EDITOR’S LETTER

There’s an undeniable magic and energy that comes with the process of a magazine redesign. It’s a journey filled with surprise and serendipitous moments that remind us of the handiwork of chance.

We are so excited to announce a new era for our magazine. In tune with the dynamic growth of Brisbane city and beyond, we too are embarking on a journey of transformation. This issue sees a shift in direction, reflecting the evolving and sophisticated lifestyles and interests of our audience.

From the very beginning, this glow-up just felt right. As we explored new ideas and directions, there was a sense of synchronicity guiding our every step. Woo woo? Maybe. But it’s funny how things just seemed to fall into place. Like being seated next to Mariafe Artacho del Solar at a breakfast, being invited to collaborate with luxury marketplace FWRD, and more. Things just kept happening.

The highlight of course, was our cover shoot with the divine Kayla Boyd (right) whose personal style and design influences aligned perfectly with our vision for Style. It was like discovering a kindred spirit, and working together was a dream (big shoutout to Kayla and Darius). But the magic didn’t stop there. A girlfriend suggesting Fleur Studios for our interviews was a

pleasant surprise, especially when we uncovered the link to Kayla’s own home. And let’s not forget our mutual appreciation for American design maven Kelly Wearstler, (our muse), who Kayla cites as one of her major influences also. IYKYK.

Throughout this journey, I’ve been constantly reminded of the power of collaboration and the joy of the unexpected. Every timely email and spur-of-the-moment idea served as a gentle prod of the creative spirit driving us forward. As we send ‘new’ Style off to the printer, I’m filled with gratitude for everyone who played a part in bringing it to life. (And yes, I know I have been painful at times). However it has been a humbling experience – one that has reinvigorated my passion for our craft and reminds me why I love what I do. What we do.

And before I sign off, we say farewell to our Deputy Editor Penelope Pelecas as she and husband Lorenzo embark on the incredible journey of parenthood. We extend our warmest wishes and congratulations to you both. Here’s to sleepless nights, cuddles, and a whole lot of love.

Sounds a little bit like creating this mag!

Beautiful new boutique

From the charming heart of Paddington to the luxurious ambience of James St, Klemenza boutique and interior design studio has a new home. Ahead of its official launch, we spoke to founder, director, and interior designer, Sophia Klemenz Ghanem, about the elevated space and what’s to come.

Congratulations on your new store in James St, how amazing! What are you most excited for? A new opportunity and rebirth of our brand. It’s always been a dream of mine to be on James St, and standing in our beautiful new boutique is a ‘pinch me’ moment. Tell us about the space The new boutique exudes intimacy, class, and a sense of adventure. A lot of thoughtful consideration went into the lighting, from the backlit joinery that showcases our homewares to the complementary cluster of lights for a unique experience. We designed stunning rugs with organic shapes and our custom hand-poured candles from Melbourne’s Noble Elements added the perfect finishing touch. You’ve been in Paddington since 2019, why the change in location? We loved our little Queenslander and it wasn’t an easy decision, but we wanted to be amongst the action in James St. It has great energy here and we love being surrounded by our peers and suppliers. How did the Klemenza story begin? My parents were hoteliers and we were lucky enough to live in nine countries and eleven cities growing up. This exposed me to different cultures and so many beautiful interiors, which developed my love for design and

appreciation for how a space can make you feel. After working in the industry for years, it felt like the right time to start something of my own after I had my first son – it’s always been my dream to have a store filled with beautiful things. What are some of the new and exclusive brands you’ve added to the collection? There are Curionoir’s hand blown glass candles from New Zealand, Bienamie’s Parisian art deco-inspired scents, and Regime Des Fleurs – the New York brand with a cult following for its renegade approach to perfumery. We have Copenhagen brand Hein Studios’ sculptural vessels, as well as curious homewares and jewellery from London’s Anissa Kermiche. We’re also excited to have antique-inspired Australian jewellery boxes from Trove, and we’ll be receiving pieces from Rachel Donath’s fashion-forward furniture collection. 2024 is already off to a momentous start –what else is in store for the year? We have our new homewares and furniture collection in the design phase right now and amazing brands dropping throughout the year to keep our floor fresh. Additionally, we have a few evenings planned for our boutique, like our launch and ‘meet the designer’ events.

