olsom residents will soon get to try a food trend that’s gaining momentum—a poke restaurant called PokiOlogy is set to open this month in the Broadstone Marketplace at 2700 East Bidwell Street, Suite 400. Poke bowls generally feature cubed raw fish in a marinade, alongside garnishes, and are oftentimes served over rice or salad... Other new food favorites coming to Folsom include Dunkin’ Donuts (9601 Greenback Lane) and The Waffle Experience (13405 Folsom Boulevard)... Sprouts Farmers Market, a grocer specializing in natural and organic produce, has confirmed opening a new location off East Bidwell Street...The muchanticipated Nordstrom Rack at the Palladio at Broadstone, which sells Nordstrom clothing, accessories and shoes at prices up to 70-percent off, opened its doors on April 28... TEAMRide, a popular and locally owned cycling studio with locations in East Sacramento and Midtown, is opening a third location in Folsom this summer. The new studio will be located in the Broadstone Marketplace shopping center... Celeste Tauchar, a 2012 Folsom High School graduate, was selected as a finalist in this year’s Guitar Center Songwriter Competition, chosen from over 14,000 contestants across the nation. As Celestial, she performed two songs at the final show at the famous Troubadour Club in Los Angeles. For more info, visit celestial-sounds.com... In more food news, the fast-casual Mexican restaurant Costa Vida Fresh Mexican Grill has opened in the Broadstone Center of Folsom. The eatery offers a unique approach to favorite Mexican dishes... Carnivores can rejoice! Adam’s Meat Shop—specializing in custom meat cuts and wild-game meats—recently opened at 850 East Bidwell Street in Folsom... Having served at the Pentagon, Commander Kevin Macy from El Dorado relieved Commander Edward Robledo and assumed the duties and responsibilities of commanding officer for the Henry M. Jackson Gold Crew—one of eight Ohio-class ballistic-missile submarines homeported at the Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor... El Dorado Union High School District is proud to announce their three administrators honored at this year’s regional Association of California School Administrators “Administrator of the Year Awards Ceremony.” Aaron Palm (current interim principal at Oak Ridge High School), Mike Ziegler (counselor at Union Mine High School) and Dan Augino (director of maintenance, operations and facilities) were all awarded for their efforts in improving the academic environment... S
ometimes it’s right under your nose. I had been hearing of this “great little Mexican restaurant on Natoma Street” for years, so when given the chance to check it out, I jumped. Everyone has that favorite Mexican dish that they use as a barometer for the eatery in general, and mine is fajitas. So you’ll never guess what I ordered – yep, the Chicken Chimichanga! Every review I read about their fajitas was glowing so I thought I would mix it up. The chicken was perfectly cooked and all the ingredients, including the flavorful guacamole, were excellent. In an area with so many fast food Mexican restaurants, its little places like this that help you really separate the mass marketed franchise food from the real thing. This wonderful little spot exudes authenticity. Service was good, wait time minimal, and value was at the top of the chart. Don’t run for the border – run to La Rosa Blanca!
