Ha l leluj a h! We made it to June, and w ith a big sigh of relief, we welcome summertime’s long lazy days. Lazy for the lucky few, I suppose! Nonetheless, we seem to catch our breath and delight in outdoor cooking, farmers’ markets, baseball games, water play and oh so much more. But soon after we’ve stowed away those end-of-the-year, slightly mangled class projects, the panic sets in. What are the kids going to do this summer?

I recall vividly my childhood summer days when vacation meant three months of departing the homestead in the morning, on bike, to meet up with the neighborhood crew with exploring and inventing games to span the eight-hour day in mind before pedaling back to where we came from, exhausted and sun burned. The next day would pick up where we left off, of course. In many writings, the solstice is described as a time to be happy. “It is a time to remove unwanted things from your life…a time to dance and sing and spread joy, and be filled with love.” Sounds good to me! I can’t think of a better introduction than this for our annual guide to “99+ Fun Things to Do This Summer”-a local itinerary, if you will, including a little bit of everything, from concert series and festivals to camps and things for the kids to special events all about food.

You’ll want to keep this issue handy!

Until next month and in celebration of the summer solstice, follow tradition and stand still for a moment to savor the joy sunshine brings…and a few of those aforementioned activities alongside Pops. Happy Father’s Day to all the men who matter most, including my own.

Q&A Q: What advice would you give to your younger self?

A: You are fine. Every decade is better than the last. Worrying doesn’t really help anything.

Q: Are you high or low maintenance?

A: Low maintenance—just look at my hair.

Q: Biggest life inspirations?

A: My kids. They are completely different, and between the two of them, they teach me to pursue excellence, enjoy the moment, give in to caring too much, and always look on the bright side.

hile in college, Kate Wells never imagined she would one day become a gifted teacher. She got her bachelor’s degree in anthropology, and went on to years of odd jobs, including six as a river guide. It wasn’t until she and her husband moved to Placerville that she finally decided it was time for a change.

“I realized that in all these odd jobs I had, there was always a teaching component,” she says.

Wells now teaches English, martial arts and student council at Charter University Prep (CUPrep) in El Dorado.

She was also recently granted the Teacher Hero Award by the California Arts Council for her role in integrating Poetry Out Loud (poetryoutloud.org)—which gets kids reciting poetry as a way to deepen their appreciation of the arts while gaining self6 styleedc.com - June 2016

confidence and public speaking skills—into CUPrep’s curriculum. “[Poetry Out Loud] speaks to people who haven’t found their voice yet,” Wells explains, adding that she’s seen firsthand how poetry can transform students’ lives for the better.

In her spare time, she plays violin with the American River College Orchestra and volunteers at the El Dorado County Animal Shelter—sometimes with the help of her two teenage daughters. When asked about her multitude of interests, she confesses to being a somewhat restless spirit, but recognizes that teaching has allowed her to finally find her niche. “It never gets old,” she enthuses. “I can always change my lesson plans, and the students change too. Every year, it feels like a new job.

Timmy’s Brown Bag

iscovering a new lunch spot is always the highlight of my week— especially when it’s Timmy’s Brown Bag, a takeaway joint on Main Street serving up one-of-a-kind, homemade, comfortfusion sandwiches with sides to match.

Opening this past January, Chef Timothy Swischuk uses his architectural background and serious foodie skills to construct unique flavor combinations on a daily-rotating menu. On a recent Saturday, I followed my nose into the colorful café. Tempted by nearly a dozen drool-worthy offerings, I settled on the Japanese Curry Sloppy Joe. Piled inside a perfectly firm-but-fluffy brioche bun, sat creamy, curry-spiced ground beef that had been peppered with pops of edamame and meaty cauliflower florets. The next bite uncovered sweet and tangy pickled ginger slaw, a crunch of spicy Indian snacks, and curry mayo. I closed my eyes to savor all the flavors; I’d never tasted such a tantalizing combination before! To round out my splendidly sloppy sammie, I ordered a side of Truffle Tater Tots—the earthy truffle oil so heady it scented the surrounding air blissfully, and the tots crispy, hot, golden perfection. What check-ups/maintenance work do you suggest prior to embarking on a road trip?