It’s a common assumption, especially in Queensland that houses in the sunny state need to channel a renovated Queenslander familiarity. You know, timber-clad facades, sweeping veranda, and should be functional yet modernised. So, you can imagine our intrigue when we heard the news of Kayla Boyd’s latest architectural endeavour, MALA.

“I wanted to design something that was different to what everyone else was doing here in Queensland,” said  Kayla.

In many ways, MALA is a typical Australian home. Functionally, it offers a space ideal for raising a family. But interior specialist, beauty and fashion influencer, and mum of three, Kayla Boyd isn’t known for her typical choices. Aesthetically, the inner-city home provides a blend of both luxurious and timeless design choices, incorporating natural materials, elegant finishes, and highend furnishings to create a comfortable, stylish, and functional home.

MALA is Kayla and her husband, Darius’ third home together, but it’s the first they have been able to build and design from scratch. Their vision? To create a modern Mediterranean farmhouse with hints of a Beverly Hills chateau.

With CHS Building overseeing construction and Rogue Architects managing the design, every facet of MALA was

executed with precision. Kayla took on all the interiors, internally and externally, right down to every paint colour, skirting board, furniture choice, and styling.

“It was a collaborative effort that required careful coordination and communication to achieve the desired outcome and we couldn’t be happier.”

Entering the home feels like stepping into a palace, greeted by the opulent travertine and marble checkerboard tiles in the foyer. The fragrances of Diptyque Baies and Byredo Bibliotheque only serve to heighten the sense of luxury in the home.

At the heart of MALA is the kitchen –where Kayla and her family spend most of their time. Arabescato Corchia marble complemented with the warmth of beige cabinetry are the focal points of the space. However, it’s not just all about aesthetics – equipped with top-of-the-line appliances and ample storage.

“It’s a space where we can cook, dine, and entertain, making it truly special to me,” said Kayla.

The rest of the house boasts an array of gorgeous design elements, including arched windows throughout, wainscoting strategically placed in key areas and an amazing Calacatta Monet marble fireplace.

“A home tells a story and is a reflection of who you are, your home is a feeling, it’s energy and I love being able to express myself through interior design.”

Tales in tune

How Nina Korbe uses her voice towards First Nations empowerment.

At just 25 years old, Nina Korbe is already an internationally acclaimed, award-winning soprano, rewriting the operatic scene with her stellar performances and passion for cultural representation.

But let’s rewind a bit to where it all began, shall we?

At just 15 years old, Nina found her voice in the chorus of Opera Queensland – little did she know she was setting the stage for an astonishing career that would see her wowing audiences across the globe.

Fast forward to 2019, and Nina was graduating with a Bachelor of Music Performance, along with numerous awards and of course, the hearts of all who heard her. Throughout her studies, she took on lead roles in productions spanning the classics, from Mozart to  Berlioz.

Her next move?

Upon Nina’s return to Australia, she continued to grace the stage with the nation’s leading ensembles including making her professional theatrical debut starring in the role of Maria in Opera Australia’s production of West Side Story . However, it’s not just Nina’s vocal skills that make her worthy of praise, it’s her dedication to amplifying Indigenous voices in the arts.

“I just hold onto the hope that my achievements pave the way for others to succeed too.”

Venturing to a new country to pursue a Master of Arts at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Here Nina earned an impressive array of scholarships and fellowships, yet her heart remained firmly rooted in her homeland.

As a proud Koa, Kuku Yalangi, and Wakka Wakka woman, Nina is on a mission to improve the future for Indigenous performers, whether she’s sitting on boards, speaking on panels, or working with schools to increase access to the arts.

For those eager to witness Nina Korbe’s in action, mark your calendars for Perfumes of the East at QPAC’s Concert Hall on Sunday 2 June at 3pm. Nina will perform as a featured artist with Southern Cross Soloists. Tickets are available at qpac. com.au or by phone at 136 246.

