Omidyar Network JBReed/Bloomberg News No. 1-ranked Pierre Omidyar applies a venture-capital approach to recipients ranging from microloans to Wikipedia.

1

EBay founder Pierre Omidyar says the best piece of philanthropic advice he ever received was this: Don’t set up a foundation. The Omidyar Network operates more like a venture-capital outfit, investing in businesses and nonprofits that aim for social change. The network and other efforts have huge multiplier effects: A $100 million fund the couple established at Tufts University is set to produce $1 billion in microloans in developing countries while also turning a profit for Tufts, Pierre’s alma mater. Wiki Money: Committed $300 million since ‘04 to such innovations as Wikipedia, “micro insurance” and technology to improve government transparency. Mind Over Matter: “Philanthropy isn’t a function of the size of your wallet.” 2. Jeff Skoll

Even in complete and utter darkness, you can’t take your eyes off it. Night — it’s the great equalizer. One car blends into the next. Which is why when we designed the new A8, we started with the very first thing you see. Its LED headlights not only demand your full attention, they are also the closest re-creation to daylight of any car on the road.* Not to mention the most efficient.† See how the rest of the A8 will demand your attention at audiusa.com/A8. The Urban Youth League was founded by NFL All-Pro Running Back Ricky Watters. The mission of the UYL is to assist at-risk youth in becoming leaders in their communities. UYL strives to build self-conďŹ dence and self-worth through mentoring, life skills training, exposure to the arts, music, sports, and different cultures. As an adoptee himself growing up in the inner city, Ricky is just as passionate about kids as he is about playing football. Through the community outreach programs offered through UYL, Ricky strives to ensure that no child is left behind. Children living in struggling economic conditions, single parent homes and in foster care are like any other child who needs guidance, encouragement and support to realize their full potential. Ricky believes that by sharing his personal story and many challenges he faced as a youth and young adult, he will encourage children and teens to never give up until they reach their goals.