A:

When planning a road trip, it’s recommended to get your vehicle inspected, to avoid any unexpected stops for repair. It’s also best to perform any regular, scheduled maintenance prior to your vacation, where a professional repair facility should bring up any items for concern. Tires, brakes, lights, battery and the cooling system, as well as all of the fluids, should all be inspected.

Lastly, make sure that the timing belt has been replaced (if equipped) at the recommended mileage/age. Regular maintenance and inspections will allow you many miles of happy motoring!

on’t miss the 17th annual Summer Spectacular: A Golden Adventure on June 25 at Cameron Park Lake. Gates open at 2 p.m. and a free shuttle is available from various parking lots (Light of the Hills Church, Marshall Medical Center, Cameron Park Community Center and Pleasant Grove Middle School). The daylong event features a kids’ carnival, gold panning and a gold nugget hunt, swimming at the lagoon, refreshments, food and craft vendors, exhibitors, music by the Random Strangers and Gotcha Covered, and a fireworks show.

Advance wristbands are available at Bel Gotcha Covered Air in Cameron Park, Cameron Park/Shingle Springs Chamber of Commerce, and the Cameron Park Community Services District office.

Little ones (ages 6-12) won’t want to miss the weeklong Junior Explorers summer camp programs. Each week has a different theme with special activities, including time at Cameron Park Lake and gymnastics, plus field trips to places like BounceU, the Sacramento History Museum, Xtreme Craze Laser Tag and more.

Sports camps include UK Soccer Camp the week of July 11-15 and Sterling “Smooth” Forbes Basketball Camp from June 20-24.

Science camps include Spy Academy, Crazy Chemworks and Radical Robots. A Theater Art Camp and various fine art and horse camps are also available. Additional youth programs include ballet, gymnastics, sewing, hula, taekwondo, gardening and cooking.

Tennis lessons for all ages are held at the Cameron Park Lake courts, or try golf classes for youth and adults at Bass Lake Golf Course.

Adults, join in the fun with a basketball league or softball league.

Tai chi, Zumba, Jazzercise, water aerobics, hula, ballroom dance, classical guitar, various art classes and wellness programs are also available.

Mature adults are invited to the 50+ Room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for activities like Rummikub (June 7), bingo (June 14), Mexican train (June 16) and a Game Day (June 28). This month’s Speaker Series on June 15 features Juliet from the El Dorado Nursery discussing water-wise gardening at 10 a.m.

Water aerobics classes are available most weekday mornings and evenings. Learn the basic responsibilities of a lifeguard, as well as communication and decision making skills, in the Guard Start: Jr. Lifeguard program.

The El Dorado Winery Association welcomes Twenty-first Amendment supporters to The Blind Barrel, an inaugural event that will travel to a different winery each year. The repeal of Prohibition took place in December of 1933—making it absolutely legal for wine lovers to come down to Boeger Winery on June 25 from 6-10 p.m. But times won’t have changed all that much—a 1930s-era costume contest will have everyone in period garb. “We have 1800s-era buildings up until 1930s-era buildings, and lots of vintage cars from that era are still here on the property,” says Lexi Boeger, vice president of the El Dorado County Wine Association. A ’20s- and

’30s-era swing band will provide danceable, lively music while string lights will illuminate the winery grounds. Wine tasting is included in the ticket price, and a variety of food truck vendors will be on site as well. Proceeds from the “brown bag bottle grab,” meaning a blind purchase from one of 17 participating wineries, benefit M.O.R.E. “We want to be known as an exciting, up-and-coming sort of renegade region,” says Boeger. “We have award-winning wines, fine wines and a huge diversity of wines. linda soos Letting Her Light Shine

L

inda Soos became enticed with glass art while in her twenties, finding the colors and light shining through captivating. After taking a class, she was certain glass was the medium for her, and began furthering her skills independently. “I was a young mom, enjoying life and raising my children, and they loved watching me,” says Soos. “I gave them scraps of glass to experiment with and they [would create] their own little pieces of art.” Later in life, having grown weary of grinding and soldering glass, the artist began experimenting with a glasson-glass method, making windows using custom frames her husband would make for her. Currently, Soos’ glorious glass mosaic windows are on display at the Gold Country Artists’ Gallery.

HLB: Being self-taught, what techniques do you incorporate to stay focused?

