Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Harris Center for the Arts. When the Harris Center opened in 2011, we promised to take the community on a journey. Now, more than 1,500 performances later, we’re well down the road. We’ve visited with artists from more than 50 countries, experienced the magic of two dozen Broadway shows, and shared special moments with some of today’s top entertainers. Our community partners (page 15)
have grown in strength and numbers, and the artistic work by Folsom Lake College students and faculty, whether in the visual arts, music, theatre or dance (page 14), is dazzling. If it’s your first time to the Center, we’re glad that you’ve decided to hop on board and give us a try, and hope you’ll be back once you’ve experienced a great show, up close, in one of our three state-of-the art venues (page 9). This fall the artistic adventures continue. To commemorate the Center’s Fifth Anniversary Season, we’ve brought back some of the most popular touring shows from our first year, among them the National Acrobats of China, Jose Porcel’s flamenco company from Spain, Hal Holbrook’s Mark Twain Tonight! and STOMP. Plenty of new shows are in the lineup as well, like the national tour of Woody Allen’s hilarious new musical comedy Bullets Over Broadway which will make its northern California debut here in January. These are just some of the hundreds of concerts, theatre and dance shows heading our way this season (page 60). Even more than its arts, entertainment and educational offerings, at its core, the Center is all about community. From the process by which it was conceived and built, to the volunteers who escort you to your seat, to the local artists who have made the Center their home, to you the patron, it’s about serving the larger aspiration of bringing us together to share and learn about one another, ourselves, and the world we live in. About Folsom Lake College Growing to Meet the Needs of Our Region
Since receiving its initial accreditation in 2004, Folsom Lake College has provided exceptional educational opportunities to the growing communities of eastern Sacramento and western El Dorado counties. The college currently serves approximately 8,100 students each semester at the main Folsom campus, the El Dorado Center in Placerville, and the Rancho Cordova Center. Inside the Harris Center for the Arts: Three Stages and more...
Stage One: 850-seat Theater. With a 46-foot proscenium, full stage house, and orchestra pit, this is a venue capable of presenting all of the arts, from Broadway to symphonies, contemporary dance to world music. Stage One puts the art close to the audience.
In addition to its three stages, this $50 million, 80,000 square foot regional arts complex contains: Bank of America Gallery. A wonderful space located near the front entrance to provide visual art exhibitions national, regional, local, and student. Black Box. A flexible space perfect for a rehearsal, a sit-down dinner, to teach a class, or to create a work of art. Recording Studio. One of the largest in the capital region. Most every space in the center can be recorded live, audio or visual, at the press of a button. Guild Mortgage Lobby. A unique gathering place for the audience, for friends, for a conversation with the artist afterwards. Ample auxiliary spaces including rehearsal spaces, scene shop, costume shop, classrooms, and more. All venues boast state-of-the-art sound and lighting equipment, with digital projectors.

Stage Two: 200-seat City Studio Theater. Named by the City of Folsom, the City Studio has gently raked seating and, like the larger theater next door, there's not a bad seat in the house. Stage Three: 100-seat Scott-Skillman Recital Hall. An exceptional setting for acoustic music and vocals - the reverberation is exquisite. Selections from the Annual Folsom Lake College Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition The Bank of America Gallery exhibits six shows annually, including works of art by college faculty, students, local, regional, national, and international artists. The art gallery is open Tuesday-Thursday from noon to 2 pm as well as one hour before and during intermission of performances. Admission is free. 2015 Fall Exhibitions EL Dorado Hills Arts Association 7/10/15 – 8/30/15 The El Dorado Hills Arts Association Annual Membership Show, “Artistic Expressions,” features over 40 pieces of professional and accomplished artists covering both 2D and 3D works. Mike Bagdonas, a local artist, is the judge for this year’s show. Mike has received many awards at both national and international shows for his work in oils. 15th Annual FLC Visual Arts Faculty Exhibition 9/4/15 – 11/8/15 This exhibition displays the works of FLC Visual Arts faculty who have exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally. The visual arts faculty is composed of professional artists with diverse specializations encompassing the spectrum of classes offered, from
elementary drawing, painting, and sculpture, to metalsmithing and everything in between. The artwork exhibited reflects a wide range of media and styles, and the technical proficiency each artist has achieved in their field. Area High School Invitational 11/13/15 – 1/10/16 The Folsom Lake College Visual Arts Department is proud to host an exhibition displaying the artworks of FLC’s service area high school students. FLC and area high school faculty collaborated to identify and promote the students in their artistic endeavors and enrich their creative experience.

Spotlight on Folsom Lake College: Dance
Students of dance at Folsom Lake College not only learn how to perform a variety of classical and contemporary styles with proper technique and kinesthetic awareness, they also learn to identify the pioneers of dance history, understanding the sociocultural and historical context of each style. Dance education at FLC is holistic, cultivating a broad understanding of dance as a movement theory and art form, guiding students in the analysis of dance as culturally meaningful. Students can earn an Associate of Arts Degree in Dance Studies from Folsom Lake College, which paves the way for possible employment opportunities in a dance-related field or transfer as a dance major to a four-year institution. The Folsom Lake College Dance Program offers courses in Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip-Hop, Dance Composition and Production, Musical Theatre Dance, Intro to Dance, Dance Pedagogy, Theory and Practice, Work Experience in Dance, and World Dance History. At the end of each semester, students enrolled in FLC dance classes can perform publicly as part of Evening of Dance, a showcase that also features work by the MOSAIC Dance Company. Folsom Lake College's MOSAIC Dance Company is a dance family of diverse ages, ethnicities, shapes and sizes, as well as varying social and cultural backgrounds. The dancers in MOSAIC perform an array of styles including

Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Hip-Hop, Contemporary and Lyrical, Theatre Dance, and ethnic forms such as Polynesian, Classical Indian Bharata Natyam and Kathak, West African, Brazilian Samba, Balinese Legong, Classical Chinese dance and Folklorico. Acting as ambassadors for the greater Sacramento community, MOSAIC performs and tours throughout California. Its outreach and educational projects include regular visits to the Sacramento Children’s Home, local elementary schools and the Folsom Empire Ranch Alzheimer's Facility. FACULTY Debi Davis Worth Professor of Dance Dance Department Chair Director, MOSAIC Dance Company After twelve years living, dancing and teaching in L.A., New York, London and Japan, Debi Worth returned home to the Sacramento area bringing her experience and passion for dance to the students at Folsom Lake College. While in high school, she secured her first professional contract with Music Circus's Broadway Series Camelot, and from there toured the U.S. and internationally, including a trip to the Island Kingdom of Tonga to dance for King Toupou's 78th birthday on the palace grounds. Ms. Worth's professional dance career was in musical theatre, after which she moved to Japan for three years to teach
English and take a post as producer and choreographer for the musical theatre group, Hokkaido Players, and was invited to choreograph a showcase for the NHK televised Yosakoi Soran Dance Festival of Sapporo City. She completed her Master's degrees in Cultural Anthropology and Dance Studies at the University of Surrey, Roehampton in London while she taught in the University's dance department. Professor Worth developed and now guides the dance program at Folsom Lake College, including direction of MOSAIC Dance Company, as well as collaborative projects involving the Folsom Lake College Dance, Theatre, Music and Visual Arts departments, and choreographing The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2012), Mussorgsky Celebration (2013) and Spring Awakening (2014). Partner Focus: Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre Community Partners Some of the most respected arts organizations in the region have made the Center their home. These partners share the goal of improving the quality of life in the region by providing access to more art for more audiences in the newest arts facility in the region.
The Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre (PHCBT) is a pre-professional, non-profit ballet company dedicated to the preservation of classical ballets. PHCBT is committed to maintaining a repertoire that combines timeless classics such as Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, and Les Sylphides, one of the oldest ballets still danced today. Be a witness to breathtaking sets and costumes as only Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre can deliver. PHCBT productions are truly a delight for all ages. This coming holiday season lifts PHCBT's production of The Nutcracker to a higher level with live orchestral accompaniment by members of the Folsom Symphony under the direction of Maestro Peter Jaffe! With a studio in El Dorado Hills, the company has been performing and training dancers for more than twenty years. The studio focuses on training bodies for a lifetime of dancing, free of the injuries that cut so many young dancers’ dreams short. Among many ballet disciplines, the Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre bases its training in the Royal Academy of Dance, the largest teaching organization in the world. Along with classical ballet training, PHCBT is pleased to offer classes in Lyrical Jazz, Tap, and Modern to students starting at age 3 to adult. Pamela Hayes, Artistic Director: Born and raised in England, Pamela Hayes trained and began her professional career with the Royal Ballet in London. During an exciting and successful performing career that took her all over the world, Pamela had the opportunity to dance many traditional and varied roles, including the Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker. Performing with the Oregon Ballet Theatre, Ballet Oregon, Ballet West, and Eugene Ballet, Pamela discovered another art form: teaching and passing on the knowledge and training she had taken for granted. Pamela believes strongly in the power of solid, pure training, which can lift a modestly talented dancer into a beautiful and even great dancer. Her teaching is internationally recognized for anatomical and artistic cleanliness, purity, and attention to detail. Pamela is very proud to present the Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre, which under her artistic direction continues to bring classical ballets of the highest quality to our community. Known for its unique entertainment approach and wonderful costuming, Pamela Hayes Classical Ballet Theatre will once again present the classic holiday tale, The Nutcracker, playing December 17-20 at the Harris Center, alongside Maestro Peter Jaffe and members of the Folsom Symphony. "Weird Al" Yankovic − The Mandatory World Tour Sunday, August 30, 2015; 7 pm Monday, August 31, 2015; 7 pm Few would have guessed that “Weird Al” Yankovic, who as a shy, accordion-playing teenager, got his start sending in homemade tapes to the Dr. Demento Radio Show, would go on to become the biggest-selling comedy recording artist in history with over 12 million album sales. Now in his fourth career decade, he has won 4 Grammys (with 14 nominations) and countless awards and accolades for Weird Al classics like “Eat It,” “Like a Surgeon,” “Fat,” “Smells Like Nirvana,” “Amish Paradise,” and “The Saga Begins.” His 2011 album Alpocalypse (featuring the Lady Gaga parody "Perform This Way") debuted in the Billboard Top 10, and was nominated for two Grammy Awards (Best Comedy Album and Best Short Form Video). In addition to his recordings and world-famous music videos, Yankovic is also well-known for his cult-hit feature film UHF (1989), his late ‘90s CBS Saturday morning series, The Weird Al Show, and the numerous AL-TV specials that he’s made for MTV and VH1 over the years. The album features parodies of some of the biggest hits of the past year, including Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” (“Tacky”), Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines” (“Word Crimes”), Lorde’s “Royals” (“Foil”), Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” (“Handy”) and Imagine Dragons’ “Radioactive” (“Inactive”). The album also features several inspired originals and pastiches (“Lame Claim to Fame,” “Sports Song,” “My Own Eyes,” “Mission Statement,” “First World Problems,” and “Jackson Park Express”), along with Al’s latest accordion-fueled medley, “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!" Mandatory Fun debuted at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. This is the first time that a comedy album has debuted at #1 on the chart in history, and the first time that a comedy album has reached the top of the chart in over 50 years (the last one being Allan Sherman’s 1963 release, My Son, the Nut). It was also Al’s personal best sales week ever, as well as the largest sales week for any comedy album since 1994. On Spotify, Yankovic set the US record for having the most tracks from one album in the viral top 10 at one time, taking the first 4 spots. The album performed well internationally, debuting in the Top 10 in both Canada and Australia (#3 and #9 respectively). The Drunken Beauty Amidst hundreds of flowers in bloom, the imperial concubine in the Forbidden City admires the full moon while drinking and toasting. Hanging on the swing of a trapeze, the actress performs a variety of stunts. Beneath her, the beautiful maids of the palace perform the spinning plates.
4. Martial Art Inspired by Chinese philosophy and legend, Chinese martial art combines hard and soft elements with the philosophical principles of Yin and Yang. Actors strike, kick, throw, and jump onstage in a jubilant manifestation of freedom and boldness. 5. Solo On A Pole This performance represents a perfect combination of energy and beauty beyond compare. 6. Contortion With Carpets Spinning In the Forbidden City, the Emperor and his maids drink wine and dance. Artfully waving long sleeves, the maids sway and twirl with a tapestry. This act is a combination of dancers long sleeves in classical Chinese dance, contortion, carpet spinning, and a reflection of suppleness and beauty. 7. Hoop Diving Everyone is merely a transient guest in Beijing, a fast -developing modern city, and each visitor is prone to a sense of loneliness. The actors perform with enormous vitality, spirit and extraordinary skills in a perfect representation of Peking culture. Intermission 1. Diabolo Diabolo has a long history in China, initially as a game in the Imperial Palace and then becoming popular among the greater population. The diabolo craze swept Peking and to this day is known to every household there. The diabolo comes alive in the hands of the girls who fly backwards and forwards, allowing us to see the quickness, gracefulness and even humor of the performers. 2. Aerial Silk A boy from Peking is handsome and forthright; a girl from Peking is beautiful and elegant. From acquaintance to friendship, and from friendship to love, the couple represents a moving, romantic story. The actor and actress move and dance with remarkable skill on the colored silk high above the floor. They at times express tender and romantic sentiments, hugging tightly, and at other times gaze deeply into each other's eyes, deeply emphasizing the sentiment and glamour.
3. Umbrellas, Feet Juggling & Hula Hoops In autumn, the weather of Beijing is unpredictable, sometimes sunny and peaceful, and sometimes raging and stormy. Dexterous and quick in action, the performer juggles umbrellas by feet. The umbrellas fly on the girl’s feet and the hoops twirl around the other girls. This act demonstrates the flexibility and beauty of the Chinese circus and acrobatic art. 4. Straw Hats Juggling In old Peking, a rich family marries off their daughter and many people take part in the merry-making. The actors perform various stunts while holding straw hats and spinning them high in the air in this humorous and popular program. 5. Bicycle Stunts This act is based on a famous Peking Opera story: The Generals of the Yang Family. Accompanied by music and dressed in the costume of women warriors, the acrobatic girls execute spectacular and stunning tricks on their bicycles. 6. Final act: Balancing On High Chairs The Great Wall, the greatest miracle created by the people of China, is recognized as a symbol of Peking. It has witnessed thousands of years of Chinese culture; it has heard the drums of war roaring; it has seen countless dynasties rise and fall; it can tell of the vicissitudes of history. In this piece, the actor flawlessly executes various stunning and breathtaking movements on stacked-up chairs. 7. Finale The final act ends with a finale featuring all performers! BIOGRAPHY The National Circus and Acrobats of The People’s Republic of China were founded in 1958, and since that time the company has been dedicated to the innovation of and excellence in the circus and acrobatic art. It has produced a large number of excellent circus and acrobatic acts with distinctive Chinese national style and characteristics. The company’s "Juggling Benches with Feet" won gold medals at the 11th World Acrobatic Championship in Britain in 1986 and the 10th Cirque de Demain Festival in France in 1987. In 1990, it again won the Gold Medal at Korea’s “Spring of April” Art Festival together with the company’s other act, "Hula Hoops." The act of "Balance on Double Planks" won the Silver Clown at the 14th Monte Carlo International Circus Festival in Monaco in 1989. The act "Aerial Silk" won the Silver Medal at the 5th China Wuhan International Acrobatics Festival in 2002. In October 2003, at Second Brazilian International Acrobatics Competition, the company won the Golden Award with the act of "High Chairs Stacking" which also later won the Golden K medal in Monte Carlo at the 17th Premiere Stage International Circus Festival in February

National Acrobats and Circus of the People's Republic of China continued 2005. In 2006, the "Balance on High Chairs" received the Golden Elephant Prize at the sixth Moscow International Circus Festival. In 2012, the company again won the Golden Medal at the 2nd International Circus Festival in Spain and Silver Medal at the 6th International Festival of Circus Art in Russia. Many other acts of the troupe were also rewarded gold medals, silver medals and other prizes at national acrobatics and magic competitions in China. In recent years, the show productions of the company like City of Springs and Peking Dreams have been highly praised by domestic and international audiences. Many of the company’s acrobats were employed by Cirque du Soleil to perform the "Lasso" in Tokyo Disney’s Cirque du Soleil Theater for more than two years and by the French Cirque’s Arlette Gruss National Tour in 2014. In 2000, the company’s "Grand Girl Bicycle" was also performed for the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey Circus. Representing China, the company has visited and performed in more than 50 countries and regions including Japan, the United States of America, Romania, Hungary, Germany, Russia, Brazil, Singapore, Pakistan, Britain, France, Spain, South & North Korea, Indonesia, Colombia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, among many others, making great contributions to the role of China’s national acrobatic and circus art on the international scene. This production was performed for the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and has been performed for more than 600 shows in front of more than 400,000 people in China, Europe, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan. History of the Chinese Circus The origin of the Chinese circus is something of a debate. However, what is clear is that it is an ancient art. First records date back over 2000 years to the Qin Dynasty (221-207 BC) when China was unified by the First Emperor Qin Shi Huang. It is believed that the art actually started about 3000 years ago.
Some believe that the circus evolved out of the Imperial Court performers, something similar to court jesters in Medieval Europe. These performances, however, tended to be quite formal and staid, and it is believed that the adaptation of some of these acts into popular performances for the people in turn became popular with the ruling classes. Given the age of the art, it is likely that the circus was in fact a folk art which was later adopted by the imperial houses. The ancient Chinese came to call the circus “the show of a hundred tricks.” Rather like in Europe, families became involved in the circus, and a family tradition developed with skills being passed from generation to generation. The most famous Circus families were well known. In 1949, following many years of decline because of war, the art received a boost from the government of the People’s Republic of China as an art form to be preserved. There are over 200 circus and acrobatic troupes within China today and most of them have toured around the world. Within China, acrobats in the circus troupes are regarded with respect and admiration. Training begins as early as four years old. Specific acts training with the troupe may begin by the age of eight. Basic training − balancing, tumbling, dancing, flexibility and strength − is given in the first early years. Although some children can perform at early ages, normally performers start their career in their mid-teens. There are many classical acts. But after 1949, Chinese circus troupes have all developed into non-animal performing companies concentrating on developing human performing acts. Particular to Chinese circus is the dancing lions. This act is rooted in Buddhism. The lion is a Buddhist symbol of good fortune, and rivals the dragon as the most auspicious animal to guard against evil. The lion is also the animal depicted in Buddhism as the carrier of wisdom. The lion dance is a display of balance, co-ordination and strength combined into one. The ease with which the two acrobats within the lion’s costume perform as one belies the difficulty of the act.

Gene was often very modest and found it difficult to express his contribution in the first person. In one characteristic summation, he said casually, “I took things as I found them and when I left them they were different. I have to take a little credit for that.” He frequently left notes for me to find in books and other publications; marginalia that revealed his thoughts about a number of subjects. Often, the markings provided a kind of trail for me to follow to understand him better and to learn things that he could not comfortably say about himself. Leafing through a copy of Magill’s Cinema Annual after Gene died, I found the following passage that he had marked in
brackets: “As a choreographer and a director, Kelly explored the possibilities of dance on film in a way that transformed the musical and gave birth to a wedding of cinematic and choreographic techniques that remains unsurpassed.” Though it was wrenching to see Gene’s familiar squiggles in the margins next to the words — as they reminded me both of his presence and of his tremendous absence — I was glad to know that he had read and noted such a fitting tribute to his achievements and that he had thought to share that moment with me. © 2014 Patricia Ward Kelly
A Personal Note from Patricia Ward Kelly I had the privilege of recording Gene’s words nearly every day for over a decade. Some of these sessions took the form of lengthy, formal interviews; others were more intimate — hastily scribbled notes on cocktail napkins and sugar packs as we sat listening to music in piano bars late into the night. While our conversations covered many topics over the years, one concern always stood out: how Gene wished to be remembered. Though he is perhaps best known for his brilliant dancing and captivating screen presence, Gene wanted to be recognized more for his innovative work behind the camera and, particularly, for “changing the look of dance on film.”

