. CHECK YOUR WATCH It’s easy to get caught up in reading the latest issue of Orlando Style on the beach and lose track of the time, but knowing how long you’ve been exposed to the sun is vital. Doctors recommend that you reapply sunscreen every two hours, and more frequently if you’ve been in the water or

> This summer, men and women alike should get ready to be in the best shape of their lives through some motivation, healthy eating and great ab workouts.

Achieve a Happy, Healthy Summer Body By Kelly Lamano Read More at StyleToMe.com

Surprisingly, yoga is a great core workout that improves flexibility and strength. It is not just about contorting the body into crazy positions or chanting ommm. Yoga can improve breathing patterns, muscles and posture, working every part of the body. A great ab builder that also strengthens hip flexors, spine and shoulders is Boat Pose. To achieve this pose, begin seated on the floor with legs extended in front. Press the hands behind the hips into the floor. Slightly lean back, lifting through the chest. Bend at the knees, lifting

feet off the floor. Make sure the thighs are at a 45-degree angle from the ground, then slowly straighten the legs. Place the arms out in front so that the palms are facing each other and that they are parallel to the floor. Hold the pose for as long as possible, but don’t strain the body if it is feeling uncomfortable or weak.To intensify the workout, lift the arms overhead. If yoga doesn’t feel right, then try the Hip-up, or side plank. This is a great ab exercise that stabilizes the spine and keeps the core engaged. Lying on the floor with the right side of the body firmly planted, prop the body up using the right forearm. Be sure to raise the hips and extend the left arm perpendicular to the floor. Lower the right hip, then raise it so that it is in line with the body. It is recommended to lower and raise the hip for 20 reps, holding the position for 10 seconds at the end of the 20 reps. Repeat these steps on the left side to give the body control and firmness.

HEALTH & BEAUTY

Good exercise must be complemented by good eating. It is recommended to eat four to six meals a day to increase a person’s metabolic rate. These meals should be split into three main courses with an additional two or three snacks throughout the day to keep the body going.

::

Of course, drinking water is the most important thing to keep in mind. Drinking cold water has been proven to increase metabolism since the body has to work harder to warm up the water, keeping the body hydrated and active.

To wrap up the complete workout and diet, be sure to get plenty of cardiovascular exercise. According to Men’s Health, the “55” workout is a great booster for aerobic training and muscle build. Begin the workout with one “Yoga can improve body-weight squat, followed by 10 pushups. breathing patterns, Rest the body for 30 seconds, then complete two squats and nine pushups. Working up to muscles and posture, 10 squats and down to 1 pushup, this gives working every part of the body 55 reps at the end of the exercise, strengthening the muscles. the body.”

Foods to keep in mind include protein, vegetables and healthy fats. Good sources of protein include salmon, chicken breast, beef and yogurt. Protein burns calories and boosts the metabolism.

Feeling hungry or tempted by that two-scoop sundae? Keep in mind saturated fat slows down the body and gives it less energy. Instead, try consuming a healthy snack such as avocados, walnuts and trail mix. These give the body essential fats, known as polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, to burn fat and satisfy hunger.

Keep a goal sheet or weekly list of things to achieve to be held accountable. It is important to remain motivated and on track to have a happy and healthy body that will say “Thank you!” in the end.<

Consuming vegetables is another good choice. Try to include some in the three main meals for the day to get your boost of vitamins, minerals and fiber.

Summer Is Here Finally! Barfly’s Guide On How To Be The Life Of Your Beach Party.

Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> Summer is upon us and that means one thing for a lot of us. It’s time for you to pack up the coolers and head to the beach!! There are our usual basics we all like to bring to the beach whether it is a day trip or a weekend getaway. We all have the towels, clothes, sunglasses and our favorite book or tunes packed up and ready to go. The big question is what to pack in our cooler to fill up our glasses while soaking of the sun this summer? Let the Barfly try to steer you in a

couple of directions so you and your friends can be the envy of the beachgoers around you. Let’s talk equipment first. If you want to entertain a large group of friends or just a few here are some things I think should make the list. A mixing tin like the Cobbler Shaker is nice because it is a three-piece shaker that has the strainer built in and a top to close it up for shaking. A jigger is good if

you are making drinks following any recipes you have either followed or better yet, created yourself. This will allow you to measure out precisely the ounces needed to make that special summer cocktail. A nice utility knife is nice to have because who doesn’t like a nice piece of cut fruit or twist to add to their favorite boat drink. A plastic cutting mat rather than a cutting board is perfect for the beach as well, especially if you have a flat topped cooler. I also like to have at

least one plastic squeeze bottle for bringing my favorite infused simple syrup or fruit juice that might only come in a glass bottle (Got to keep that glass off the beach.) Plastic glasses have a tendency to help if you want to actually enjoy your favorite recipe so I definitely recommend those. There are other things that each of us might bring depending on what we are planning, I for one also like a muddler for macerating watermelon for my Cucumber & Watermelon Vodka Cooler. These bar tools will ensure you have the start you need to be the most popular group on the beach. The second thing I look at is what mixers, fruits and veggies or syrups deserve a trip to our beach party. The juices are usually the core of any good drink to have beachside. Usually the core consists of orange, pineapple, grapefruit or cranberry juice. Think outside the box a little and you can surprise some people. I love to bring coconut water and ginger beer to the show because they make great options for summertime cocktails. The basics in the fruit realm are needed so pack up the lemons, limes