LS: My techniques were developed as time went on, with practice and being fearless to both try and fail and try and succeed. My failures are hanging around my deck, and my successes are either sold, with family, or on display in the gallery. I have a couple of rules for myself: Never stop progressing, don’t be afraid to fail and try again, and only work when you’re inspired and rested. Art is supposed to be fun, not stressful. I want my customers and the people who visit the gallery to enjoy what I do.

do with them. I don’t ever use patterns—my work develops from my imagination and things I see in nature. I like to use tiny pieces of glass; some of them can be challenging, because of the bumps and unevenness, but the results are beautiful and interesting. I use deeper tones to create shadowing and depth. Once my vision is evident, I start to cut and break the glass and glue the pieces to one sheet of clear, double-thick glass, building my design. Once the piece is all cut and glued, it sits for a couple of weeks so it cures, then I grout. After it’s dry, I head to Pop Art for a beautiful custom frame job.

HLB: Describe your process of glasson-glass?

LS: I choose a color or two of glass that’s inspiring to me, then think about what I can

LS: I get most of my inspiration from nature.

I love to create glass flowers, trees, birds and bees. I live in the Sierras so inspiration is all around me; butterflies are one of my favorites.

Lake Tahoe has given me lots of inspiration, too. I find that anytime I’m there, I have ideas for my artwork.

HLB: What advice do you have for balancing family life with art?

LS: My family has always been supportive of my art, and they’ve given me lots of inspiration from the beginning. I’m no expert, but I can say that family comes first, and the art will follow when the time is right. My daughter, Branda Corey, is a flamework glass artist at Gold Country Artists’ Gallery; my mom was a painter; and my grandmother was a musician and very artistic—so you can see it runs in the family!

s temperatures reach triple digits, humans aren’t the only ones looking for ways to escape the heat. Just like us, pets can experience heat exhaustion and even get sunburned— “especially on their ears and noses,” explains Dr. Barbara Laderman Jones, DVM, director of veterinary services at Placer SPCA. “Dogs and cats with light-colored fur (white) are more susceptible to skin cancer.” Specific breeds are also at higher risk in the hottest months. “Older, obese or short-nosed dogs—pugs, bulldogs, Boston terriers, pekingese, boxers, shih tzus and French bulldogs—are less tolerant of heat; [along with] older dogs, puppies and dogs with health issues...of course, you should keep a close eye on your dog in the heat, no matter what her breed, age or state of health is,” Dr. Laderman Jones says, by following the five tips below.

“Take them to your vet for heartworm testing annually, and keep them on heartworm preventive care year-round. Fleas and ticks are also common this time of year, so using quality flea and tick prevention is very important. Make sure if you take your pet on hikes or around water that you’re keeping them safe from the elements and wildlife. Being careful in the heat means a summer of fun for you and your pet!”

A

nyone with most types of health insurance can expect outstanding illness treatment, preventative care and behavioral services at El Dorado Community Health Centers (EDCHC). The difference? Patients without health insurance can expect the same thing. “Our mission is to serve the community, especially those who are underserved and don’t have options to get health care,” says Terri Stratton, MPH, executive director for the network of primary care offices in Placerville, Diamond Springs and Cameron Park. “We serve everyone regardless of their ability to pay.” In 2006, EDCHC went through the process of becoming a federally qualified health center to help 22 styleedc.com - June 2016

cover the costs. As a 501c3 designated nonprofit, EDCHC sources funds from a variety of grants and foundations.

“I was premed in college and saw that I could have a greater effect on communities as a whole by going into public health,” says Stratton, who is extremely passionate about running the center—not only as a health care facility and a nonprofit organization—but also as a place where people learn to lead healthier lives. “It’s a gift to be able to live in a community that I love and to serve everyone. That I find very rewarding.” The centers offer regular classes on diabetes, self-care and prevention, with hopes to expand on classes that focus on dietary

concerns, like healthy cooking.

As participants in the statewide Every Woman Counts program, the centers provide free mammograms to underserved women. One patient who had not been to the doctor in several years and who was struggling to feed herself and her children was diagnosed with breast cancer. Onsite patient advocates were able to connect her with the right services—not just health care but food and transportation—so she could focus on her health. She’s now in remission.