John Anderson Sunday, September 27, 2015; 7 pm
To put it simply, John Anderson is one of the greatest country music singers to ever step up to the microphone, possessing one of the most instantly recognizable vocal instruments in the history of the genre. On his latest album Goldmine, released on his own Bayou Boys label, Anderson has completed a long overdue record of original songs. The award-winning songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album's 13 tracks. That will bring joy to the hearts of the most devoted fans in country music. Goldmine is a record that could find a home among lovers of authentic music of any genre, much like Cash and Haggard were able to do before him. Though he would never compare himself to his heroes, the fact remains that John Anderson is now the standard bearer for traditional country music of the 100 proof variety. Raised in Apopka, Fla., Anderson was exposed to both rock and traditional country growing up and, as incendiary rock outfits like Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Lynyrd Skynyrd honed their chops around him, learned to love (and play) both types of music. But Anderson resisted the call of rock 'n roll, electing rather to pursue his country music dreams. It was the traditional country ballads that lured him in and changed music history, songs like Porter Wagoner's "Green, Green Grass of Home." "I loved those type of ballads," Anderson says, "to the point I didn't want to get away from it. Anderson moved to Nashville in 1972, working contruction by day (including work as a roofer at the Grand Ole Opry House), and playing the honky-tonks at night. He signed to Warner Bros. in 1977, notching his first major hit in 1980 with Billy Jo Shaver's "I'm Just an Old Chunk of Coal (But I'm Gonna Be a Diamond Someday)." Other hits, including the classic "Wild and Blue" in 1982, solidified his status as a powerful new voice in country music. "Swingin'," written by Anderson and Lionel Delmore, blew the roof off a year later, exploding to No.1 on the Billboard Country chart, propelling Anderson to winning the CMA Horizon Award, and becoming one of the most enduring hits in the country canon. Anderson plowed through the ebbs and flows of country music (and the country music business) throughout the '80s, and in the early 90s, engineered one of the greatest "comeback" runs (he never really left) in the history of the genre. Seminole Wind, released on BNA, produced hit singles with "Straight Tequila Night," "When It Comes To You," "Money in the Bank," and the stirring title cut. The latter would have never been released had Anderson not stuck to his guns, a familiar refrain throughout his career as the artist has wound his way through virtually all of Nashville's major labels.

No such clashes occurred in creating Goldmine, an album cut with the artist in complete control. Produced by Anderson with longtime collaborator Joe Spivey, Goldmine is an artist achievement, recorded the way the singer intended. "With Goldmine, I thought, first off, I'm going to take my songs into the studio and make a record like I think it ought to be made, without all those other influences," he says. "I really don't need a lot of help to make a John Anderson record, and this record pretty much processes that. In fact, I'm more pleased with the sound of this record than I have been in a long time. It's easy to see why. Goldmine has generous helpings of everything John Anderson does well, and he does a lot of things very well. The record has it all: a swampy, cautionary anthem in the crowd-rousing "Freedom Isn't Free," rollicking mid-tempos like the roadhouse boogie (and Merle Haggardpenned) "Magic Mama," "I Work A Lot Better," and the hookladen title cut. Also included are deeply moving ballads in the traditional country style in "Back Home," and "I Will Cross O'er the River." There is an abundance of romance in the haunting "Happily Ever After," and, in a contemplative tribute to fans, "You All Are Beautiful." Then there are the indefinable, compelling set pieces that only John Anderson could deliever. "Louisiana Son of a Beast," with its swagger, swamp cats, and wild hogs, is an exercise in backwoods mythology. "Holdin' On" is a regretdrenched ballad in the vein of "I Just Came Home to Count the Memories." The wistful "On and On and On...," builds a panoramic musical soundscape.

Beyond the inspired vocals and ambitions songwriting (Anderson was inducted to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame on Oct. 5, 2014), the singer credits his handpicked studio musicians with the tasteful authenticity of Goldmine, which boasts a musicality light years from the over-produced bombast frequently found on contemporary country airwaves. “It’s all about knowing the right guys to call, and most all of the guys that played on this record are old friends, aside from being great musicians,” Anderson says, adding that he’s not keen on having the studio players take their cues from demos or scratch vocals. Instead, Anderson plays the song live in the studio and lets the pickers do what they do. “For the most part, all my bigger records have been cut that way,” he explains. “I don’t want a fully-orchestrated demo trying to tell these guys what to do; all they get out of that is the interpretation of what some others guys have played. Why would you call your favorite players in the world and try to tell them to play like so-and-so played on the demo? I think that would be very foolish, myself. I want that record to be about that song. I play it just how I want it, and then me and Joe would figure out who would take the solos and the fills.” The end result, “is the real [thing]," Anderson decrees, “Creativity as it happens.” This is the best way to experience John Anderson: un-distilled, the way he has historically been able to cut records “only when I could get away with it,” he says, “and then all of a sudden we need more direction. Through 40 years, I’ll say this, I did my best work when I wasn’t directed or ‘helped’ by anybody else. The records show. I mean they really show.”
Anderson knows in his heart that fans of traditional country music “could use a record like this really bad right now,” he asserts. “People ask what’s happened to country music, well, nothing’s happened to it. It’s just being overshadowed by ‘bro country’ right now. I’m just glad they found a name for it.” An unrepentant road dog, Anderson’s touring career has never wavered, as he and his crack band play to packed houses filled with “the most loyal fans anybody ever have, and I do indeed appreciate them supporting our music for all these years,” he says. “Their love of the music has only gotten better.” He adds that it’s still a thrill when he hears the words, “Ladies and gentlemen, John Anderson,” and marvels that, more often than not, the crowds stands up and cheer on just those words. “That’s something in my younger days I never really dreamed I’d see,” he says with a laugh, “a standing ovation before ever you ever open your mouth. Man, sometimes you just want to wave and smile real big, ‘thank you very much, I don’t guess we can beat that. That was great, God bless, and thank you, have a good evening!’” Though the creative fires still burn, John Anderson is a satisfied man, confident in his art, as evidenced in the power of Goldmine, a record done on his terms. “All those people I fought with over the music, most of them are dead now, or retired. They don’t even have nothing to do with music now,” he says. “I’m still plowing away, man, and I love it.”
Despite his music biz travails, Anderson, who has made his home in Smithville, TN, for more than 30 years, is far from a bitter man. Rather, he feels more than blessed, and subscribes to the mentality expressed in Goldmine’s compelling “Don’t forget to Thank the Lord.” “I’m real lucky that songs like ‘Swingin’ or ‘Seminole Wind’ ever even got on the record or were released as singles, and the people that were working with me at the time could tell you that’s true,” he says, recalling epic studio battles fought, “strictly over the music and the songs. It wasn’t because I was an ass or an addict or nothing else. Strictly over the music. And if it ever comes up again, I’ll still fight like hell for the music. The difference is, now I can fight with myself. So it’s becoming quite the short fight.” In a Country Music Hall of Fame-worthy career that has produced 23 albums, more than 60 singles (20 reaching the Top 10), and a wealth of industry awards, Goldmine proves that there’s still a lot of gold in John Anderson. Now, two decades past the dizzying heights of Seminole Wind, Anderson’s motivations have shifted fully from commercial aspirations to unimpeded artistic integrity. “At this point, it’s just for me and the fans,” he says. “A best-case scenario for me is that the fans that have loved our music and have supported us for many years, if they know Goldmine is out there and can get it, I’ll be happy.”

A PLAY BY MICHAEL MILLIGAN DIRECTED BY TOM OPPENHEIM Mercy Killers is in the tradition of American playwrights from Arthur Miller and Clifford Odets, to Tony Kushner and Anna Deavere Smith in capturing political and social reality in powerful story and unforgettable character. “Over 60% of all bankruptcies in the U.S. are the result of medical debt, says Milligan. What most people don’t realize is that the majority of those bankruptcies, the person involved actually had insurance at the onset of their health crises.” This discovery led him to collect stories from people suffering financial disaster on top of chronic illnesses. After hearing many horror stories of victims of the growing dysfunction of the American health care system, Milligan worked to put a human face on what he believed was a national tragedy. Since Edinburgh, productions of Mercy Killers have been non-stop in Off-Broadway theaters, colleges and universities, performing arts centers, church basements, living rooms and the floors of state legislatures. National and state healthcare advocacy groups have sponsored events and partnered with arts presenters. Post-show discussions and forums have represented varying points of view on health care with people often sharing their own health care story. All of which has lead Milligan to take issue with the notion of “divide” on the issue. “In our polarized culture, he says, “we tend to vilify one another or, rather, we accept too easily the vilification served by the beneficiaries of a divided populous. My experience acting and interacting with audiences around the country has taught me that we as a people are much more than the two dimensional caricatures our political masters would like us to be.” MICHAEL MILLIGAN (Playwright and Actor) Michael Milligan has been writing and acting for the theater for almost two decades. Milligan has appeared on the Broadway stage as Little Charles in August: Osage County, De Bries in La Bete, and as a ‘raver’ and understudy in Jerusalem. No stranger to the one man show, Milligan performed Will Eno’s Thom Pain in the original New York run, taking over from James Urbaniak and T. Ryder Smith at the DR2. Other New York credits include The Golem with Robert Prosky, the world premiere of The Empty Ocean with Harold Clurman Theater Lab, and Nightlands with New Georges. He also received 4 Stars for his performance of Lanford Wilson’s one-man show, Poster of the Cosmos, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The performance which also earned him Best Actor nods in his hometown, Columbus, Ohio. Milligan’s other produced plays include Heroine, Urgent: Aliens, and a musical adaptation of Aesop’s Fables for Circle in the Square with composer/ rocker, Joziah Longo, of Gandalf Murphy and the Slambovian Circus of Dreams. A reading of Milligan’s verse play, Phaeton was presented by the Harold Clurman LabTheater featuring Mark Rylance, David Hyde Pierce, and Joanna Lumley. His adaptation of Jack London’s The Sea Wolf has undergone several workshops and readings, featuring Jay O. Sanders as the enigmatic Wolf Larsen.