::

and oranges and throw in some pineapple and grapefruits too. Mint, cucumber, basil and olives are on the checklist on the herb and veggie side for me as well. Cucumber is always nice because it has a cool, fresh flavor that is nice to have on our hot sunny summer days. Simple syrups are an easy way to pack in some sweetness as well as bring some flavor to the party. I like to use two parts water to one part sugar and bring to a boil to make my simple syrup. I also am a fan of infusing flavors by adding such things as mint, ginger or even tea leaves to the boil.

to add a splash of o.j. to mine to round out all those flavors in the glass. When it comes to the brown spirits, most of them will end up staying home. Bourbon can be an exception because it can be a good friend of juice as well as other mixers. Rum can take on both white and dark varieties so why not pack both. I like to play with light rum by adding equal parts coconut water and pineapple juice together. Add a splash of my homemade ginger infused simple syrup and my favorite light rum and we have my Ocean Breeze Cocktail.

Now let’s talk about the life of the party. What liquors are making the trip? We all have our favorites to bring so I am going to just mention a few of my favorites based on the drinks I want to make while I have the sand between my toes. My first drink that screams Florida summers is a Dark and Stormy. This consists of dark rum and ginger beer, Goslings Black Seal Rum is the go-to and they are now making ginger beer as well. When it comes to tequila the classic sipper seaside is your Margarita, with salt please, that has been a staple for years. I like

The steps above are a loose guideline to follow so feel free to play around with what you need to have the perfect beach party. Some tools are essential as are the juices. Your favorite bottles of beach friendly liquors are your choice but you cannot go wrong with those above. I am looking forward to getting my friends together and heading out to our favorite beach for a little fun in the sun. See you out there until the sun set on another great Florida summer. <

Our Town Emile Sande This British songstress has recently taken the world by storm with her hit single ‘Next to me.’ Emeli Sande’s music is filled with emotion that you can see and feel while she performs. Her music is uplifting and exciting, which is promise for a great show. On July 1st, her tour stops at the Orlando House of Blues and you’ll definitely want to mark your calendar! Sande’s performance will begin at 6:30pm, if you wait until the very end when everyone starts clearing out and make your way to the foot of the stage you are extremely likely to score the set list from Sande herself!

vate toilets. The citizens are forced to use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. One brave hero decides to plan a revolution and lead the people to freedom. Inspired by the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weil, this humorous satire is one where no one is safe from scrutiny. If you are looking for an evening of watching and listening to very talented people poke fun at wealthy corporations, corrupt politicians, the bourgeoise, and almost every musical that has been on Broadway than this award-winning show with the ridiculous name is exactly where you want to be!

Death of a Salesman

Leave your kids at home for this one as all of Kathy Griffin’s performances are stuffed with hilarious jokes that are definitely not childappropriate. Griffin’s usual vulgar humor will be at full blast, especially when insulting some of her favorite celebrities, as she does on her television show ‘My Life on the D-List.’ What makes Kathy Griffin’s shows so unique is the fact that she personalizes each show to the town where she is performing; which means you should expect a plethora of Disney jokes. Griffin’s home grown humor is definitely something that you don’t want to miss, so make sure you get those tickets ASAP as they sell out extremely quickly. Her performance begins at 8pm but make sure to arrive at least an hour before the show!

Nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Revival of a Play, Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman couldn’t be more relevant in a post-recession world. This Pulitzer Prize winning play juxtaposes the American Dream with the harsh realities of a fluctuating economy, unequal opportunities, and unfair advantages with vivid characters. As salesman, Willy Loman approaches the end of his working life he is faced with the challenge of reconciling his unrealized dreams while struggling against the challenges of the current world. Mad Cow Theatre is one of Orlando’s most respected professional theater companies that purposefully makes art that will create the opportunity for meaningful discussion and conversation topics. TRAVEL & DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS BY CHARLES S.C. GARNETTE, M.D., F.A.C.S.

> After a consensus meeting in 2001, the World Health Organization published their conclusions agreeing that “an association probably exists between air travel and venous thrombosis.”