Cue the free-flowing champagne, Noosa Eat & Drink Festival returns!

There are many things to love about the Sunshine Coast –the sprawling coastline, the national parks, and the close-to-perfect weather – but nothing quite compares to the food and drink scene.

Noosa, in particular, knows a thing or two about wining and dining, so much so that they’re hosting an entire festival to celebrate. In case you haven’t heard the delicious news, the Noosa Eat & Drink Festival is making its grand return, and it’s turning 21! From Thursday 30 May to Sunday 2 June, Noosa will transform into a foodie paradise, offering over 75 events packed into four days of pure bliss. Think long lunches that stretch into the evenings, a new look beach Beach Club complete with grazing platters and fresh local seafood, pop-up breweries and distilleries, DJs and live music, plus much more that’ll leave you drooling.

But it’s not just about stuffing your face (although, let’s be real, that’s a major perk), it’s about raising a toast to Noosa’s thriving food and drink scene and a nod to the local businesses that keep us happily fed year- round.

If you’re looking to attend, you can’t miss the Catalina pre-launch party, the Laneway Eats event, and the Mariella x Mextrade Mezcal Masterclass. Plus, the Gala dinner on Sunday night will be one to remember. Italian restaurant Locale is teaming up with top chefs Ben Williamson from Agnes Restaurant (pictured top right) and Jason Saxby from Raes on Wategos to serve up a gourmet feast that will leave you wanting more.

The star-studded lineup doesn’t end there with special guests like George Calombaris, Gary Mehigan, and Warren Mendes making appearances at the Festival Village for live cooking demonstrations and masterclasses throughout the weekend.

Our very own Editor Tracy Sinclair recently enjoyed a sneak taste of all the action, cruising along the Noosa River between Lanai and Locale restaurants with oysters and champagne in hand. Her verdict? “This is one event not to miss, book a ticket, book a room!”

We’re already on the hunt for the perfect spot to call home for the weekend, and you should be too! Don’t miss out – grab your tickets at noosaeatdrink.com.au.

PEARLS

HAVE RETURNED WITH REFINED FLAIR, ELEVATING URBAN FASHION

URBAN PEARL AFFAIR

When you first think of pearls, images of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Grace Kelly, and beautiful campaigns by French luxury house Chanel may first come to mind. Well, the classic pearl is enjoying a revival at the moment, but not in the way you’d expect – and we’ve never been more excited to try a new trend.

We’re seeing celebrities and fashionistas style their favourite drip of pearls (we’re talking chokers, multi-strand, and long strand) with oversized graphic tees, sweaters, and blazers in favour of the

more traditional lady-like attire we’re accustomed to (that’s right, say goodbye to styling pearls with strictly preppy ‘fits).

So, how can you ace this look at home you ask? We’d recommend grabbing your fave pair of kicks, an oversized shirt (don’t have one? Why not pay a visit to your partner’s wardrobe?), and, of course, some pearls (real or not, we won’t judge). Pro tip: layer your choice of pearl with different metal necklaces for an extra edge. Are you ready to lean into the urban pearl trend?

The butterfly cut is here to stay, and is a great cutting technique involving layers around the face, with longer layers towards the back to give you an appearance of fuller, thicker hair which gets that butterfly shape. Similar to the bob, this cut is also high maintenance to style, so keep that in mind if you are a low maintenance person.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, 2024 is the year of the bob! You should work with your stylist to ensure the length and style can suit your features, for the most flattering transformation.

This look however can be quite high maintenance to style, so consult your stylist so you can choose a style that suits your lifestyle.

You can add some lowlights to add some dimension which can make your hair appear thicker and fuller!

Subtle shift

Edwards and Co’s Jaye Edwards shares his forecast for the season’s hair trends.

I'm expecting to see a lot of girls transition to richer, and warmer brown tones such as caramel, honey, or chestnut, to add warmth and dimension to the hair amidst the colder weather, where hair often feels dull and dry. I call this a warm toned, Bronde Blends, sparkly bronde, which can be completely customised to suit your features and hair type/texture.