TOM OPPENHEIM (Producer and Director) In his position as Artistic Director and President of the Stella Adler Studio of Acting for over 15 years, Tom Oppenheim has articulated a mission, engaged top faculty, structured a world-class training program, and created a cultural center. Tom originated the Harold Clurman Laboratory Theater Company in 2002, which has since presented over twenty productions, including eleven world premieres. In addition to producing all of the Lab’s plays, Tom also directed As You Like It by William Shakespeare (with Steve Cook), Songs and Statues, by Peter Nickowitz (world premiere), Our Town by Thornton Wilder, What Shall I Give My Children? by Don K. Williams (world premiere), and others. Tom created MAD (the Harold Clurman Center for New Works in Movement and Dance Theater), a dance theater company that has presented over thirty new works, the majority of which were commissioned world premieres, and which includes Margie Gillis, Bill T. A 2009 Festival event inspired a book that Tom co-edited with Herb Kohl; The Muses Go To School, was published by New Press in 2012. Under Tom’s leadership the Stella Adler Outreach Division, a program designed to educate urban youth, was created. Since 2004, Outreach has provided free theater training to over 2,000 low income New York City public school students. In addition, the Stella Adler Studio of Acting trains over 500 actors per year. As a result of Tom’s vision the Studio has evolved from an acting conservatory to a cultural center with a unique focus in American actor training. Students are encouraged to not only be well versed in theater, art, music and literature, but to also be conscious of and involved in social, humanitarian and political issues. Tom studied acting at the National Shakespeare Conservatory and with his grandmother, Stella Adler. Te Vaka has performed in Hawai‘i and toured the UK, Europe and other parts of the world extensively over the last 13 years, performing in such prestigious venues as London’s Royal Festival Hall and Ronnie Scott’s Nightclub. The group has headlined music festivals throughout Europe and been favorites at WOMAD festivals around the world, including the WOMAD Festival in Seattle, WA. They are in demand for many world events and have represented New Zealand and the South Pacific with performances for the America’s Cup events in Auckland, the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, the Rugby World Cup in Paris, and the Olympic Games in Beijing. Opetaia Foa’i, founder, songwriter, and lead vocalist, has been described as “one of New Zealand’s finest songwriters” and “a true son of the Pacific." His musical background spans both the traditional and the diverse influences of contemporary culture. The log drums (or "Pate" in his native language), are a key part of the sound, capturing the infectious rhythms of a Pacific groove. The renowned band includes some of Australia and New Zealand’s leading talents in music and dance from Samoan, Maori and Pacific Island backgrounds. Opetaia has a very deep and passionate involvement with the Islands of the South Pacific. He writes songs that tell the story of Polynesia, from the original pioneers who traveled across the largest ocean on the planet with a simple vaka (canoe), to the current destruction of many of the smaller Pacific Islands such as Tokelau and Tuvalu due to the effects of global warming. The songs are mostly in the language of Tokelau, an original dialect of old Polynesia, but in the later albums there are also songs in Samoan and Tuvaluan. This serves as a means of keeping the language alive as well as imparting,to the music the rich color and rhythm of the language itself. The listener is offered something new and unique; barriers of age and culture are broken down on a journey through Polynesia that reaches into the heart of us all.
Te Vaka has performed in 35 countries around the world and is just about to release its eighth recording. The first CD, self-titled Te Vaka (May 1997), gained immediate worldwide acclaim for its original style and powerful tribal, roots-y feel, and generated widespread recognition for the group. The second album, Ki Mua (1999), created an even bigger impact, going to No. 1 on world music charts and on mainstream radio in the South Pacific. Nukekehe was released in May 2002, and was described as “phenomenal” and gained the group a nomination in the “Best Roots” category in the New Zealand Music Awards. They began garnering awards with their fourth album, Tutuki, which entered the U.S. Global Rhythm Top 10 chart at No. 3 and the European World Music Charts at No. 4; Te Vaka won a "Tui" (New Zealand Music Award) for “Best Pacific Music Album.” The next album, Olatia (July 2007), also achieved rave reviews both in New Zealand and internationally, entering the European World Music Chart at No. 4 and winning a “Tui” for “Best Pacific Album” in the 2008 Pacific Music Awards. Haoloto, released in 2009, won the Hawaiian Music Award for "Best Polynesian Album" in 2010, and was followed by Havili in 2011. Opetaia is currently at work on two simultaneuous projects: Te Vaka’s newest CD, scheduled for a 2015 release, and composing the soundtrack of a major animated feature that is set in the Pacific — Te Vaka will be featured on the soundtrack. The islands of Tokelau, Tuvalu, and Samoa were major influences on Opetaia's upbringing and his songwriting. He was raised in Samoa until the age of nine when his whole family immigrated to New Zealand. The Tokelauan community there continued to provide musical inspiration; every gathering was an opportunity for people to sing and dance, and this mood is sustained in the evocative spirit of the band. The addition of band members from many Islands in the South Pacific add flavors from all over modern Polynesia to the music and dance of Te Vaka.

BAND MEMBER PROFILES OPETAIA FOA'I, Guitar and Vocals, Founder Songwriter and lead vocalist of the group, Opetaia Foa’i founded Te Vaka in 1995. He plays the acoustic guitar, lead log drum and choreographs the show. The inspiration for his music comes from his multi-cultural upbringing — half-Tokelauan, half-Tuvaluan, born in Samoa and bought up in a Tokelauan community in New Zealand. Opetaia’s musical background spans both the traditional and the diverse influences of contemporary metropolitan culture. He has been described as “one of New Zealand’s finest songwriters” and in 2005, won the Senior Pacific Artist award for his work in recognition of an outstanding contribution to the Pacific Arts of New Zealand. DOUGLAS BERNARD, (AKA Fresh, D. Burn), Vocals and Keyboard Fresh was a band member from 2004–2006, probably best known for the male vocal in Tamahana. A great musician with a good voice and stage presence, he is happy to be returning to the Te Vaka lineup. MATATIA FOA'I, Drumkit, Master Log Drummer Drum kit, log drums, skin drums, percussion. Born in New Zealand, Matatia is quarter-Tokelauan, quarter-Tuvaluan and half-New Zealander. He joined Te Vaka in 2003 and makes his way around log drums, skin drums, percussion and drumkit with skill and ease. He also co-composed one of the percussion tracks on the latest Te Vaka CD. OLIVIA FOA'I, Female Vocals and Lead Female Dancer Olivia is part Tokelauan, Tuvaluan and New Zealander. Born in New Zealand, she has performed with Te Vaka since 2005. As with many members of the group, Olivia is multi-talented and loves to perform, singing and playing keyboards when she is not dancing. MAX STOWERS, Bass Guitar Max is a bit of a legend in the South Pacific, the most in-demand electric bass player in Auckland. As NZ Musician says, “He is our funkiest — with some scary chops, seemingly infinite improv ideas, rock solid time and groove feels to die for...in a nutshell, Max Stowers is a prodigious talent.” With his father, jazz pianist John Stowers, and his mother June, a singer, Max has been working professionally since the age of 15. Max describes his style as 'Polynesian Jazz/Funk.' GERARD TATIRETA (TIOTI), Male Dancer from Kiribati Gerard is a very exciting vibrant cultural dancer who has also studied contemporary dance and recently performed and toured in Birds With Skymirrors by Lemi Ponifasio.

JOE TOOMATA, Lead Guitar and Bass Skin Drum Joe joined Te Vaka as the bass player at the end of 2001 and played Bass until 2006, but his real passion has always been the guitar. He has a great love of his culture and is very excited about returning to the band in 2015. CHRISTIAAN VERBEEK, Log Drums Versatile Pacific Island drummer Christiaan Verbeek is touring with Te Vaka for the first time. Of Maluku Island descent (a Melanesian archipelago within the Indonesia), he is expert in several styles of Pacific drumming. He is also a drum maker, creating both log and skin drums for music traditions of Samoa, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Tokelau, Hawaii, and more. ETUENI (EDWIN) PITA, Lead Dancer Etueni (Edwin) is half-Tokelauan, quarter-Cook Islander and quarter-Tuvaluan, born in New Zealand. He has been dancing since the age of five. Joining Te Vaka in 1997, he made his debut at WOMAD Pacifica. Since being with the band, he has contributed his traditional and contemporary dance skills and also assists with choreography for the stage shows.
Kenny Endo Contemporary Taiko Ensemble 40th Anniversary Tour Thursday, October 22, 2015; 7:30 pm an artist residency at the Lincoln Center Institute in New York, his own “Kenny Endo Day” proclaimed by the Mayor of Honolulu, and certificates of honor from the House and Senate of the State of Hawaii and Honolulu City Council. Endo has recorded five CDs of original taiko compositions, and was a featured artist on the PBS special Spirit of Taiko. He has performed for musicians Michael Jackson and Prince, as well as Princess Diana and Prince Charles. He has opened for The Who, performed a duet with singer Bobby McFerrin, and is featured on the soundtracks for Kayo Hatta’s film Picture Bride, and Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. Endo’s taiko skills have taken him to the Microsoft Global Exchange Conference"in Atlanta, the Smithsonian, National Museum of American History, Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Theatre de Champs-Elysee in Paris, the Kabukiza, and National Theater in Japan, He has performed with the Hong Kong Philharmonic, Honolulu Symphony, and Tokyo Symphony, traveling across Asia, Africa, Europe, Oceania, the former Soviet Union, and the Americas in his effort to share taiko with the world.
KENNY ENDO is one of the leading personas in contemporary percussion and rhythm. He is the vanguard of the taiko genre, continuing to pave new paths in this Japanese style drumming after over forty years as a career taiko player. A performer, composer, and teacher of taiko with numerous awards and accolades, Kenny Endo is a consummate artist, blending Japanese taiko with rhythms influenced from around the world into original melodies and improvisation. Originally trained as a jazz musician in the Asian American cultural renaissance of 1970s California, Endo began his taiko career first with L.A.’s groundbreaking Kinnara Taiko, and then with the renowned San Francisco Taiko Dojo, the first kumi daiko group outside of Japan. In 1980, he embarked on a decade-long odyssey in his ancestral Japan, studying and performing with the masters of ancient classical drumming, traditional Tokyo festival music, and ensemble drumming. Endo has the honor of being the first non-Japanese national to have received a "natori" (stage name and master’s degree) in hogaku hayashi (classical drumming). In the hogaku world, Endo is known as Mochizuki Tajiro. In the greater musical world, “Kenny Endo” has become synonymous with “taiko.” He is arguably one of the most versatile musicians in the genre, crossing easily between the classical Japanese style and his own neo-classical, globallyinspired variety. Among his many distinctions are an M.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawaii at Manoa,
Endo has received commissions to create and tour new work from the American Composers Forum, McKnight Foundation, Continental Harmony, Children’s Theater Company, Rockefeller Foundation (MAPP), Japan Foundation, Freeman Foundation, Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, Japanese American Cultural and Community Center, Stanford Lively Arts, and the Honolulu Mayor’s Office of Culture and the Arts. Kenny Endo Contemporary Taiko Ensemble several albums as a bandleader. Hamada has been playing vibraphones, taiko, and percussion with the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble since the year 2000. His virtuoso technique and joyful, spirited performance enriches Endo’s music, adding a fun dimension to the ensemble. MICHIYO KOGA, Koto Michiyo has been playing koto (the Japanese 13-string zither) since childhood, and first performed in Tokyo at the age of 3. She has received formal instructions in piano since she was 5, as well as voice since the age of 15. She received her Ikuta Koto Teacher’s License in 1970, and graduated from NHK Japanese Ensemble Course in 1977. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Music from Senzoko Gakuen University in Tokyo. One of her career highlights was accompanying Isaac Stern while he was recording in Japan. Since 1987 Koga has been both life and artistic partner to renowned shakuhachi player Masayuki Koga. Michiyo is the principal koto instructor for Japanese Music Institute of America. ABE LAGRIMAS JR., Vibraphone, Drums, Ukulele Abe Lagrimas, Jr. is a versatile, award-winning multiinstrumentalist. Predominantly known as a drummer, he is equally proficient on vibraphone and ukulele. Considered a child prodigy, Abe participated in prestigious music programs as a high school student, including the Drummers Collective in New York, Berklee College of Music Summer Program in Boston, and the Betty Carter's Jazz Residency in Washington D.C., and continued his studies at Berklee College of Music as a North American World Tour Scholarship recipient. Abe is a member of one of South Korea’s top jazz groups, Prelude, which signed with Sony BMG records in 2005; their debut CD Croissant was one of the top ten selling albums in Korea. He has also performed with notable artists such as Eric Marienthal, Lalo Schifrin, Gabe Baltazar, Jake Shimabukuro, James Ingram, Daniel Ho, among others, and began performing with Kenny Endo in 2008. He continues to tour internationally. KAORU WATANABE, Japanese Bamboo Flutes (nohkan, ryuteki, shinobue, fue), Western Flute, Taiko #1 transverse bamboo flutist in the US, Kaoru Watanabe’s music is an ever-shifting blend of Japanese folk and classical traditions with contemporary improvisational and experimental music. Born in St. Louis to symphony musician parents, he graduated from the Manhattan School of Music with a BFA in jazz flute and saxophone performance. He then moved to Japan in 1997 to join the internationally renowned taiko drum ensemble KODO, touring and eventually serving as one of Kodo’s artistic directors. For KODO’s world music festival, he directed shows that combined music, dance, and visual arts and that featured such luminaries as Zakir Hussain, Giovanni Hidalgo, Carlos Nunez, jazz pianist Yōsuke Yamashita, and casts comprised of West African stilt dancers, tap and contemporary dancers, traditional Japanese folk dance, live calligraphy, break dance, capoeira and, of course, taiko. In 2006 Kaoru returned to New York to teach and continue performing fue (Japanese bamboo flute), western flute and taiko in a variety of musical and artistic settings.

Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond featuring the music of Peter and Gordon Wednesday, November 11, 2015; 7:30 pm title track a Grammy winner in 2014, and the stage show based on it, Bright Star, which premiered at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre in the fall of 2014. Peter takes you behind the curtain of the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, where he inducted two old friends, the Rolling Stones' first Manager Andrew Loog Oldham, and the Beatles' Manager Brian Epstein. The PBS special Buddy Holly: Listen to Me -The Ultimate Buddy Party is still being aired regularly, and its sister CD, Listen to Me: Buddy Holly remains a favorite. His work on soundtracks, alongside the legendary Hans Zimmer, is touched on as well-recent releases include The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Man Of Steel, and Rush. In fact, Peter sang and produced the only original song in the Dreamworks motion picture Madagascar 3, which Peter co-wrote with his friend Dave Stewart. Memoir includes a live performance of the song, the love theme, “Love Always Comes As a Surprise.” We first came to know him through the global smash, "World Without Love," as one half of the British Invasion duo, Peter & Gordon. He returns in Peter Asher: A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond, which brings a multimedia experience to the stage, hosted by the two-time Grammy winner for Producer of the Year. Peter Asher moved effortlessly from his role with Peter & Gordon to Music Executive with the Beatles' Apple Records, then famously − (as in cover of Rolling Stone Magazine level famous) − to Producer and Manager, handling the careers of James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt and a host of others. Books abound, documentaries with half-truths (and worse) are all too common, but now, finally, Mr. Asher tells first-hand his tales from the eye of the cultural hurricane in this intimate evening. Memoir includes film footage and photos from Peter's considerable personal archive, brought to life with a storyteller's gift, transporting audiences back to the heart of 60s popular culture. Icons such as Mick Jagger, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Marianne Faithful, Yoko Ono, Carole King, James Taylor, and Linda Ronstadt are among the cast of characters in this narrative − along (of course) with the greatly missed Gordon Waller. The evening is filled with the music of Peter & Gordon, including "I Go to Pieces," "True Love Ways," and "Lady Godiva." The songs given to Peter & Gordon by Paul McCartney are also front and center: "Woman," "I Don't Want to See You Again," "Nobody I Know," and "World Without Love," all of which were US Top 40 hits. Peter, backed by a four piece band, presents these timeless classics along with other old favorites from that golden era. BIOGRAPHY Peter Asher, CBE was born in London June 22, 1944, the son of a doctor and a professional musician. He was educated at Westminster School in London and at Kings College, London University, where he studied philosophy. Peter’s entry into the world of the performing arts was as a child actor. At the age of eight he starred in his first film, The Planter’s Wife, as the son of Claudette Colbert and Jack Hawkins. He went on to act extensively in various film, TV, radio and stage productions. His legendary music career began in 1964 as one-half of the singing duo Peter & Gordon, who amassed nine Top 20 records during their career. Their debut single, “A World Without Love” – a song given to them by Paul McCartney – went to number one in over 30 countries, including the U.S. and U.K. In 1968, Mr. Asher became head of A&R for the Beatles newly formed record company, Apple Records, where he found, signed and produced James Taylor and worked closely with the Beatles on their individual projects. During this period he became a key figure in the “revolution” of the 60s, founding the book shop and art gallery “Indica” (where John and Yoko met and where Allen Ginsberg and William Boroughs visited), and found himself at the centre of an era of profound social and artistic change.

In 1971, Asher moved to the U.S. and founded Peter Asher Management, representing James Taylor and, beginning in 1973, the management and production of Linda Ronstadt as well. Peter Asher Management became one of the most successful Artist Management companies in the US, handling artists such as Joni Mitchell, Randy Newman, and Carole King, as well as the aforementioned Taylor and Ronstadt. As a producer, Mr. Asher has worked with such diverse artists as James Taylor, 10,000 Maniacs, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond, Ringo Starr, Linda Ronstadt, Cher, Morrissey, Robin Williams, Jane Monheit, Kenny Loggins, The Dixie Chicks, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Hans Zimmer and Billy Joel, among many others. He has been awarded 37 RIAA-certified gold albums and 22 platinum albums in the U.S., and many more internationally. Mr. Asher has produced thirteen Grammy Award®-winning recordings, and in 1977 and 1989, was honored individually with the Grammy Award® for “Producer of the Year.” He won a further Grammy in the category of “Comedy Album of the Year” for his production work with Robin Williams.
Current projects include the production of the follow-up album to the highly successful (and Grammy-winning) Love Has Come for You (Steve Martin & Edie Brickell) which has also generated a PBS special and a stage musical, Bright Star, of which Peter is the music supervisor. Bright Star, directed by Walter Bobbie, will be opening on Broadway in the fall of 2015. Peter also directed the highly acclaimed Hans Zimmer live concerts (Hans Zimmer Revealed) which took place in London on October 10th and 11th, 2014, and has produced the songs for the forthcoming Barry Levinson movie, Rock the Kasbah (Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, and Zoey Deschanel). In the New Year’s Honours list for 2015, Peter Asher was awarded a CBE (“Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire”) by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth. The official investiture took place at Buckingham Palace on February the 24th, conducted by Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.
After a 37 year gap, Peter & Gordon reunited in New York for one benefit concert for a friend on August 2, 2005 which was very successful, and they went on to perform together on various special occasions just for the fun of it until Gordon’s untimely death in July of 2009. Since then Peter has continued to be in high demand as a record producer, consultant, lecturer, and as a performer, again in his successful one-man show, A Musical Memoir of the 60s and Beyond. He has also received various international awards, is a member of Mensa and of SAG-AFTRA, a National Trustee of the Recording Academy, and has been a frequent keynote speaker at industry events. Other projects in recent years include Carole King & James Taylor Live at the Troubadour, an album from guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela (Area 52, recorded in Cuba) and the Buddy Holly tribute, Listen to Me (an album and PBS TV Special). With Hans Zimmer, Peter produced music for Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Sherlock Holmes 2, Madagascar 3, Man of Steel and Rush. In fact, Peter sang and produced the only original song in Madagascar 3, the love theme “Love Always Comes as a Surprise,” which Peter co-wrote with his friend Dave Stewart. He also collaborated with Zimmer and Pharrell Williams on the production of all the musical elements of the Academy Awards show 2012 and recently completed a production project with Elton John, with current artists singing the songs from Yellow Brick Road on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of that album. The artists include Ed Sheeran, Miguel, The Band Perry, John Grant, Fall Out Boy, and Hunter Hayes, and the album was released in March 2014.

Compañia Flamenca José Porcel JOSÉ PORCEL Artistic Director, Compania Flamenca José Porcel José Porcel was born in Sevilla, and at the age of thirteen began dancing Andalucian folkloric dances and flamenco in cultural centers in Valencia. He began his dance studies at 16 with the master Martín Vargas. He moved to Madrid and continued his studies with Paco Romero, Isabel Quintero, Cristóbal Reyes, Pedro Azorín, and José Granero. In 1989 he made his professional debut with the Ballet de Valencia, directed by Martín Vargas, and was promoted to soloist in the company the following year. In 1991 Mr. Porcel choreographed his first flamenco work, Te traigo al sur, Miguel, under the direction of the flamencologist Federico Torres, in the Teatro Principal in Alicante. In 1992 he directed and performed in his first flamenco company in the Expo de Sevilla. In 1993 José Porcel took part in a tour of America with Clara Romana’s company, in the work Carmina Burrana. In 1994 he was invited to join the Ballet Nacional de España, where he interpreted works including Medea, Ritmos, Bolero de Ravel, El Sombrero de tres picos, Danza y tronio, Los Tarantos, Fantasia Galaica, Grito, Poeta, and many flamenco ballets. In 1997 he brought his performance entitled "Entrañas flamencas" to the flamenco festival of the Palacio de la Música in Valencia. Within the Ballet Nacional, he worked with masters including José Granero, Victoria Eugenia, Juanjo Linares, Currillo, Manolo Marín, Javier de Latorre, Antonio Canales, and Pedro Azorín. As soloist with the company he danced in Los Tarantos as Picaos, Medea as the man of Medea, and Grito as Soleá (flamenco). As premier dancer in the Ballet Nacional de España he interpreted Farruca (flamenco) and Danza y tronío. In December 1999, Mr. Porcel danced as soloist in the company of Rafael Aguilar, interpreting the Torero in Carmen during a major tour of Germany and Switzerland. In 2000 he danced as soloist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl, under the direction of maestro Héctor Zaraspe. In this same year he was contracted as the first dancer in the Compañía Española de Antonio Márquez, performing on tour around the world and at the Opéra de Paris for over 20 sold-out performances, followed by a critically acclaimed tour of the United States during the 2001-2002 season. The company scored a sensational success with their coast-to-coast tour of North America in the 2008-2009 season, returned to the United States and Canada in the 2011-2012 season with their thrilling new program Gypsy Fire, and is touring North America in the 2015-2016 season with their new program, Flamenco Fire.