“Dental is now considered by the federal government to be part of primary health,” explains Stratton. On October 15, 2015, EDCHC opened their first dental office in Cameron Park. “We are seeing patients like crazy,” Stratton says. “There has been a pent-up need for dental services with our patient base.” Due to the long waitlist, a second dentist will soon be added to the staff. At that same center, hours are being expanded to accommodate urgent care, as skipping a visit to the emergency room for certain after-hours situations saves everyone money and time.

Diana Labelle-Kantola, outreach and communications director for EDCHC, often finds herself interacting with patients, looking for the one who might need extra help or to be referred to a patient advocate. “We take care of each other and our patients. There’s no time clock.

We put our hearts into it,” says LabelleKantola, who experienced the benefits of that mentality herself. Ten years ago, she was a single mother working for the center as a receptionist. When she asked for more flexible hours so she could attend night classes, everyone at EDCHC encouraged her to complete her bachelor’s degree, paving the way for her current role. “It’s not ran like a business. It’s ran like a family,” she says.

T

hey called it Gam Saan, or Golden Mountain. For the Chinese, and thousands of other immigrants who came during the Gold Rush, California held the promise of a better life.

Few Chinese found Golden Mountain, instead encountering hard work, low wages and racism. From the Foreign Miners Tax to the Chinese Exclusion Act, it became clear that the Chinese were not welcome.

At the peak, the Chinese made up between 20 and 50 percent of the population in many towns and cities. By the turn of the 20th century that number had dwindled significantly.

In the 1850s, the Chinese were well established in Fiddletown, which was part of El Dorado County until 1855. The Chew Kee Store’s two-foot-thick walls were built by firmly packing soil between wooden forms—a traditional Chinese building technique called rammedearth adobe. The store, located on Main Street, is now a museum and one of two rammed-earth structures still standing in Fiddletown.

The store was Yee Fung Cheung’s pharmacy and home. Cheung, whose descendants still reside in the Sacramento area, was an herbal doctor who served 24 styleedc.com - June 2016

Chinese communities in Fiddletown, Sacramento and Virginia City. His remedies contained combinations of herbs, roots, barks, gums, nuts and flowers imported from China that were brewed into a tea for consumption; small drawers marked with the names of herbs are still visible in the store.

Cheung hired an assistant, Chew Kee, who had a wife named Sigh Choy. When Cheung returned to China in 1884, Kee took over the store, adding general merchandise and groceries imported from China. The store also provided a gathering place for the Chinese community. Letters could be sent and received, as well as written and read for those who were illiterate. Lottery tickets and other games of chance were played, and opium was smoked.

Kee also built wooden additions— two kitchens, a living space and two bedrooms—at the store’s back.

The couple became the guardians of Fong Chow Yow, a boy born in Fiddletown in 1885 to Chinese parents who returned to China. Although they didn’t officially adopt him until 1902, he lived as their son and inherited the store when Kee

died in 1913.

Yow earned the nickname of Jimmy Chow while attending the all-white school in Fiddletown. When he started school, he wore the traditional Chinese ponytail called a queue. When the school required him to cut it, he kept it under his mattress for the rest of his life.

Chow lived in the store most of his life and did odd jobs around town. He was well-liked by the residents of Fiddletown, who replaced his roof in the 1950s when he was too crippled from arthritis to do it. He acted as a caretaker for the store and its contents—keeping everything intact. When he passed away in 1965, the extent of the collection was discovered when archeologists examined and inventoried the items. Chow was buried in the Fiddletown Cemetery, the only person of Chinese descent to be buried there.

After his death, ownership of the store bounced between the county, state and Fiddletown Preservation Society. In 1978, Fiddletown was designated as a historic district and the store recognized as a historically significant building. In 1980, Fiddletown’s Preservation Society began opening the store on weekends as a museum. A comprehensive restoration of the building began in 1987 with grant money from the State Parks and Recreation Department and the Office of Historic Preservation, and donations from Chinese organizations and Dr. Herbert Yee, a descendent of Cheung. The store is open on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m., April through October.

hether curating an outdoor kitchen or reconstructing a beautiful new deck, something about the warm weather makes the team here at Kerrie Kelly Design Lab want to blur the lines between the indoors and out with beautiful design and fashion-forward functionality. Living in Cali, it’s key to create an inviting, curated space for outdoor entertaining. Here are a few ways to add fashion-forward function to your backyard for the perfect outdoor sanctuary.

