Letter from the President Reach out to Jenna at jfoo@stuy.edu Hi guys! I hope that everyone’s having a great break and enjoying some well-deserved time off from school. In the future, a lot of exciting things will be happening in Key Club! First, we’ll be sending out a form for ordering our club T-shirts very soon, so get hyped to see everyone wearing the new merch in the hallways. Remember that if you have paid your dues, you automatically get a free shirt! Towards the end of January and the beginning of February, we will also start gearing up for club elections. If you’re interested in running for president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, webmaster, or editor, feel free to reach out to us if you’re looking for more information or have any questions. Taking on a higher leadership position in Key Club is an invaluable experience and getting more involved in Key Club was probably the best decision I made in high school. Finaaally, LTC, or our annual Leadership Training Conference in Albany, is coming up in less than 14 weeks! We’ll be sending a form to gauge interest for LTC, so also be on the lookout for that. Merry Christmas guys! I can’t wait to see what we’ll do in the new year

Letter from the Vice Prez Reach out to Penny at pwang00@stuy.edu I hope you guys are as excited for winter break as I am! Before we head off to vacation, new committees are being I finalized and I hope that our new members will learn to be more dedicated and enjoy their jobs more. Committees have always been very experimental, but this time I really want to get it down. If you're in a committee, I hope you get to enjoy it. If you're not in a committee, it's always nice to be in one! Even if members are not in a committee, they can still participate in Key Club and have an active role, such as by sending in pictures and videos and attending events and fundraisers! Thanks so much and I hope school goes well before break.

Letter from the Secretary Reach out to Jason at jxiong10@stuy.edu Hey guys! I hope second marking period report cards are treating you guys well. I know that there hasn't been a lot of events for the month of November and early December and I apologize for that. Despite having only having some events, I am extremely happy to see the amount of participation in Key Club Week. It wasn't the best planned week but we will do our best to make this special week better next year. I am also surprised and thrilled to see new faces at Fall Rally. Whether it was your first Fall Rally or your last one, I hope y'all enjoyed it. If you didn't get to go, there's always next year. December is not too stocked with events but I still hope you guys take some time to volunteer whenever you have the chance. Even if there isn't an event, there are still lots of ways to give back to and help others during the holiday season. As always, if there are any issues with service hours, feel free to email us at stuyvesantkeyclub@gmail.com or PM me. I hope to see you guys soon!

Reach out to Tiffany Zhong: tiffany.zhong123@gmail.com What's up guys! I hope you all are enjoying your well deserved winter break. I just want to give a big thank you to everyone who took the time out of their busy schedule to attend the movie fundraiser and meeting to make cards. I'm excited for what's in store for the new year as I hope we'll come back better and stronger. Have a great holiday !!

Letter from the Treasurer Reach out to Freya at fzhu10@stuy.edu

Hey Guys, It's finally break! Woooooo! We made it through this stressful month! This month has also been a busy month filled with fundraisers and whatnot and I'm here to report to you our numbers! I finished paying for all the members that gave us the money so you guys will be getting your IDs, pins, and t-shirts soon! From the end of October to December, all of you guys have been hard at work collecting change and money in UNICEF! I am so proud of each and every one of you guys even if you only collected like 10 cents! In the end, we raised a grand total of $616.09 for UNICEF! WOOO! Though I'm sure all of you guys worked hard, we would like to give a special shoutout to Sammi Chen who went above and beyond and raised $165. On December 16th, we held a Spider-Man Movie fundraiser at Alpines and we raised $257 for the Thirst Project. The profit might not be as much as previous fundraisers but we were able to provide popcorn and drinks and I'm sure everyone had fun and enjoyed the movie! That's about it for now but if any of you guys are interested in Fundraising Committee or running for Treasurer for the next service year, be sure to hit me up! I'm not that scary I swear :)

Letter from the Editor Reach out to Rachel at rjoh10@stuy.edu Hey All, Your director has been promoted :0 I hope you all are enjoying the break (enjoy it while you can). As always, I'll like to thank everyone who sent in pictures/articles, the locksmith committee, and JASON XIONG. He's the best Secretary you can ever ask for. Don't forget to go to events! I hope to see you guys around!

Dear Ashley, Thank you for motivating me to join as many events as possible. Your dedication to Key Club always inspires me to be as passionate as you are. I’m so grateful for you pushing me to go to events that are out of my comfort zone, I always end up having a great time. You make volunteering super fun and I love going to key club events because of you. Thank you so much, I can’t wait for the next event :) ! -Sabrina Chen

Here's a thanks to Jason Xiong!! Such a dedicated and hard worker: Jasonnn. By all means, without fail, absolutely, 1042.763%, THE best squid, KC secretary, and poster designer out there. -Susan Zheng (Kudos to locksmith too!)

To Jason Xiong: OMG JASONNNN. Where do I even start? Since I met you at Epic Ride, I just sensed something was gonna be entirely different about our friendship. I remember how friendly and open you were at my first ever KC event, and how immensely comfortable I felt around everyone from KC. I remember constantly texting you about cancelling events last minute, asking about the different aspects of Key Club, somehow knowing your birthday even though you never told me it ;), and just a whole bunch of stuff. I remember how easy it was - and still is - to be myself around you and to not have to cover up the crazy and extremely weird sides of me. Thank you for just being an overall amazing friend and Key Club secretary. I constantly see you juggling 70 things at once, and it always amazes me. I could probably go on for an eternity about this, but I love you, and thank you for just everything. And remember, my fellow squid, SLEEP EARLY!