Deep vein thrombosis, also known as DVT, is a medical condition resulting from formation of a blood clot within a fairly large vein in the body. They typically form in the veins of the pelvis, thigh or lower leg, but can also develop in other parts of the body. If left untreated, deep vein thrombosis may result in significant health complications and possible death. Pulmonary embolism occurs when a deep vein

thrombus breaks free and travels to the lungs where it can obstruct blood flow and can be fatal. Signs and symptoms of DVT can include pain, swelling, tenderness and discoloration of the affected limb. Deep vein thrombosis is a medical emergency. It can however be silent and go undiagnosed. DVT is known to affect frequent flyers and travelers due to prolonged periods of immobility while sitting in a car or an airplane. The risk of developing DVT during travel is low. However, the risk increases if you are sitting for more than three to four hours at a time while driv-

ing or flying. You can lower your risk of travel associated deep vein thrombosis (DVT) by a few simple precautions: • Get out of your car and walk around at intervals during long drives. • Walk in the aisles if you’re flying, riding a bus, or taking the train. • Stretch your legs and feet while you’re sitting; this helps keep your blood circulating in your calves. • Wear compression stockings while travelling. <

PINK

A Success Story of Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

By Riesa Pascal Read more at: StyleToMe.com

> She has over 20 million facebook fans, a boast-worthy collection of unforgettable Billboard chart hits, and rocks bright pink hair in a way that no one else could ever pull off. She is currently on tour promoting The Truth About Love, her sixth studio album and the first to reach #1 in the United States. No doubt I’m talking about the talented artist born Alecia Beth Moore who you know better as the acclaimed and beloved bad girl, Pink. Depending how old you are, there are a variety of things that could come to mind when you think of this American singersongwriter. The first thing that comes to my mind is the fresh-faced, fluorescenthaired young girl who shocked the world with her powerful, sultry vocals in Lady Marmalade. If you’re a younger fan, your first memories of Pink might be her more recent hits such as “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)” or “Try.” One of the great things about Pink is the fact that her music has successfully spanned across so many generations. From the middle and high schoolers of my day to those of 2013, Pink’s music can—and does—resonate deeply within all types of fans from the young pop enthusiast to the old rock-androll lovers and everything in between. Pink first burst onto the scene in 2000 with her solo album, Can’t Take Me Home.

At the time she was coming fresh out of the failure of Choice, a signed female R&B group she had joined and recorded an album with, though that album was never released. Thankfully the disbandment of Choice never discouraged her funky, goget-them attitude and Pink continued to work hard towards reaching her goals and dreams. With the encouragement of Choice’s producer, L.A Reid—who also helped launch the careers of many other acclaimed artists such as Paula Abdul, Mariah Carey and Usher—Pink began to embrace her solo career. Can’t Take Me Home’s lead single “There You Go” became an instant success peaking at #7 on the Billboard Hot 100, #6 in the United Kingdom and #2 in Australia. Her second single “Most Girls” did even better commercially than “There You Go” and her third single “You Make Me Sick” was yet another hit. However, we can’t continue to discuss Pink’s music career without delving into the collaborated hit song, which featured her vocals alongside three other powerhouse singers and arguably launched her rise to fame. This #1 hit from the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack has more than likely made its way into your iTunes and if you’re anything like me, possibly even a few karaoke parties as well. I’m talking about the

catchy, chart-topping soul-sisters anthem “Lady Marmalade.” The song was released in 2001 and the popular, sexy music video that followed no doubt played a part in the boosting of Pink’s career. The song earned Pink her first #1 hit and paved the way to a broader fan base and outreach for her music. It goes without saying that it’s truly an incredible feat for an artist to achieve such success within the incredibly short span of one year, but Pink was only just ‘getting the party started.’ “Get The Party Started” was the lead single off Pink’s second album Missunderztood and won Pink a top 5 spot in the US, several other countries, and a #1 spot in Australia. The album’s other singles “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” “Just Like A Pill” and “Family Portrait” were also radio chart and commercial successes. Between 2005-2009, Pink worked on a number of collabora-

tions, released her two studio albums “I’m Not Dead” and “Funhouse,” and married motocross racer Carey Hart. Although the two separated due to differences in 2008, they sought marriage counseling, reconciled in 2010 and remain happily married today with a 2-year-old daughter, Willow. In October of 2010, Pink released her first compilation CD. The album’s lead single “Raise Your Glass” was written to celebrate a decade since Pink debuted as a solo artist and also became her tenth #1 hit on the Billboard chart. The compilation album was appropriately titled Greatest Hits... So Far!!! as Pink has since shown us that she has many more hits up her sleeve. Pink’s sixth and latest studio album The Truth About Love was released in 2012 and currently has her on a successful world tour. Pink’s third single from the album “Just Give Me A Reason” features Fun’s lead singer,

Nate Ruess and became an international success. It topped charts all throughout America, Canada and Europe and peaked at top 5 in several other countries. “Just Give Me A Reason” became her fourth #1 hit on the Billboard charts with over 91 million YouTube hits and still sits at number one as I write this. Pink has had an undeniably incredible career and she continues to grow and amaze as she pursues her passion for music and exercises her singing-songwriting talent. We may not know what the future holds for Pink, but I look forward to seeing her reach decade #2 of her career, expanding her music to an entirely new generation of listeners, and all the while maintaining those killer pink highlights that we’ve all come to know and love.<