1 / GRAB A GRILL Whether you’re cooking up ribs for a family birthday party, or grilling lobster for two, a barbecue is the star of the outdoor kitchen. We love ones made of stainless steel, because they’re easy to clean and withstand the heat of the outdoors. Make sure to find a grill equipped with features that you know you’ll need—like plenty of space for multiple entrées or a griddle area for carefully cooking veggies or fish. Choose a few complementary appliances to go with it too, like a wine fridge or prep area.

2 / FABULOUS FABRICS Another key aspect of the perfect outdoor entertainment area is the fabric used on cushions and pillows. Fabrics like Sunbrella are durable, heat-resistant and easy to clean, making them the ideal finish for your favorite chaise or outdoor seating. 1 cup tamari 1/2 cup dry white wine 1 tbsp. grated ginger 1 tbsp. grated garlic 2 tsp. fines herbes (finely chopped parsley, chives, tarragon, and chervil), divided 2 tbsp. grapeseed oil 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 2 1/2 pounds), trimmed of excess fat, and sliced in half horizontally 1 large egg 1 medium shallot, roughly chopped 1 clove garlic 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard 2 tbsp. fresh lemon juice 1/2 tsp. maple syrup, grade B 2 tbsp. Champagne vinegar or white wine vinegar 1/4 cup roughly chopped chives 1 1/2 tbsp. toasted sesame oil 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil 2 1/2 cups thinly sliced sugar snap peas 2 1/2 cups finely shredded Napa cabbage 2 cups halved cherry tomatoes 1 1/2 cups thinly shaved watermelon radish or other radish 1/4 cup sesame seeds, toasted 1 lemon, cut into quarters Sea salt and freshly cracked black pepper, plus Maldon sea salt for finishing

In a medium bowl, whisk together the tamari, white wine, ginger, grated garlic, 1 teaspoon of the fines herbes, grapeseed oil, and black pepper. Add the chicken, turning several times to evenly coat it. Cover, and marinate in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours.

For the vinaigrette, cook the egg in boiling water for 7 minutes. Remove immediately, and rinse under cold water to stop the cooking. You should have a firm white and barely set yolk. Peel and place in a blender along with the shallot, garlic, mustard, lemon juice, maple syrup, and vinegar. Pulse to combine, scraping down the sides as you go. Add the chives, the remaining 1 teaspoon of fines herbes, salt, and pepper. With the motor running, stream in the toasted sesame oil and olive oil until emulsified. Next, preheat the grill to 450 degrees, or place an indoor grill pan or heavy-cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the chicken for about 2-3 minutes per side, until grill marks form and the internal temperature registers at least 165 degrees. If using a charcoal grill, create a two-zone fire, with all the coals on one side. Cook the chicken for about 2 minutes per side, then move it to the cool side of the grill, covered, to finish cooking through, if necessary.

Remove the chicken from the grill, and allow it to rest before slicing on the bias into bite-size pieces. The chicken can be made a day ahead and refrigerated overnight, if desired.

In a large serving bowl, toss the chicken, peas, cabbage, tomatoes, and radish with the desired amount of vinaigrette. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, Maldon sea salt, and black pepper.

Serve with lemon wedges on the side. Serves 4.

introducing Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

I’ve wanted to open a yoga and Pilates studio since I was 18. I loved attending classes at other studios, but could hardly find the time to fit it in; plus, all the studios were the opposite direction of where I spend my time (Coloma), so I mostly practiced at home.

I also hadn’t found a yoga instructor who resonated with me; I really preferred my own flow and style, and thought to myself, “maybe other people will enjoy my style, too.” I believe every teacher is an interpreter who speaks to us and brings something out in each of us. At 33 years old, I said, “If you want to do this, just do it.” Since opening, I’ve had a great response and so much support from the community. My goal has been to make the classes as accessible and affordable as possible, so that I can share my love and passion for fitness and self-care and really connect with others and inspire them. I’ve found in doing this that my clients have turned around and inspired me. I feel very honored to offer a space where we can gather and support one another in our journeys.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I open my space to other locals free of charge. One instructor teaches different styles of dance expression, another holds essential oil classes, and another holds drum circles. Every first Friday of the month, I offer a free yoga class at 6 p.m. with a vegan potluck afterwards.