To Susan Zheng: Bananas. Can I just leave it at that lol. My fellow best friend, I'm gonna keep this real short and simple lol (I'll save the essays and everything for your next birthday, don't worry). You've done so much for me that I can't tell where to start now. I guess I'll just focus on the KC aspect of our friendship. First of all, thank you for introducing me to Key Club! I still remember how you sent this text to me on Messenger, and was like "Key Club", and I was like "whomst". Without you, I don't think I would not have learned about Key Club until much later. You've been beside me through most of the events I've gone to and just a whole bunch of things in general. I love you and here's to hopefully more KC events within the next 4 years (despite both of our busy schedules). To Freya Zhu: Freyaaa, thank you for always being such a hardworking and dedicated treasurer. I'm always looking up to you as a model for the amount of effort and time you pour into Key Club. Alongside Jason and Aaron, you are one of the most dedicated KC members I've ever met. I would open up the KC Hours spreadsheet on a random day and see that your hours are like 4 times everyone else's lol, or I check the emails for the confirmation emails and your name would be there like more than half the time. Please keep being as inspiring as you are now and don't die from all the stress of Stuyyyy. I love seeing you in the hallways and at eventsss. To Kelly Guo: KELLYYYY. Has it only been a couple of months since we first met at Epic Ride? (omg, I met so many amazing people at my first every event) From the first time I met you, I can already tell what kind of person you are. Everything, from your positivity to your cheerfulness to your outgoingness to your enthusiasm just shone through from your words and actions. You left such a lasting impression on me and it's still constantly lingering with me. I have not enough words to describe both your physical and inner beauty. Here's to hopefully hanging out more in the future. And to end off, I just want to say PEPPA PIG CAN'T WHISTLE. â?¤ From Leo Lin

YOUTH FARM

By Yoshiaki Kato The Youth Farm volunteering experience this year was a collaborative one. I met many people from Stuyvesant that I would have never met before. The Youth Farm adults were very pleased to see us, and we were very satisfied with our hard work at the end of the day. I saw people of all races, cultures, and age all work together to get that farm cleaned up. We were assigned to rake leaves, sort out the compost, or to pick out any weeds. The compost group was full with adult volunteers. A man in the center of the conversation told stories and cracked jokes; the whole group seemed tobe enjoying themselves. The weeding group was full with women of all ages. I did not have the pleasure to talk to them for they were on the outer-area and we rakers were in the inner-are of the farm. I am sure they had as much fun as we did. I was in the raking group with a variety of people all cooperating, trying to find a method of work that was most efficient to gather, pack, and carry the fallen leaves. Another memory I had was when all of us were at the far-end of the farm because we were mostly finished with the entrance. The far-end had many trees with, undesirably scented fruits. Despite shouting out how badly it smelled, we still worked hard. I felt very accomplished when the ground turned into a beautiful green plane when before it was but a mush of dirty leaves and branches. I had a wonderful experience at the Youth Farm; I hope that everyone else did as well, and I'm looking forward to meeting these colleagues again to raking our hearts away.

Turkey Trot! By Sabrina Chen Upon arriving the Turkey Trot Event at Roosevelt Island, my friend Ashley and I received volunteer vests. After ten minutes, the staff seperated us into stations along the island to tell runners to stay on their left. It was very cold, so suring the next two hours. I alternated between telling people to stay on their left and turning to my friend to complain about the bitter cold. To my surprise, a couple runners actually thanked us for volunteering. Some runners wore costumes to match the event. After the race, we all walked back to the start and were welcomed with food; they handed out very sweet cinnamon buns. This event was quite interesting. This event was not my favorite because of this unbearable cold, but I still had a good time with my friend and cheering on runners.

IT'S MY PARK AT CORLEARS HOOK PARK

By Charlotte Kastoun As I biked along the FDR drive, I wondered what I was even doing, going to an event on my birthday. When people had asked me what my plans were for today and I told them that I was volunteering, they said that I was crazy. Maybe they were right. Before I knew it, I was at the park. I got my gloves and signed in with the project captain, and soon I had joined my friends in raking leaves. The park was covered in a thick layer of red, orange, and brown leaves. Bare trees loomed high above us. It seemed that not an inch of the park was uncovered. It was a beautiful sight. But I could not help thinking that it would take us hours to finish raking all the leaves. The park was enormous! We raked leaves for two hours. There was such an abundance of them that after merely ten minutes a giant pile had accumulated! At that point, we picked up the leaves and put them in big paper bags to be composted. Then, we’d move on to a new section of the park. At the end of the event, one of my friends remembered that it was my birthday, and wished me happy birthday. In all the time that I had been volunteering, I had almost forgotten that my birthday was today! But I didn’t regret coming to the event. In fact, it was really fulfilling, knowing that I was doing something to help the community instead of sitting at home and watching Netflix. I was glad that I had chosen to spend my birthday doing something to help others.

Member of the Month

Pamela Yang Hi everyone!!! I'm Pamela, and I only started Key Club a couple months ago, and it has already made such a huge impact on my life. Originally, I joined because so many of my friends encouraged me to join, so I thought "Hey, it'll just be like hanging out." But after so many events, I realized that it was so much more than that. At one of my favorite events: BT5K, I was assigned to be the one mile marker for the runners and the walkers. I got balloons, and granola bars, a t-shirt, and got to hold the really heavy one mile sign. Then, as the run began, so many runners sped down the road, yet stopped to give me a high five. There was one person in particular that I remember. She was an elderly walker, and from overhearing her talking, she was a walker that didn't believe she would be able to walk so far. Yet, as she reached the sign, the joy on her face was apparent. She actually decided to pose for a picture, and even told me to be in it. From then, I knew, Key Club is about helping in any way that we can. Key Club has had such a positive influence on my life. It brought me closer to people I already knew like Freya and Jason and David, while introducing me to so many new people like Jenna and Jackson and Vincent. All in all, I love Key Club. It's fun, it's helpful, it's amazing.