This is a folk dance welcoming the audience to Siberia, a rough and beautiful land of vast forests and mighty rivers. The true richness of Siberia lay in its courageous, hard-working people. 2. Siberian Lyric Dance Choreography by Godenko, Music by Alexander Wagner The best love themes can be found in the traditions of Siberian folklore. The smooth movements of the girls, the pride pasture of the men, gorgeous music, and sincere feelings create a cheerful and romantic mood. 3. Choreographic picture “On the Bench” Choreography by Kondakov, Music by Kornev This dance illustrates a playful mood of a few couples flirting with each other on the bench. 4. Girls’ Dance “Outskirts of a Village” Choreography by Izumova, Music by Kiselev This dance originates from an ancient marriage ceremony, elements of which can still be found in many regions of Siberia. 5. You make us think about our young days in our homeland, where we loved − where our ancestral home was. It is a thoughtful and melancholic round dance with candles that became a trademark of the ensemble abroad. 4. “Siberian Fun” Choreography by Godenko, Music by Kornev Russian men dancing with balalaikas and elements of the traditional folklore reflect the Russian spirit and strength. National Dance Company Of Siberia ABOUT THE NATIONAL DANCE COMPANY OF SIBERIA From the foothills of the Sayan Mountains to the icy Kara Sea flows the mighty and majestic Yenisey River. On its banks live the people of Siberia, who have their own culture, literature, and art. This vast and beautiful land has become a source of inspiration for the Krasnoyarsk Dance Company of Siberia, whose choreography reveals the spiritual wealth of the Siberians, glorifying their laborious feats and showing the wonderful nature of the land. The Company was founded in 1960, and has been a success from the very outset with its original manner of performing Siberian dances. Audiences are captivated by the vivid character portrayals, the musical movements, and the colorful patterns of the choreographic design. The dances, following one after another in a kaleidoscope manner, are perceived as a single choreographic symphony, as a continuous stream of folk dance elements, at one moment thoughtfully smooth, to the next, shifting and sparkling. A great love of dancing unites all the performers who are constantly striving towards a higher degree of mastery. M. Godenko created dances in collaboration with the Company's music director, composer Vladimir Kornev, Merited Artist of Russia, whose music is distinctive for its folk character and melodies. His deep knowledge of folk dances and Siberian folklore helped him bring the music into the fabric of the dance in a most original manner. One of the most important elements in scenic dance is the costumes. It helps to bring home to the spectators the idea of the choreographer, making the image of each personage more expressive, contributing to a finer perception of each dance. Since its foundation, the Company has appeared in all parts of the Russian Federation, as well as in more than 60 countries around the world. During the Company's tour of Latin America, the newspapers highly acclaimed its performances. In its review, entitled "The Siberian Ballet Conquers America," a Mexican newspaper wrote: "It is hard

But it must be said that the impression made by the Company can be summed up, without fear or mistake, in a single word - "a fairytale." When the Company toured the USA, the Washington Post wrote in its article that "the folk dances from Russia seemed broader and more effective than the dances of any other country, due to their choreography and cultural traditions." The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia, like all the very best dance companies, has something for everybody. It’s the kind of theater experience that one looks forward to seeing again. VLADIMIR MOISEEV, Artistic Director Born in 1963 in Moscow, Vladimir Moiseev is a member of one of the most distinguished choreographic families in Russia. In 1981, he graduated from the Moscow State Academy of choreography and joined the company of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. In 1991, he was promoted to the leading character solo dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre. From 1988 to 1992, he studied at the Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts, from which he graduated as a producerchoreographer. In 1996, he was awarded the title of the “Honored Artist of Russia.” A few years ago, Vladimir Moiseev became the most recent Artistic Director of the Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia. When interviewed, Vladimir Moiseev has always spoken about the importance of keeping the Company’s old folk dance traditions alive, as well as developing the new dancers and the repertoire. Vladimir Moiseev leads the Company on their first return tour to the United States since 2014, which is taking place in 25 American cities, as well as in Mexico, during the months of October & November, 2015.

TRADITIONS EXPLAINED: An Irish Christmas: Conceived, produced and directed by Margaret O' Carroll, owner of Kerry Irish Productions Inc. Central to her work is the forging of the path between the old and the new; incorporating old Irish traditions reflecting various aspects of Irish life into her stage work, creating an unbreakable bond between the old ways and the new — one emerges from the other! "It is extraordinary how closely connected we are to our past. We are a product of so much that came before us and our traditions are part of that inheritance. There is a value to these traditions. We are craftsmen and craftswomen who carry the stories to the next generation through every-day events such as storytelling, song, music, dance and our daily rituals. Folk theatre is the protector, the interpreter, the narrator the pulse, the heartbeat of these traditions." Margaret O' Carroll The Kerry Dance Troupe: The Kerry Dance Troupe was established by Kerry Irish Productions Inc. with the intention of promoting and celebrating Irish culture and its rich traditions through the medium of dance and introducing these often forgotten Irish traditions to new audiences. These ‘ambassadors’ of Irish dance work with KIPI on various aspects of Irish folk-dance, incorporating old Irish dance styles into modern Irish dance styles, and thus forging the path between the old and the new. Through this process the best of ethnic and modern Ireland is represented, exposing audiences to the beauty, value, passion and uniqueness of our traditional ways that play such an important part in the life of the community. The Dance Master’s Shoes: A pair of dance shoes become the embodiment of not only all that was lost in Ireland's long and troubled history, but everything that was saved everything that is still cherished in the Irish folk traditions. The dance master's shoes, in a sense, symbolize the wealth of Irish culture. These are magical shoes, they have a life of their own and they take us on our journey. Fireworks Dance: The great Irish tradition of the dance-off is expressed in this dance. The male and female dancers display their ‘wares’ and brilliance in the dance and finish with a common step reminding us all that both are equally skilled! Shoemaking: Every village and town in Ireland had a shoemaker (An Gréasaí Bróg). The shoemaker worked from morning ‘til night protecting the feet of all! He lengthened the life of shoes and boots, made new shoes and boots to order and prided himself on his fine workmanship as would any craftsman. Traditionally in Ireland, leather was the principle material used. We honor their rhythmic craft tonight, and in so doing, remind you too that the airy dancer who wears these shoes is indeed a great dancer! Butter making: In times gone by, butter making was a cottage industry in Ireland and an important task for

many farming families. It played an important role in the household economy. During the churning, everybody, young and old who entered the farmhouse, had to take a turn at the churn, which lightened the labor of churning. There were many customs associated with the production of the butter: salt or a drop of holy water was added to ensure that the butter was protected from those that would like to ‘steal the butter’ for their own use, work songs were an essential part of the magic of the ritual performed to ensure the success of the butter making (to get more butter, of course), and dances were danced around the churn in a joyful expression of that success! Of note: Ireland was the leading exporter of butter to the known world in the 18th century. Straw Boys: This ancient tradition of acting out old stories and songs had the men dressing in disguise and using stylized straw hats to hide their faces. They would randomly appear at celebrations to perform their songs and dances and they usually requested and received food, money, or some token of gratitude in return. In former times when house weddings were the norm, it was common for Straw Boys to appear. They were always welcomed and the captain of the Straw Boys might well "kidnap" the bride, demanding a ransom of porter! Bodhrán/Dance: This dance is a two-way display of rhythm. The intense bodhrán rhythms challenge the intricate rhythms of the dancer’s feet. Both bodhrán player and dancer enter a joyful competition where ‘fun’ is central to this friendly but intense competition. Again, in the great Irish tradition, more dancers enter the moment and it now becomes a ‘dance-off’ between male and female! In the final analysis, all are deemed to be equal and a common dance brings peace and equality reigns supreme!

Sean Nós Dance: The term sean nós means "old style." It is impromptu, rhythmic, and low key with arms loose, feet low to the ground, and a focus on percussive beats battered out by the feet. Dancing on the Half Door: The ‘half door’ was an important part of Irish social life. Placed in front of the front door it possessed no latch. It would swing back and forth in free movement! It admitted light and kept animals out. It was a wonderful center of ‘gossip’ and was no doubt, the bearer of many secrets. It became the ‘stage’ when an evening of fun or competition was called in the community. The half door would be removed from its position and dropped to the floor whereupon the dance challenge was delivered! Sometimes the half door was soaped to make the competition more challenging! It is said - ‘a good dancer could dance on a tray, and an excellent dancer could dance on a half-penny.’ The best dancers danced as it were, underneath themselves, trapping each note of music on the floor, and as each dancer attempted to outdo the other with more intricate steps, the fun knew no end. The dancers always gathered at the end of the dance in one friendly step, much to the joy of the observer! Lá an Dreoilín: “The Day of the Wren” celebrates the old custom of ‘The Wrenboys’ − groups of boys, girls and adults who, on the feast of St. Stephen (26th December), went about from house to house dressed in various disguises, playing music and performing dances. They carried with them a wren tied to a holly bush. The hunt for the wren sparked much fun and excitement leading up to “The Day of the Wren” when the celebrations began before dawn and continued until late into the night. All houses in the district were visited and all welcomed the Wrenboys, who would dance, sing, and make merry in exchange for a “penny to bury the wren.” The North Kerry Blackbird: The wren begins this dance and is joined by the Kerry Dance Troupe. 'The Blackbird' is the oldest known solo set dance. The dance steps you will see in the 'Blackbird' dance are the original Jerry Molineaux steps. From North Kerry, he was a well-known dance master in the sean nós tradition. These steps were gathered from Fr. Pat Ahern, founder of The Irish National Folk Theatre, who learned the steps directly from Jerry Molineaux. These steps are close to one hundred years old! Bodhrán: The bodhrán takes its name from the Irish word bodhar which means deafening. It is a frame drum which stretches back to the 14th century. The bodhran was used as a work implement for many years and it was used particularly in the mumming traditions of Kerry and Cork, to chase out the wren on the 26th of December (Lá an Dreoilín). The bodhrán has changed in the last century from a primitive frame drum played with the hand, to a very complicated tonal and rhythmic percussive instrument. It was first popularized by the group Ceoltóirí Chualann, under the leadership of Seán Ó Riada.
Uilleann Pipes: The uilleann pipes are a cousin of the more common Scottish great highland bagpipes. They took on their current form during the second half of the 18th century and sparked a golden age of pipe making and playing which lasted in Ireland until the Great Famine. After nearly being completely forgotten, the uilleann pipes are now enjoying a revival which has been sparked by the great efforts of hundreds of folk musicians since the early 1960s. Uilleann pipes differ from most other forms of bagpipes in that they have a range of two fully chromatic octaves, are able to achieve both staccato and legato phrasing, as well as providing chordal and rhythmic accompaniment to itself via the regulators. ARTIST BIOS KORAL AAKRE (Female Vocalist) Koral, from Coos Bay, located on the beautiful southern Oregon coast, comes from a family of singers and began voice lessons with her father at the age of seven. She studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston and received her degree in vocal performance from Southern Oregon University where she studied Opera. She has performed with the Rogue Opera and the Southern Oregon Reparatory Singers. She was a dancer and singer at Oregon’s own Little Opry on the Bay. Prior to moving to Los Angeles, Koral was a legislative assistant for Senator Arnie Roblan in Salem, Oregon. She is the great great-granddaughter of Bridgette Conlan, who emigrated from Ireland as a mail order bride. Koral’s grandmother would burst with pride to hear her sing here today! This is Koral’s third season with An Irish Christmas. SHEELAGH CULLEN (Narrator/ Storyteller). Sheelagh came to Los Angeles from Hong Kong where she ran a theater company for 10 years and was involved as either actor or director in each of its 40 productions. Previously she had worked in both England and her native Ireland in theater and TV. In Los Angeles she has worked with Stages Theater, Shakespeare Festival/LA, Theatricum Botanicum, Working Stage Theater, LA Theatre Works, and the Odyssey Theater where she recently appeared in Theater in the Dark. Sheelagh loves to get back to her Irish roots both in ‘The Heart of an Irishwoman,’ and performing as narrator and storyteller in a series of Irish Concerts with Kerry Irish Productions. She has just completed a new spoken arts recording: The Magic of Christmas (Poems and Readings for the Holiday Season), which is on sale in the foyer.