Biscuit Blonde is the new and improved lived-in blonde, and would be a stunning transition for my blondes as we head into cooler months where a traditional blonde could wash you out. This Biscuit Blonde is warm, luxurious and youthful. Defined by those warm, golden shades that offer and on trend alternative to cooler blonde tones that we have seen over summer.

For brunettes, this would involve a lightening service, then toning back to honey perfection. Whereas for blondes, a simple 15 minute gloss service could get you there.

SHE’S MS OCEANIA

True beauty starts on the inside, which is why Lynn White – together with business partner William Tan – has founded a new and empowering pageant designed to connect contestants with leaders in the fashion and beauty industries, while building a vibrant community based on inclusiveness, awareness, and engagement. Ahead of their inaugural Brisbane Coronation and Awards Night Gala, we spoke to Lynn about Ms Oceania and how her own modelling experience inspired her to be the change she wanted to see in the pageant world. Tell us about yourself and your experience in the modelling industry Hailing from Southern Philippines, I moved to Australia in 2007 where I secured a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management. I currently work with women and children at QH Federal Service and have gracefully held a position on the board of directors at the Queensland Filipino Australian Arts Association since 2021. I’m also a certified professional stylist, as well as the CEO of Ms Oceania. Tethered to numerous international women’s organisations, my mission extends beyond aesthetics.

2019 saw my foray into modelling, pageantry, and philanthropy, with a focused commitment to combating domestic violence. In 2022, I represented Mrs Australia in California at the Mrs Globe World Finals. This experience is why I love championing women to utilise their skills for a greater purpose. I am humbly honoured and extremely grateful for the privilege of being involved with Mrs Globe

where I’ve also served as a director in Australia mentoring contestants. How did Ms Oceania all come about? I had a vision to create a beauty pageant that was different from the rest, focusing on service to the community. I wanted to see women from all walks of life be represented and supported to reach their potential best – harnessing their inner and external beauty to support noteworthy causes. What can attendees expect at Ms Oceania? At our inaugural gala on 1 June at Amora Hotel, candidates will present themselves as women with substance, focusing on beauty with a purpose. They’ll showcase their talent through presentations including an opening dance, resort and swimwear, national costume, formal evening gown, Q&As, and share their hard work providing a positive impact to the community. We will recognise the talent in the room with various awards, before announcing our very first Ms Oceania 2024 Grand Winner, who will be our ambassador on a global scale. What are you hoping contestants get out of the experience? I want to pay it forward and provide an opportunity for others. All contestants will learn a lot from the boot camp held in May, and the winner will receive many benefits, such as being featured on a reputable magazine cover, monetary incentive, a world title, and 1:1 mentoring. I encourage all women to pursue their dream to be a queen, have a clearer purpose in life, and be out there serving their chosen cause and community.

Mudrooms are nothing new, they’ve been a staple feature in country homes in America and Britain for decades, but they’ve only recently become popular among Aussie homebuilders and renovators alike.

What is a mudroom you ask? To put simply, a mudroom is traditionally a secondary entrance where people can take off their outdoor clothing, store their sporting equipment, or simply freshen up before entering the house. While not many Australians need a designated area for muddy boots and wet clothing, it’s a great way to minimise clutter throughout the home (that’s right, the dining table will no longer be the dumping ground for sports bags, umbrellas, and other miscellaneous objects).

We spoke with Brisbane Builder Rachael Turner of Front Porch Properties to learn more about the trending home feature and why every busy household needs one.

“A mudroom is your home’s charming first line of defence, serving as a functional buffer between the hustle and bustle of the outside world and the serene interiors of your home,” Rachael says.

“With the Aussie love for the great outdoors, mudrooms serve as the ideal spot to

transition from outdoor adventures to indoor relaxation without bringing the mess inside. Whether it’s sandy feet from the beach or dirty boots from a bushwalk, mudrooms handle it all with ease.”

So, what should a good mudroom include? Well, according to Rachael, it all depends on your space and what you deem most practical. They can include everything from a laundry breakout zone, storage cupboards and cabinets, to a built-in bench and guest bathroom.