It’s a fun way for people to connect with others in this community, and I’m so grateful to be a part of.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

Yoga. I also love to hike and run outdoors. I’ve always called nature “my gym,” especially in our area. There are so many wonderful trails to explore!

Describe your business. Did you find it, or did it find you?

The Shabby Rabbit is a special blend of old and new, shabby and cottage, and one-of-akind items. We feature lots of refinished furniture, small antiques, gifts, home furnishing and decorator items, greeting cards and jewelry.

How are you involved with both the community and your customer?

I’m currently a board member of the Placerville Downtown Association. My goal is to be very involved with the decisions that are made regarding all downtown businesses and how they affect our customers, since making decisions that put the customer first will benefit our business as well.

What life accomplishments are you most proud of?

I was widowed at a young age with three daughters under the age of six years old. I’m proud that I was able to be there for them while they grew up and that they all still like to spend time with me. They’re three of the most beautiful women I know.

Where do you go when the going gets tough?

I head to Tahoe for a couple of days. Being away clears my head and helps me to refocus. Even though I only go for a short while, I usually feel like I’ve been gone a week—it’s so relaxing.

What’s your biggest job perk?

I get to search for unique “wow” items for my customers. I always want them to have a sense of wonder and adventure when they come into my shop, and I want them to feel they are getting a great value at a reasonable price.

And finally, customer service is…?

What makes or breaks a business. I’ve been in retail off and on all of my life and am keenly aware that if you don’t provide excellent customer service and take care of your customers, they will go elsewhere. That’s why it’s my number one focus.

had a pretty awesome backyard growing up. It wasn’t huge; it didn’t have a pool. My mom had this ridiculous azalea bush that consumed baseballs and even more lawn with every passing season. My dad’s barbecue wasn’t gas; he used briquettes, and they only seemed to ignite once he started cussing at them. I learned to throw a ball in that backyard. If I needed space, I had a tree to climb. There was a gigantic, bustling ant hill back by my dad’s horseshoe pit, near the ruins of an old swingset that seemed just as rusty and dangerous when it was new. There was a hose to drink from when I got thirsty, a sprinkler to run through if it got hot and, despite my mom’s azaleas, plenty of lawn to

lay on—a lawn I eventually learned to mow while my dad supervised from the patio with a can of Oly in his hand and a Mariners game on a buzzy old portable radio.

The American backyard didn’t start off as a place for a kid to spend his idle hours or a retreat for busy parents. Originally, it was a space for practical things: growing food, hanging laundry, storing garbage, keeping animals and, of course, the outhouse had to go somewhere. When cars first came along, the garage was often located back there, too. Know why? Because of the notcompletely-unfounded fear that those newfangled combustion engines might explode. The backyard was, as one historian put it, “all business.”

That was the idyll, anyway. Some of it may have even been true. Or, at least, true enough that we’ve embraced the notion of the backyard as our personal refuge for over six decades now. In that time, simple grills have morphed into outdoor kitchens with pizza ovens; patios are now full-blown entertainment centers. You can have a pool that makes an alpine lake look like a mud puddle and there are sport courts that could host an NBA game. My own yard has no less than seven different kinds of fruit trees, a vegetable garden, a tool shed, a fire pit and a duck.

Yes, a duck. But that’s a different story.

My point is, while all that is well and good—hey, if you can watch first-run movies under the stars while munching on a flatbread pizza you just pulled from your wood-fired oven, why wouldn’t you?—the backyard doesn’t have to be

a theme park.

Because ultimately, a good backyard isn’t about “stuff.” It’s about a place for peace of mind. It’s for relaxing, whether that’s on canvas folding chairs from Sports Authority or teak recliners from Ikea. It’s for entertaining, whether at that old shed you’ve converted into a miniature Irish pub or on a patio slab with a few burgers grilling on a hibachi. For all its permutations, the backyard is still simply one of the best spots in the world to sip a cold one, read a book, daydream, teach a kid to throw, raise veggies, and let Mom’s azaleas get a little out of control.

And there is no better place for listening to ball games than on old buzzy radios.