EMILY DICKERSON (Kerry Dance Troupe). Emily Dickerson, from Covina, California, found her passion for Irish dancing at a very young age. She started Irish dancing when she was 11 at the Painter-Larson Academy of Irish Dance. Her love for Irish dance and culture has never since faltered. Emily became an Open Champion dancer in less than two years and has competed at the regional, national, and world levels. Emily is thrilled to be dancing in An Irish Christmas 2015! SCOTT DOHERTY (Principal Dancer). Scott Doherty is the 2009 men's world champion of Irish dance. Scott made his professional debut in 2005 with the North American tour of Riverdance. Since then he has toured the world with both Riverdance and Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance. Scott was invited to perform the lead role in Gaelforce Dance for their 2012/2013 tours of Europe and Asia. Since 2007 Scott has been performing in the Irish dance shows at Busch Gardens, serving as Celtic Fyre's dance captain and principal dancer since 2012. Scott has also been a guest performer with many acclaimed Irish acts, including the Irish Tenors, Cherish the Ladies, Michael Londra, and Andy Cooney. Recently, Scott co-created, choreographed, and starred in the production, Rockin' Road to Dublin. This is Scott's second season with An Irish Christmas. FÉLIM EGAN (Button Accordion). Félim was born in 1972 in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and raised in Cloghan, Co. Offaly (west Offaly). His father has a passion for music and encouraged him to play. He began lessons at the age of four with his father and then with a local Offaly fiddler, Dan Cleary. He comes from a family of five children, all well-accomplished musicians. He has many musical influences, which include Matt Molley, Tommy Peoples, Charlie Lennon, and Frankie Gavin, to mention a few. In 1993 he moved to Portland, OR, where he played his first gigs with Robert Soper and Aidan Brennan, and was a regular at Mikey Beglan's East Avenue Tavern session. He started composing tunes in the early 1990's. Félim is a regular fixture in Irish traditional music in Portland. KIMBERLY GERARD (Dance Captain, Kerry Dance Troupe). Kimberly has been involved in Irish dancing for twelve years. She competed for The Sean Gavin Academy as well as Aniar Academy of Irish Dance in Orange County. She advanced quickly especially in 'soft shoe,' which is her favorite form of Irish dance, and competed in local, regional, and national competitions.

Kimberly joined the Kerry Dance Troupe as a professional dancer in 2011 and after a year, she became the troupe's Dance Captain, a position she has held for the past four years. She is very excited to continue as dance captain for An Irish Christmas 2015. CHLOE GRAY (Kerry Dance Troupe). At the age of six Chloe began studying various forms of dance technique such as Irish, Ballet, Modern, and African dance. She received her BFA in Dance and Choreography from the University of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she expanded her knowledge of the body with studies in Alexander Technique. In 2013, she moved to Los Angeles to continue her pursuit of dance and began Irish dancing again with Power Academy. Chloe is excited to be a part of the Kerry Dance Troupe. PRESTON HOWARD (Uilleann Pipes/ Flutes). Preston grew up in Northern California where he first heard Irish traditional music in the form of a Finbar Furey recording belonging to his father. This recording sparked Preston's deep interest in the uilleann pipes. After several years playing whistle, flute and Scottish bagpipes as a child, Preston began learning the uilleann pipes at age 17 with the help of many kind traveling pipers. as well as the Pub Scouts, the local Irish music collective in Chico, CA. Preston now resides in Portland, Oregon where he frequently plays at regional ceilis, Sean-nós, Northwest workshops and events, local sessions, and performances. Preston joined the Kerry Irish Productions Orchestra in 2011 and is delighted to return for An Irish Christmas Tour 2015. BELLA ISSAKOVA (Musicians Coordinator, Fiddle). Bella began playing the violin at the age of 5 at the National Music School of Sofia, Bulgaria. Growing up in the rich Bulgarian musical culture, Ms. Issakova had the privilege of working and touring throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the US with various orchestras and chamber orchestras. After permanently relocating to Southern California in 1993, Ms. Issakova developed a well-established career in both performance and teaching. In 2000 she discovered and fell in love with Irish Traditional music. She became a Kerry Irish Productions artist in 2005 and has toured with the group since. She currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia where in addition to teaching and performing, she has become a member of the critically-acclaimed Irish Traditional group, The Red Wellies.

ZAC LÉGER (Guitar, Bouzouki, Flute, Bodhrán). Zac has been playing music professionally for over 15 years. His work can be heard on over two dozen albums, and he has played, recorded and performed with The Border Collies, John Doyle, Mike Dugger, Liz Carroll, John Whelan, Oisre (of which he was a founding member), Jamie Laval, Qristina & Quinn Bachand, Colleen Raney, and guitarist Al Petteway, to name a few. He was a member of the critically acclaimed Eileen Ivers and Immigrant Soul as well as the Irish-based show Celtic Crossroads, and he has served as musical director for Ireland: the Show. He has toured throughout the U.S, Canada, and Ireland, and currently resides in Los Angeles where he teaches music and performs with the trad/jazz fusion band The Brilliant Gypsies. Zac makes a welcome return to An Irish Christmas 2015. EMILY MACCONNELL (Kerry Dance Troupe). Emily MacConnell hails from Lancaster, California. She has danced for 18 years and has placed as high as 8th in the world, 3rd at the All-Scotland championships, 3rd in the nation, and 1st in her own (Western US) and Southern England regions, (having competed there when she studied abroad in London, England) under the direction of the Butler-Fearon O’Conner School of Irish Dance. In 2014, she toured nationally with An Irish Christmas and in 2015, toured with Rockin’ Road to Dublin, followed by a residency with Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens. Having graduated in 2014, Emily holds a theatre degree from the University of Southern California. She cannot wait to tour with An Irish Christmas 2015 and is thankful and happy to be a part of it. “To dance is to be out of yourself. Larger, more beautiful, more powerful! This is power, it is glory on earth and it is yours for the taking.” - Agnes de Mille. JACKIE MORAN (Drums, Percussion, Banjo and Vocals). Jackie Moran has been playing music professionally his entire life. He was a founding member of many notable performance groups including The Drovers, Comas, and The Trinity Irish Dance Company. Best known for the Bodhrán, he has been featured playing Irish music in four Hollywood movies: Backdraft, Blink, Traveller, and Road to Perdition. His driving beat and unique percussive style can also be heard on many of the top Irish music recordings. Jackie has collaborated with musicians all around the world, and is always looking for new and challenging musical projects.
KEARA OSBORNE (Kerry Dance Troupe). Keara has been an Irish dancer for 25 years. She has competed numerous times at the local, regional, and national levels. Now retired from competitive dance, she enjoys performing regularly with world touring bands such as The Young Dubliners and The Fenians. In 2012, she was delighted to be a part of the Irish dance ensemble in Battle of the Dance in Anaheim, California. Keara has made several television appearances as an Irish dancer, including the Disney XD show Crash and Bernstein in 2013 and the DJ Tommy Trash Lord of the Trance music video in 2014. In May, 2013 Keara completed her Masters of Social Work at the University of Southern California. Kerry Irish Productions is thrilled to welcome Keara as a returning member of The Kerry Dance Troupe. JASON PURCELL (Kerry Dance Troupe). Jason began Irish dancing at the age of eleven. Shortly after taking his first class, he watched the worldrenowned production, Riverdance, with Colin Dunne and Jean Butler, and it became his dream to perform Irish dance on the "big stage." He started competing later that year, and after three more years, entered the Open Championship level as well as competing regionally, nationally, and at the CLRG world championships. Eight years after being immersed in the world of Irish dance, he placed 5th at the North American Championships, 10th at the World Championships, and won the Southern Regional Oireachtas title twice. He has also performed in the show, Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens and is thrilled to join An Irish Christmas for his second tour with the production. Jason loves being part of a cohesive group of dancers, and putting on an amazing show that inspires! He plans to become TCRG certified one day so that he can teach prospective champions and help them reach their goals, as his teachers have. BRITTANY RAMSEY (Kerry Dance Troupe). From Manhattan Beach, CA, Brittany Ramsey has been dancing and competing in one form or another since she was 2 years old. Her specialties have included dance styles as diverse as jazz, ballet, tap and hula. When she was 7 she was captivated by Riverdance, and soon Irish dance became her main focus and passion. She began training with the Kelly School of Irish Dance in Los Angeles and was soon competing at Feisianna all across the US. Brittany soon began winning awards and medals in numerous regional and national Irish dance competitions, dancing for the Kelly, Claddagh, and McCartan schools. She has appeared as a guest artist with Grammy-award winning Irish superstars The Chieftains, Celtic Rain and the legendary Trinity Irish Dance Company, and she has been a featured

performer in the LA-based show Battle of the Dance, and the national touring company of An Irish Christmas. A dynamic and elegant performer, Brittany uses her knowledge of multiple dance forms to craft a unique style all her own, defined by powerful technical abilities, deep respect ,and understanding of her craft. CONNOR T. REIDER (Kerry Dance Troupe). For 14 years Connor danced under the direction of the late Ann Richens and John Timm, competing at local, regional, national and world levels. In his final year of competition, he placed in the top 5 in Mid-America, top 10 in North America, and top 20 in the World Championships. Connor attended University of Notre Dame where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Pre-Professional Studies. While at Notre Dame he was the coach of the 2012 and 2013 AllIreland Club Ceili Champions, as well as a choreographer and performer for the Notre Dame & Saint Mary’s Irish dance team. Connor has performed with the Chieftains and earlier this year with Celtic Fyre at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. “Performing brings me such joy because I get to share my passion with others both on stage and with those in the audience. I am very honored and excited for this opportunity to be a part of An Irish Christmas 2015.” TYLER SCHWARTZ (Kerry Dance Troupe). Tyler began competitive Irish step dancing in Chicago, when he was 8 years old. Since then, he has gone on to win many illustrious titles, including the Midwest regional championship, the AllIreland Championship, All-Scotland Championship, North American Championship, and Great-Britain Championship! A World Champion, he capped off his competitive career winning the Senior Men's World Championship in 2013. Tyler has also performed all over the world, most notably in Japan, Spain, and mainland Europe. He has been principal lead dancer for the Magic of the Dance, Trinity Irish Dance Company, and most recently for Busch Gardens Celtic Fyre. IZZY TAULLI (Kerry Dance Troupe). Izzy is thirteen years old and has been dancing competitively for eight years at the Kelly School of Traditional Irish Dance. She placed in the top ten at Regionals for six years in a row, and competed at the World Championships in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Outside of dance, Izzy enjoys school and eating food. She is very excited to perform in her fifth year with Kerry Irish Productions.