Short on space? “For homes without a dedicated space, you could either consider setting up a freestanding mudroom in the garage or you could do it in a little front entryway section as an alternative,” Rachael says, adding any practical, unused wall space within your home can serve as the perfect backdrop for a mudroom ensemble.

“This space not only makes the mudroom more functional, but also improves the guest experience with thoughtful design.”

“It’s important to us that coats, bags, and keys have their own place where they’re easy to grab when you’re heading out.”

Armchair Critique

The MVP of interior styling, the seemingly humble yet highly dynamic accent chair quietly lives in forgotten corners and busy living areas providing both style and functionality to every space it occupies.

What’s the one item of furniture that can go in (almost) any room of your home? An accent chair of course! A quintessential piece of furniture, accent chairs hold a unique status within the interior design world.

Capable of wearing many different hats, an accent chair is often the perfect solution for any design dilemma. Need to fill an unloved corner? Want extra seating for guests? Room begging for a focal point? Throw in an accent chair and you’re problem is solved. Functional yet beautiful, they are a statement piece that have the power to transform the vibe of any space.

Brisbane interior designer, Alison Burke, defines the four core elements of an acccent chair as function, comfort, aesthetic and size. A perfect harmony of these components is the key to an accent chair thriving in a space, and filling the design void you need.

When it comes to style, Alison works with the client to deliver

a piece that fulfils their requirements in all areas. “Regarding style, of course my job is to interpret a client’s look that they’re trying to achieve and where it’s going to be located in the home,” Alison says. Is it a bedroom chair for quick sits to put your shoes on or is it for long lounges in front of the telly? Maybe it’s a corner filler with a more sculptural purpose that doesn't necessarily need to be comfy. It’s crucial to be clear on the purpose of your accent chair so you can cater the design to your requirements. For a spot to perch on lightly, something aesthetic rather than overly cushioned is likely the best option, however for a reading nook you plan to occupy frequently, comfort and durability is paramount.

Speaking of durability, fabric selection is another area Alison emphasises. “The fabric selection can totally affect the experience and the look,” says Alison. If functionality is an important factor for the client, then a robust (yet luxe) fabric like velvet is the best option. However, if aesthetics are prioritised over durability, a fun pattern-printed linen may be chosen over something more sturdy.

So if you’re scratching your head about how your living room, bedroom or even bathroom (yes, really!) can be elevated, don’t overlook an accent chair to be you’re saving grace.

WORDS PENELOPE PELECAS

Hi Philippa, tell us about yourself? Somehow the hardest question to answer! A little bit about me I’ve always had a love for design, whether that’s in fashion or interiors, I have a little Italian greyhound named Victor, who is the sweetest, and seems to run our showroom. How was Fleur Studios born? The idea was born with a desire to create a brand that aligned with our values – timeless design, premium materials and craftsmanship, and fair pricing. We originally began the brand in 2019 and relaunched it late 2022 with a new direction and collection, which has been one of the best decisions we made. Describe the brand: Contemporary and classic, but unexpected. What inspires you most? Always travel. There’s nothing better than experiencing different cultures, meeting new people, enjoying food, and admiring design all over the world. We were in Mexico City recently and there is nothing quite like the architecture there – it’s such an incredible place! What does a normal day look like for you? A normal day starts with a run and swim, then it’s straight to the showroom. Our friends own a beautiful space called The Ocean Club, which we’re lucky enough to work out of. We have our designs on display here and it’s where I photograph everything. From here it really varies, anything from design meetings with Wes to welcoming clients through or working on a new launch – we have a lot planned for this year! How involved are you in the design process? Wesley is the mind behind our designs, his background has been in design for over 15 years, so he is a wealth of knowledge and creativity. I’m forever

