Welcome to the Spring edition of St Wilfrid’s News!

In this edition, you may notice that the newsletter has gone through a few changes.

In future, we’ll use our Spring edition to update you about all the ways you can get involved with St Wilfrid’s Hospice. This includes fundraising events, ways you can support our shops, and even how you can learn about end-of-life care in our Education Centre.

The Spring edition will be noticeably lighter, and if you are a regular reader, you will have noticed we haven’t included our stories from patients, supporters, and employees from across the Hospice. Instead, we hope to keep you updated through our Hospice emails, website, and social media.

We have made this decision to help manage the cost of producing our newsletter. We plan to communicate in a more cost-effective and sustainable way, by using digital and other tools.

We have also made the decision to no longer highlight our raffle tickets within this newsletter. As Hospices across the UK currently face a funding crisis, including the raffle in our newsletters was a significant cost that we felt could be withdrawn and better spent elsewhere. Please do not worry if you are a regular raffle player – we are looking at bringing the raffle back in a new, more cost-effective format, hopefully in early 2026.

I do hope you enjoy reading this new edition of St Wilfrid’s News, and I hope to see you at our various events across the year.

Did you know...

It costs over £9million per year to run St Wilfrid’s Hospice? That’s over £26,000 per day to care for patients both at the Hospice and out in the community.

At St Wilfrid’s Hospice, we care for over 325 people at any one time, in the local community and on the Hospice Ward? Did you know...

Your Impact

Thanks to your support, we are able to provide our vital care services to local people in your community.

Because of your donations, our services can continue to operate and we are proud that we now have over 176 five-star reviews on iWantGreatCare. It is because of you that we are able to offer these services, thank you.

I felt anxious about attending the Breathe Easy course and meeting others with different problems, as l was very low. The course, the staff, and the others were so supportive as they understood, thank you.

Living Well Patient

The staff and volunteers were simply amazing in the care and support they gave me and my lovely wife Helen leading up to her passing. In my opinion, Heaven must be missing a lot of angels as they are caring for people in St Wilfrid’s.

Not knowing how to help my uncle with his illness, I was so glad of the support, comfort, and the courage that you all gave to me. I would have floundered otherwise. For all of this I thank you all so very much.

What’s coming up in Fundraising in 2025?

It’s because of wonderful people like you who get involved in our fundraising events that we are able to run our vital hospice care services 365 days a year - care that now costs over £26,000 per day.

In fact, in 2023-2024 our fabulous fundraisers raised over £1,916,816 for St Wilfrid’s! This incredible amount of money could help fund our Hospice Ward for over six months.

If you’re looking for a way to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice in 2025, we have a large number of events you can attend, and even more ways to get involved at any time of the year, as and when you have time.

Thank you so much for everything you do to help us raise the much-needed funds to provide expert end-of-life care to our local community.