KATHERINE TRIMBLE (Female Vocalist). Katherine is a 27 year old mezzo soprano from Burbank, CA. She recently completed her Masters Degree in Vocal Performance at San Jose State and is a student of acclaimed mezzo soprano Layna Chianakas. She has recently played Ormindo in the SJSU production of L'Ormindo by Francesco Cavalli and Public Opinion in their spring production of Orpheus in the Underworld by Offenbach. She also won first place in the San Jose Women's Club (2014) and San Jose Study Club music competitions (2015). Alto vocalist for The New Choir and recent member of The Mistletoe Singers, Katherine is excited to return to An Irish Christmas after two years off to pursue her degree. LUCY ANN WILLS (Kerry Dance Troupe). Lucy Ann Wills has been dancing since the tender age of four with the O'Faolain Academy of Irish Dance in St. Louis, MO. After five years of instruction, she has risen through the highest levels of competition, and is one of the youngest Open Champions in Mid-America, as well as one of the highest-ranking dancers in North America in her age group. Lucy Ann has performed throughout the United States, Canada, and Ireland and will be in Scotland in 2016. At the age of ten, Lucy Ann has already competed in the World Championships of Irish Dance, ranking in the top percentage of dancers. Sinatra Centennial Celebration With The Nelson Riddle Orchestra Directed by Christopher Riddle, Featuring Vocals by Bryan Anthony

THE ORCHESTRA The Nelson Riddle Orchestra is generally considered the "World's Most Recorded Orchestra" having recorded with Frank Sinatra, Nat "King" Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Peggy Lee, Judy Garland, Dean Martin, Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt and many others. The Orchestra is currently directed by Nelson's son Christopher, and will be joined by vocalist Bryan Anthony for a Centennial Celebration of the musical collaboration between Sinatra and Riddle. The Nelson Riddle Orchestra continues to perform to packed houses across the United States and Europe. The Orchestra continues the musical legacy by performing all of the great Riddle musical arrangements in a style true to the original recordings. Nelson Riddle is generally credited for reviving Sinatra's career in the 1950s with the recording of "I’ve Got the World on a String" on Capitol Records. Notable future recordings with Sinatra would include the albums Songs for Young Lovers, In the Wee Small Hours, A Swingin’ Affair, and Nice n’ Easy, to name but a few. Sinatra himself recalled those years in the liner notes of his Duets album saying, "In the 1950's, Nelson Riddle and I wanted to record groups of songs that set a mood. We recorded wonderful, soulful, tender albums; as well as hot swinging ones." The Nelson Riddle Orchestra celebrates The Great American Songbook with the songs of Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Hoagy Carmichael, Sammy Cahn and other great composers of the 20th Century. Sinatra and the Nelson Riddle Orchestra made songs into worldwide classics like: "I’ve Got The World On A String," "All The Way," "Chicago," "The Way You Look Tonight," "I’ve Got You Under My Skin," "Summer Wind," "Night and Day," "My Kind of Town" (Chicago Is) and many more!
CHRISTOPHER RIDDLE Christopher Riddle is the third of Nelson Riddle’s six children and the only one to become a professional musician, thus providing the third generation of the Riddle musical dynasty. Christopher’s grandfather, Nelson, Sr., was an accomplished trombonist and ragtime pianist. Christopher began his performing career at the tender age of six in a recording studio as a member of a junior vocal group that would go on to back such immortals as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Peggy Lee and Dean Martin, to name a few. At the age of nine, he formed The Riddle Combo, providing musical entertainment for private parties in Malibu, California and its environs. After a year of study at the University of Southern California’s School of Music, he transferred to Trinity College at the Royal Academy in London and earned his BA in performing arts (with honors). During these years he continued to provide musical entertainment with his small jazz ensembles, brass quintets and chorales throughout England and many European cities. Upon completion of his studies, Christopher decided to pursue a career within the big band orchestras. He served his apprenticeship primarily as a trombonist within his father’s orchestra, but also gained invaluable experience with the orchestras of Buddy Rich, Henry Mancini, and Don Costa. Christopher backed many of the greatest singers of the 20th century: Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., and Linda Ronstadt. Sinatra Centennial Celebration recording studios and leader of his own orchestra. With the decline of his father’s health, Christopher became involved in all aspects of The Nelson Riddle Orchestra. His father died on October 6, 1985. Now in his early sixties, this indefatigable performer still finds time to compose, occasionally arrange, and ardently advocate for the preservation and promotion of high quality popular music for all audiences worldwide. BRYAN ANTHONY From the first time we hear them, there are certain singers whom we feel that we know. As the intimacy of their delivery and subtle shading of their interpretation draws us in, a whole personality seems to take shape in our imagination. Bryan Anthony is that magnetic kind of singer. In the present day, as a performer just into his thirties, these qualities are truly remarkable. The Houston-based artist has sung and studied professionally since his teens. He has performed the world over from the Acropolis in Greece to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Bryan’s earliest musical influences came from listening to Broadway recordings and records of Frank Sinatra. He began singing in church choirs at age five. Following graduation, Bryan entered the Manhattan School of Music in NYC, where he majored in classical voice and studied under the chairman of the voice department, Maitland Peters. During his freshman year, Bryan performed several times on New York’s restaurant row. It was at Don’t Tell Mamma’s cabaret and Danny’s Skylight Room where Bryan thrilled audiences with his own style and interpretations of the great American standards. In the summer of 1997, after completing his sophomore year at M.S.M., Bryan accepted an offer from the Glenn Miller Orchestra to begin touring with them. He took a year off from school and began a very big growth process. The tour took him all over the U.S., Canada, the Bahamas, the Hawaiian Islands, and a month in Japan. After a year and a half on the road, Bryan returned to M.S.M. to finish his degree. Back at school he went on to participate in opera productions, including a production and recording of Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti. During the summers of his remaining two years as an undergraduate, Bryan returned to touring with the Glenn Miller Orchestra. It was the time he spent on the road with the band that really set him on his future path.

His first solo album project, Look At Me Now, was released in April 2002 to much acclaim, on Nujazzcity records (www. Nujazzcity.com). Mantis Evar, A&R man for Blue Note Records in New York, worked closely with Bryan to produce this album. In July, 2011 Bryan released A Night Like This on Mercator Media, which consists of original tunes and re-imagined standards. The album also won a Top 10 spot in the annual jazz critics poll awards in the category of vocal jazz. In April 2002, that Bryan began his run in the off-Broadway production of Our Sinatra. This production concentrated on the musical legacy of the late Frank Sinatra. Our Sinatra ran for an unprecedented two and a half years. This is practically unheard of for an off-Broadway show. Bryan toured the East Coast with the show for a short while after its New York closing. In addition to his own quartet, Bryan still performs regularly with many of the great big bands. In the past few years, he has had several engagements with The Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Nelson Riddle Orchestra, the new Gene Krupa Orchestra, and the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra.

To limit disturbance to artists and fellow audience members, late arrivals may be asked to wait until a suitable break in the performance, or intermission, to be seated. Doctors expecting calls during performances should leave their names and seat locations with the House Manager. Photography and Recording The photographing and sound or video recording of any performance, without the explicit permission of management, is prohibited. Offenders may be ejected and liable for damages. Ticket Office Open Monday-Saturday, noon to 6 pm and two hours before show times. If not, set up one at www.harriscenter. net and receive e-news about events, added performances, and special offers. Parking Ample event parking is located adjacent to the Harris Center. Parking permits are required for events taking place anytime Monday through Thursday, and on Fridays before 5pm. A parking permit is issued automatically with your ticket order for events during those times. Please place your permit in a visible location on your dashboard when you arrive at the events. Permits are not required Friday after 5 pm or on Saturday or Sunday. Permits are not provided for free events. House Notes Emergency exits are indicated by green exit signs located above each exit. For your safety, please check for the location of the exit nearest to your seat. As a courtesy to artists and other patrons, please turn off or silence cellular phones, pagers, or wristwatch alarms before start of the event, and refrain from texting during the performance. Three sets of restrooms are located on the Stage Two end of the lobby, one upstairs and two downstairs. Snacks and beverages are available before performances and at intermission at the Wells Fargo CafĂŠ located near the electronic donor wall, and at satellite service stations in the lobby. Food and beverages are not allowed in the theaters (bottled water is okay).

Use of a ticket at the Harris Center constitutes acknowledgement of willingness to appear in photographs, video, and film taken in public areas of the facility and releases the Center, its Partners, and all others from liability resulting from use of such images. Lost and Found Items Lost items will be held in the Coat Check room in the lobby until the end of the performance. Thereafter, please call (916) 6086888. Unclaimed items will be turned into FLC Campus Police Department after thirty days. Accessibility and Listening Devices The Center is accessible to patrons with disabilities. Wheelchair seating is available in all venues. Portable wireless listening devices are available with a small, refundable deposit or a driver’s license. Please inform the Ticket Office of any special needs when ordering tickets. Children All patrons are required to have a ticket, including youngsters sitting on laps. Parents are expected to take into account the subject and nature of performances when selecting shows for their children, and to make sure etiquette is part of the theatre going experience.
