Congratulations on the release of your new book! What inspired you to write MORE of the Fit Woman’s Secrets?
Thank you! I would have to say the main inspiration behind the decision to write my second book was absolutely the Lorna Jane customer ... She simply asked for MORE! After the release of my first book two years ago, Move, Nourish, Believe: The Fit Woman’s Secret Revealed, my customers continued to ask MORE questions about my way of life… they wanted to know about more ways to be happy and healthy, more ways to move, more delicious recipes, more ways to get the most out of their lives … and the list goes on! I knew that I still had so much more to share with them, so I began the writing process again.
of MORE, as so many people think it only relates to exercising and being fit… when in reality it is so much more powerful than that. Active living is about living every single day of your life with purpose and intent, challenging yourself daily in big and small ways, and caring for your body with regular exercise, nourishing foods, and positive and uplifting thoughts. I have lived this way for as long as I can remember… It is a combination of the physical, emotional and physiological choices I make to truly lead my best active life.
You have been the front runner in women’s fitness for over two decades, what is the secret to your success?
Active living is something that you speak about often, for women who are always hearing these two words, explain what it is and what it means to you?
I actually give my definition of active living at the very beginning

Women are finding it easier to feel confident in themselves, with health and wellbeing becoming very popular in society. What do you think is it, about modern day fitness that is drawing more women to participate?
I think society’s view on exercising has changed completely from when I started my business. Before, telling your friends you were going to the gym wasn’t
something you would promote and you certainly wouldn’t be caught in public wearing your activewear! Nowadays, exercising and getting fit is a way of life. Women are working out more, they’re looking good and want to wear fashion that shows off their amazing bodies ... Fit Fashion is right on trend. The fitness industry is also experiencing change with so many new and fun ways to workout; from Bootcamp, to Pilates, to High Intensity Training and so much more.

Primer - not to prime is a crime! A matte bronzer - can also be used as a great contouring tool. Mascara - it’s black gold.
What is the key to a healthy, glowing complexion?
It’s all in the (skin) prep. I always start by nourishing the skin with a hydrating serum then follow up with a primer (like my Auto Pilot Pre-Foundation Skin Primer) to prepare the skin for makeup, and keep it in place. Use foundation only where needed, conceal from there and blend blend blend for the most natural effect.
Describe a typical day in your life. Unpredictable and constant! I could be on an editorial shoot; meeting with my Product Development team or trialling new product on my staff.
What is your favourite part of the job?
So many things - the creative outlet it provides, the ability to really transform a woman’s face and more importantly, her confidence. But the thing I love the most is the connection it gives me to the individual.
Yes I get to meet and make up celebritiesbut I’ve always been about real women. I started out 20 years ago making over everyday women, and the connection I have with them continues to inspire and motivate me.
What make up trends for spring summer should our Mackay readers try?
Bold lips in shades of orange, red (from bordeaux to cherry), fuchsia or bubblegum pink. I also love a swipe of graphic or feline liner - try navy as an alternative to black. It’s face-flattering on everyone and works with any look.
What beauty mistake do women often make?
I have witnessed some serious crimes against foundation recently! Not blending correctly; foundation in the hairline; foundation that’s too dark or light for your complexion. I try to avoid using foundation on the forehead, this is when makeup can start looking like a mask.

Pea anD ginger ChiCken
Elaine Hewitt shares her recipe for Maryland chicken pieces stuffed with pea and ginger puree and basted to perfection with Ribs and Rumps’ special basting sauce. Visit Ribs and Rumps at Caneland Central to pick up a bottle and add a unique flavour to your steaks, ribs and chicken.
SERVES 4
COOKING 45 MINS
ingredients
4 x Maryland chicken pieces
1 cup (250ml) Ribs and Rumps Basting
250g Baby frozen Peas
200g Snow peas
Coriander chopped for garnish
Knob of butter
For the puree:
450g tin of green peas
¼ cup (60ml) Ribs and Rumps Basting
4 x Garlic shoots, finely chopped
3 x tsp crushed Ginger
1 x tsp crushed Garlic
¼ bunch chopped Coriander
Juice of ½ a lemon
1 x pinch salt
2 x pinch cracked black pepper
method
1. Drain the liquid from the tinned green peas. Blend them with the chopped garlic shoots, ginger and crushed garlic in a food processor (or with a stick blender) until a smooth paste is formed.
2. Add ¼ cup (60ml) of Ribs & Rumps basting, salt, pepper and coriander to the mix. Add lemon juice and blend for 5 seconds.
3. Using your fingers, gently loosen the skin of the chicken to allow room for the puree stuffing. Stuff each chicken with approx 2 dessert spoons of the puree.

4. Place the stuffed chicken pieces onto a baking tray. Baste with Ribs & Rumps basting using a pastry brush, cover with foil and cook in a pre-heated oven at 190°c for 30 mins, re-basting halfway through.
5. Remove foil, baste chicken and cook uncovered for a further 15 mins until the skin is golden brown.
6. Cook frozen baby peas and snow peas for 2-3 mins in boiling water, drain, add butter.
7. Baste the chicken pieces again before serving on a bed of peas, garnish with the chopped coriander.