inspired by the way he thinks and creates. What are three design components you consider when putting together a new collection? Unique design, beautiful materials, and longevity – we want to love the designs now and in 15 years. Do you have a favourite piece? This is a tough one! Hmm… I’m a die hard for the Cookie, but the Palermo in stainless steel is a new classic. I’m yet to find a space this table doesn’t look good. Have you always envisioned a career in design? My background is in marketing and styling mixed in with a bit of photography. I worked with I Love Linen in marketing a few years ago and then we built our house, which is when I would say my love for interiors really began. I can’t say I knew I would end up where I am now, but I hoped it was going to be something to do with design. I have always gravitated toward interiors and the way a space can impact how you feel. Our homes have such an impact on our daily lives, it’s where we relax and switch off, connect with friends, so it’s important to create a space that represents you. What’s the best advice you’ve ever been given? You are the only one – take care of yourself. What’s next for Fleur Studios? Where to start, we have a lot lined up for this year! We’ve been working a lot with new materials like timber and burl, more stainless steel, and of course marble. We like to focus on the materials, keeping the form somewhat simple so the pieces have a timeless feel but still feel special. Our next collections have been in development for over a year so stay tuned, I promise it’s worth the wait.

Confidence boost

Another month means another property forecast, and things are definitely starting to heat up for the month of April – whether you’re a buyer, seller, or just interested, here’s what you can expect.

Brisbane continues to experience exponential price growth, sitting third in Australia for February figures, with a 0.9 per cent increase in the Home Value Index, according to CoreLogic. The city retains its national second place for the year with 15 per cent growth over the last 12 months despite 13 interest rates hikes since March 2022.

CoreLogic are also seeing early signs of a boost in housing confidence with expectations of an interest rate cut looming later in the year. The market continues to heat up with auction clearance rates rising from a 50 per cent average to the high 60 per cent range, representing that increased confidence and buyers and sellers being more aligned with pricing expectations.

For those planning to pop their house on the market, good news as we anticipate continued low stock levels and a surge in buyer competition. This will mimic the increased confidence from buyers who may have sat out waiting to see what happens. Tune in next month to find out our hot tips and tricks for your property search journey.

VARICOSE VEINS WITH DR NICHOLAS KEMP

You are what you eat

There are somethings you cannot control when it comes to your predisposition for venous disease, such age, and genetics. However positive changes to your lifestyle can be beneficial in potentially slowing the development of varicose veins and reducing symptoms.

Diet is a cornerstone of being healthy. Add these foods to your bowl and they may help your circulatory system perform better.

Avocado is packed with Vitamin C and magnesium that has been shown to knit collagen and elastin together. Which is critical in strengthening endothelial cells in the vein wall and keeping skin structured. ‘Avo’ also contains Vitamin E, a natural anticoagulant that stops platelets sticking and so could minimise blood clot risk.

Omega-3 dense fish such as salmon or tuna boosts cardiovascular wellbeing. Fatty acids and Vitamin D helps blood to circulate more easily, and research has shown a reduction of arterial plaques. Fish also contains Vitamins B6 and B12 vital for breaking down homocysteine, an amino acid that if left unchecked can block and damage blood vessels.

Spice it up and cook with ginger. Studies indicate that ginger can lessen swelling and dissolve fibrin. Fibrin is a protein that can make veins look lumpy or feel hard.

Sprinkle whole grains, seeds and nuts liberally. The fibre in them aids digestion and in turn can prevent constipation. Constipation can put addition pressure on your lower body and the venous system.

Finally, help yourself to that dark chocolate bar! Cocoa contains flavanols (plant-based antioxidant also found in colourful fruit and veggies) which has been widely used in alternative medicine because of its known anti-inflammatory properties.

STYLING TIPS WITH MARK FERGUSON

Racewear.. As it should be..

In this era, where workwear meanders ever more towards the casual, the Stradbroke Season stands as a sanctuary of sartorial splendour— it symbolises a silent protest against the relentless tide of informality. The dress code remains defiantly, gloriously oldfashioned with waistcoats that button up like the tight lips of bets whispered between gentlemen, formal trousers as straight and true as the track itself, and ties which embellish the colourful arena. This is not merely clothing; it is the very fabric of tradition, paying homage to the regal ancestry of the sport.

To don such attire is to elevate oneself from the mundane into the realm of spectacle and history. It unites the audience in a collective act of respect—not just for the sport but for the craftsmanship and artistry of classical menswear. This insistence on a high dress standard is a wall against the encroaching casualness, a statement in which elegance and tradition still command respect. No matter if there has been a relaxing of standards, hold yourself to only the highest standard, wrap yourself in the threads of excellence.

Called to excellence

In its seamless integration of faith and learning, Citipointe Christian College empowers students to reach their full potential.

A well-rounded education isn’t just about maths and history; it’s seeing each student as an individual with a unique purpose, and supporting them to achieve their personal best. It’s also how Citipointe Christian College has helped thousands of students and alumni make positive contributions to society both locally and overseas for 46 years – and counting.

“Our goal is to provide a robust curriculum with Christian worldview perspectives, taught effectively by caring staff in a supportive environment,” said Principal Ruth Gravestein, who has been with Citipointe for over 30 years. “As principal, it is an exciting privilege to pursue the best outcomes for students, encourage staff, and build community with parents across Prep to Year 12.”

The teachers at Citipointe Christian College certainly practice what they preach, and this holistic approach has brought great success to their students, with Citipointe’s 2023 NAPLAN results placing them second in Queensland for primary school. “Effective teaching is based on strong relationships where a teacher knows their students and they feel safe and cared for,” said Principal Gravestein. “Our teachers are flexible, so they can meet individual student needs while delivering lessons that are engaging and memorable.”

Setting high goals and instilling academic rigour across learning is only one of the many core values taught at Citipointe. The leading private school believes in high quality education, reflecting Christ’s love

for people and the world, and honouring Jesus by upholding the College spirit. “The development of the Christian character is at the core of what we seek to accomplish through the education we provide.”

All are welcome to experience the Citipointe difference, with over 35 nationalities represented in their community. From teaching English as an additional language or dialect to their extensive cocurricular programs, Citipointe’s collaborative efforts have resulted in graduates defined by their faith, integrity, respect, and excellence. Building long standing relationships is at the heart of this ministry, and in its fourth decade, the College is seeing an increasing number of alumni returning to enrol their children for a Citipointe education.

Continuing to grow from strength to strength, Citipointe is currently planning an expansion of their primary school to accommodate the growth in enrolment applications. “We enjoy hearing from our stakeholders – our students, parents, and staff – and their perspectives are helping to inform our strategic and master plans,” said Principal Gravestein.

“The university courses taken by our alumni, their career pathways, and their presence across the world are a testament to the success and effectiveness of Citipointe. It has been my honour to be part of this ministry for three decades and to see what can be accomplished when staff, students and parents work together to achieve a high quality Christian education.”

Brain boosters

Here are five everyday ways to keep your family’s mind nimble and increase memory, creativity, and problem-solving skills.

KEEP A JOURNAL

Self-reflection can turn even the most boring day into a learning opportunity! Studies have shown that keeping a journal can increase critical thinking, help you form focused arguments, and improve your emotional intelligence. Taking a moment for mindfulness is also great for the memory bank.

EAT FISH

You are what you eat, so feeding your brain the right nutrients is important to maximise function. Omega-3 fatty acids make up the brain’s structural building blocks, so ensure your diet is rich in the good stuff by adding oily fish, seaweed, avocados, or nuts into your meal plan. Bon appetit!

TAKE NAPS

Like the way Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, or Salvador Dali think? Then do what they do and add a cat nap into the schedule. Scientifically proven to enhance a range of cognitive skills, a quick nap can help turn on your brain’s creative switch while catching up on any lost zzz’s.

PLAY VIDEO GAMES

Yep, you read that right – video games can actually be good for the brain. In moderation, video games can improve decision-making skills and focus, as well as spatial visualisation, memory, and mood. After all, navigating the virtual world can involve just as much strategy, concentration, and analysis as the real one!

From stimulating neural pathways to learning new topics, reading widely and deeply can help sharpen a variety of cognitive functions. Think of your mind as a muscle – reading a chapter a day is all it takes to make it stronger and keep your brain in tip-top shape.
